William Blake wrote that, "great things are done when men and mountains meet"—a hopeful expectation that awaits guests of this peaceful and inviting Fairplay cabin.
Quietly tucked away on five acres of tall pine near Pike National Forest, the cabin offers a peaceful retreat. We have lovingly restored the 1000 square feet, 2-bedroom, 1.5 bath cabin into a simple and warm home away from home. The space lacks for nothing with a modern, well-appointed kitchen, lots of natural light, and comfortable beds with linens chosen for comfort. Both bedrooms have wonderful natural light. Bedroom #1 opens onto a balcony and Bedroom #2 boasts an enormous skylight. The family space is designed to create cozy seating to enjoy an evening together of games, reading or discussion and an open living room complete with wood stove and the faint scent of pine.
The cabin is delightfully comfortable, steeped in quiet tranquility, and yet close enough to the towns of Alma (5 miles) and Fairplay (2.5 miles) for that last minute item, shopping or a night out. You'll enjoy exploring both of these funky mountain towns. Walking distance to fishing on the Platte. A few of our favorite spots include the Alma Saloon and the bowling alley in Fairplay where you'll surprisingly taste some great food! Breckenridge is only 21 miles away and Buena Vista only 35 miles.
South central Colorado is home to some of the best nature has to offer, with ample hiking, fly fishing, mountain biking, wildlife and wildflowers. The stars on a clear night are not to be missed. The property sits near an open valley with spectacular views of the Mosquito Range Mountains. It is a perfect spot for your mountain getaway with plenty of private space, quiet, sunny mornings and proximity to all that Park, Summit and Chaffee Counties have to offer to the outdoor adventurer. From festivals, white water rafting, gold water fly fishing, hiking galore, wildflower and bird viewing in the summer to cross-country skiing, mountaineering, sledding, and hot chocolate sipping in the winter we know you will leave having had great experiences and with magnificent memories. If you happen to want a tranquil retreat alone, this is also an ideal setting.
World famous Breckenridge is a short drive away—close enough to take advantage all of what it has to offer but far enough to avoid the congestion of Summit County. Buena Vista and the Arkansas River provide exciting white water rafting and waters full of fish waiting for your fly to float by. This is an ideal location to set out on an adventure, or to sit on the balcony with a cup of hot tea, and a good book in company of hummingbirds. Whatever memories you hope to create, we know you will find this beautiful cabin the perfect setting for your next mountain vacation.

A refuge close to Denver and other attractions without having to fight the I-70 traffic. Peace, tranquility, beauty, great proximity to the outdoor activities that we love.
The Unique Benefits of this Cabin
Quiet, walks to the river, the stars, the quiet and comfort. Great location--to hike the 14ers from Kite Lake above Alma, to visit the local Fairplay shops and enjoy the many weekend festivals, to venture down to Buena Vista to fish or go white water rafting on the Arkansas, or visit the art galleries in Salida. This darling cabin has everything you need without any waste or clutter. Clean, cozy, and comfortable nestled in the pines. A short five-minute stroll brings you into a breathtaking valley surrounded by majestic mountains and the Platte River curling at your feet. I was stunned at the beauty!

From the moment we arrived, the six of us women were thrilled with this picturesque mountain cabin for our annual retreat. We are friends from college days, now in our late 50s, and we live in various cities across the US. This rustic cabin with full amenities had room for us to gather in the living room near the cozy fire to catch up on the joys and struggles of the year. We all slept in warmth and comfort upstairs where the sloping A-frame bedrooms were charming. The contemporary kitchen, with the unique concrete countertops, was well laid out and spacious. All the cookware and dishes we needed were easy to find and visually appealing. We found a large selection of board games and had a riotous evening laughing and playing games. There are well-maintained hiking trails with beautiful lookout points a short drive from the cabin. And oh! the thrift store in Fairplay, be sure to plan a stop there! I can't imagine a more wonderful place to get away and re-connect with friends (or a spouse, for that matter!). I recommend it most highly.

Once a year I spend a very fun weekend with five girlfriends. We are from all over the country and decided this time to gather in CO. Our cabin in the woods was perfect. We spent most of our time in our cozy clothes gathered in the living room, catching up with each other and laughing....without disturbing anyone or being disturbed. We love to cook and the kitchen was modern and well equipped. We ventured out for a very easy hike and the reward was an amazing and gorgeous panoramic view. Our goal is to get away from the busyness and distractions. No problem there....although we did have a short snow flurry that was a positive distraction for the three of us from CA! The wood burning stove provides plenty of heat upstairs and down. Beds were very comfortable. A wonderful time together.

