Owner's Profile

Owner Description

Year Purchased: 2003

Marlene grew up in the Flathead Valley where she spent summers visiting the many surrounding lakes. Tom grew up in the Tacoma area of Washington state, they met while working in Fairbanks, Alaska in the late 70's. A move back to the valley had Tom exploring the area. He was first to see Spoon Lake on an ice fishing trip. The following summer he showed Marlene this perfect hide a way lake to which they both fell in love with. A home was built, with an apartment on the bottom ground level to share our little corner of paradise with old and new friends.

Why the Owner Chose Columbia Falls

It's a feeling more than anything, living here, calm, quiet, relaxing. From the sun shiniest days to the misty cool days, each one brings something new, whether an Eagle diving for fish, loon parents teaching their young to fly, dew drops on a spider's web or deer eating the tops off of my tulips.

12-17 September, 09 This "cabin" is beautiful. Tom did a great job building this beautiful haven for us to enjoy. We went to Glacier Nt'l Park every day and only takes 30 min to get there. We saw mtn goats that walked right by us. Saw moose w/baby. Grizzleys at a far far distance. Had great hikes, "Hidden Lake", "St. Mary's Fall", "Many Glacier", were all spectacular in different ways. We went fishing on Spoon Lake, only caught small perch but managed a small appetizer worth. Heard moose or elk calling at Spoon Lake, but never saw any. All arouond this was a great trip we are glad we did. Oh, yeah, we were blessed with great weather until the day we were leaving. Then we were blessed with a tiny rain shower that netted a double rainbow over Spoon Lake. We'll send pictures for your web site. Marlene's comment. Thank you for the double rainbow picture.

17-20 Sept, 09 Dear Marlene, We stayed at 2 different places on the other side of Glacier, but this place is the nicest. It feels like the highlight of our stays here. Today we watched a duck on Spoon Lake dive under water and surface with a floppy fish. Eventually, she got it turned arouond and swallowed it whole. She repeated the act with another fish. They were bigger fish than the perch we caught yesterday-now you know where the big ones are going! Inside Glacier we saw a momma bear and three cubs, watching them traverse the mountainside while at Two Medicine Lake. At Waterton we took the boat to Goat Haunt and hiked to Kootenai Lake. Saw a bull moose and 2 cows grazing in the lake. Scenery and weather was awesome the entire trip. Thanks so much for sharing your fabulous place with us! Jim and Bev

August 4-10, 2009 Thank you, it was great. Your baby robins are gone, don't know why. I didn't think they were ready to fly. Thanks

06-10 September, 09 07 Sept, 09 Dear Marlene, Today we've enjoyed the unfamiliar sounds of nothingness and occasional sounds of owls and wolves as we sat by the dock. We can't remember the last time we heard nothing. Fantastic! Also, around 7 p.m. a small brown bear strolled by the porch. We ran outside to take a picture but unfortunately he scampered away before we could get a shot. Having a great vacation so far! 09 Sept, 09 Iceberg Lake at Glacier is a must see! We didn't run into any grizzlies on the hike but saw several mtn goats and one black bear. Also, free roaming cows are all over the roads on the east side of the park. Drive Safe! 10 Sept, 09 Marlene, We have had such a relaxing time at Spoon Lake. Pending no deployment, we will be back next year! Dan and Courtnee
