This cottage is hands-down the best value to be found on the canal in South Bethany this summer season. We took it off the market for a while to make some improvements and got a little bit carried away! Now it's back, better than ever and still 3 minutes to the beach. The house has a sunny new enclosed front porch with lots of windows, TV/cable, and overflow sleeping space. The dining room off the kitchen and living room also is new, and features a triple mulled window overlooking the canal out back. The home's three bedroom have new furnishings and beds (two Queens and one trundle, plus a futon in the family room). The kitchen area has a nearly new refrigerator, gas stove, and excessive utensils and cookware supplied by my compulsive cook of a wife. The deck off the kitchen still has a beautiful view of the canal looking west at sunset, and features a gas grill and new lighting. The home has internet/cable connection and two television sets with DVD/VCR players. There is no land-line telephone service, so bring your cell phones.
South Bethany, along with Bethany Beach just to the north and Fenwick Island just to the south, is centrally located along the Delaware-Maryland Atlantic seaboard. These three beaches bill themselves as Delaware’s “Quiet Resorts.” They are famously “family-friendly,” boasting clean, uncrowded, life-guarded beaches. Your family will enjoy strolling on the Bethany Beach boardwalk and taking in the free, live entertainment that is provided there from time to time.
Fenwick Island has a water park, miniature golf courses, and movie theatres to check out. From our house you also are close to Ocean City, MD with its large boardwalk and amusement park; Dewey Beach, and TAX-FREE shopping in Rehoboth, not to mention the latter's own boardwalk, nightlife and unique shops. If you like, you can even catch the ferry over to Atlantic City, New Jersey from Lewes, and try your hand at some gambling. (We were no good at this.)
If you can’t make it in the summertime, come and stay in the fall. Delaware’s beaches in September are not to be beat. The weather is fabulous, the water is warm, and there are no crowds in sight! You must experience the Independent Film Festival, Autumn Jazz Festival, Sea Witch Festival, Festival of Lights, and last but not least, the Apple Scrapple Festival in October! (Hope you like pork.) Any time of year you choose to come here, we think you will have fun.

I'm just back from my week at this fabulous summer cottage and I can't say enough great things about the home, location and neighborhood. Don't let the pictures fool you! This home is very roomy and comfortable. Photos can't convey the great floorplan and use of space. The house is clean and well-maintained with a wonderful back deck overlooking the canal. The neighborhood is quiet and friendly. I never felt the need to lock up my bike. To top it off, the house is a quick walk to a quiet, clean, uncrowded beach and an easy bike ride to food and groceries. South Bethany is a great location and an easy commute to Assateague, Ocean City and Rehoboth. What more could you ask for? I'm looking forward to returning again next summer!