So. Your nerves are frayed. You're overwhelmed with people and demands and noises. If you have another day to grind through your rushed or monotonous routine, you might implode. OK. Time to get away to Fairplay! The ease in getting to this cabin will relax. The logs already split, stacked and ready to load into the wood stove will warm and rejuvenate. The clean atmosphere means you don't have to life a finger to scrub before you settle in. The close grocery will equip you with enough foods to let you mesh into the fully appointed kitchen, where you now have time to cook how much or how little you desire. Quiet? You better believe it! And beauty to heal your soul. And tons of stars that you haven't seen before because they were always dimmed by city lights. Haven't played games with family or friends that much because TV always takes president? NO problem there! No TV means snuggling in the cozy sofas & chairs and laugh and squirm and squeal with your kids and loved ones and best friends with the greatest board games. Want a tad of exercise? Hike in the wilderness to your heart's content. Just want to veg and read those books you haven't gotten to? Do it here!! Just want to sleep in? Can't find better soothing comfort in the beds and comforters that float down on you in a cocoon of warmth. I did it all here and definitely want to come back! The owners almost considered not renting at one point. Gosh. *SO* glad they did. And all very affordable. Go for it! So you can go back into your world and routine a little more rested. A little more clear in your mind. A little more equipped to face the odds. A little more peace in your soul.

My Girlfriend and I had a great time on Labor Day Weekend. The cabin was a good balance of rustic charm and modern amenities and style. The kitchen was GREAT! We had a wonderful time preparing meals and stoking the fire on the wood burning stove. The beds were very comfortable and the bathroom was nicely done with a good size shower. It was also the little extras that made it nice as well. A good book collection, a nice sound system to connect to your ipod and all things you need for meal preparation at your finger tips. It was like its a good friend's house and they let you stay for the Weekend! The location was convenient to a lot of good outdoor fun with Breck just a short drive away and plenty of other great places to get lost and explore. Paul was great to deal with and very accommodating. Would I stay her again? You bet ya! In a minute! Glad I found it and hope to visit again. If you want a good priced, well appointed, place to get-a-way, the name says it all; "Peceful, Exremely Cozy Cabin. But not just for families, we were a couple and loved it!

This cabin is just ideal. As the other reviewer said, it's bright, clean and has absolutely everything you could need. In my experience, sometimes vacation rentals go overboard in trying to create a feel (mountain kitch, for instance. how many moose and rough hewn pine wood do you need in a small space?); this place is simple, tasteful, and sparse in a way that allows you to feel instantly at home. It invites conversation, intimacy, and has a totally serene atmosphere. You can tell the owners really take pride in the space they created. I just has that sense of being a very well-loved spot. Accessibility is great, as is the surrounding opportunity for adventure. My husband and I love it here, and will certainly be back soon!

Not only is this a friendly and well- equipped cabin, but it is located in an awesome setting, and gives access to many different kinds of activities--hiking, jeeping, exploring are ones I enjoyed. We've stayed there on several occasions and have never been disappointed. In the summer of 2006 I enjoyed some great fly-fishing outings. A number of streams of great quality are nearby, and the local fishing shop is very helpful. Highly recommended.

Our family was vacationing in colorado this summer and stayed at this cozy & intimate cabin for three days with our two young children. We found this woodsy cottage clean, bright, & perfect for our needs & especially got plenty of rest on the super comfortable beds. We had fun exploring the woods around the cabin and on nearby trails. To top it off - the scenery was refreshing and pristine! We have friends in Breckenridge & were pleasantly surprised to find that the drive was not only beautiful, but quick. A return visit is a must in the winter as we will take advantage of this perfect location for skiing! The cabin and quaint town is a great place for a family or friends to spend some quality time together, being in nature and enjoying each other. We will DEFINITELY come back for another stay, maybe next time for a week!

I have stayed here several times, and enjoyed each visit more than the last. I love the summer hikes and wildflower walks. Winter 2008 was memorable--deep snow, wonderful snowshoeing and cross-country skiing! and a warm cozy house for our group in the evenings. PGK
