Located 800 feet above the Pacific Ocean on a private estate, the Villa Mariposa (the Butterfly House) is 30 minutes south of Dominical on the picturesque Costanera highway and 1 km north of the village of Ojochal and all the amenities. You will enjoy gorgeous views of the Pacific Ocean, the coastline up to Uvita, the Whales Tail and surrounding mountains covered in lush tropical rainforest.

Beautifully designed and crafted, this brand new 2,500 square foot, villa offers 3 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms with office (or 4th bedroom) and includes covered walkways and a large terrace for outdoor living and dining. Located on a private estate with gated entrance, this villa, is minutes from Playa Ventanas, an unspoiled sandy beach with palm trees on a lovely secluded bay surrounded by rocky cliffs and natural caverns with tunnels that you can walk through at low tide to the next beach.
This enchanting home is designed for privacy with a central living/dining area and bedrooms set off to either side. It’s ideal for two couples or families, with the master bedroom at one end of the house and an equally large bedroom at the other end. Both main bedrooms have their own double French doors opening to the terrace and pool. You will luxuriate waking up to a tranquil ocean view and enjoy completing the day with watching a romantic sunset, dining alfresco and experiencing extraordinary stargazing.
The master bedroom features a gorgeous view of the pool and ocean through double French doors as well as an Ensuite bathroom with oversized shower, a luxurious Queen-size bed and a walk-in closet.
Most of the rooms open to the terrace and have spectacular views of the jungle and the ocean through double French doors. Top of the line ceiling fans are located throughout the villa including the terrace. The house has teak-beamed cathedral ceilings and custom hand-made cedar doors and cabinets. The large gourmet kitchen with granite counter tops and stainless steel appliances opens up to the spacious outdoor dining and BBQ area. For your added comfort, the rental of the villa also includes midweek maid service.
As beautiful as this house is inside you will be drawn to the large covered terrace outside, which is well designed for outdoor living with both the living and dining area overlooking the saltwater pool which will invite you in and will bring you closer to the feeling of the ocean which you see beyond the pool. With the natural cooling Pacific breezes blowing all day long, you will be comfortable lounging on the terrace while watching the ocean, the jungle, the monkeys and other wildlife or enjoying a meal with friends or a romantic dinner.
The landscapes here in South Costa Rica are dramatic—jungle covered mountains meet the ocean and rise up sharply from pristine sandy beaches with panoramic ocean views and lush tropical rainforest. There are many ways to enjoy your days: strolling the nearby beautiful pristine Ventanas beach, one of the most beautiful of many beaches in the area, exploring the ocean caves, lounging by the pool, watching jungle life from the terrace, horseback riding and swimming in the natural pool at the bottom of waterfalls, zip-lining through the jungle canopy, ATVing, kayaking, whale watching and taking eco-tours through the area’s incredibly lush tropical jungle.
Adventure treks and tours to Cano Island offering sport fishing and the best scuba diving and snorkeling in Costa Rica can also be arranged by our English-speaking property manager, who has an office in Uvita. She is available to assist you with arrival and departure and booking activates.
Along with easy access to spectacular beaches, you will be close to the wonderfully unique village of Ojochal, which has captured the hearts of many world travellers. Canadian, American and European expatriates have joined with the local villagers ("ticos") in creating a cooperative, culturally-rich neighborhood that values self-reliance and community spirit among friends and neighbors. As a result, this remarkable village of Ojochal is renowned in Costa Rica for its high level of international cuisine and world class dining experiences.
The Villa Mariposa is between 4 to 4 1/2 hours south of San Jose by car or private VIP shuttle and the drive will soon be cut to less than 3 hours once the new highway is completed by the end of 2009. Another option is a 30 minute scenic flight to Palmar Sur airstrip. From there you can arrange to have a 4x4 rental waiting for you and then drive the 20 minutes to Villa Mariposa.
A 50% Deposit fee is due upon confirmation of reservation and a 50% Final deposit is due 30 days prior to arrival. $300 US security deposit fee payable with final payment and refundable by check following check-out if no damages.

We love our ocean view of Ventanas beach and body surfing in the ocean there. It’s one of the most spectacular and pristine beaches in Costa Rica. We adore great food and it’s wonderful to be living minutes away from Ojochal, which is becoming the culinary center of Costa Rica, and dining out at 5 star restaurants in the jungle.
Playa Ventanas is ideal for swimming and body surfing. This unspoiled sandy beach with palm trees on a lovely secluded bay is surrounded by rocky cliffs and natural caves to the ocean to explore
A long sandy beach with a small reef off the coast makes for very little wave action, creating an ideal beach for swimming or ocean kayaking.
A good place to spot whales near the off shore Isle Ballena which means The Island of Whales. At low tide the sandbar becomes visible and looks like a whale's tail. You can see it from Villa Mariposa
