Our "Grandma's" house has been in our family for almost 80 years, built in the late 1800s. The house has two fireplaces and a piano, and huge bathroom with original clawfoot tub to relax in. The house is a wonderful Queen Anne Victorian, two story on large corner lot with mature trees and great location. There is a picnic table in the back for outside dining.
Directly across the street is a wonderful park for the family. The house is one block from the river and river walk, and very close to Gold Medal waters for the flyfisherman/woman. We have an annual motorcycle rally on Labor Day weekend, and the famed Iron Horse Bicycle Race (in which you can race the train to Silverton, 50 miles away) on Memorial Weekends. The ski area is 20 miles away, Mesa Verde National Park is 40 miles. You can easily walk to town
to take advantage of our shopping and great restaurants.
We have prime hunting, hiking, jeeping, camping, and kayaking in our area. Hike the fourteeners, or just take in the beautiful mountain scenery.
Just bring your family, friends, clothes, and toothbrush! You will love Grandma's House as much as we do and we hope the memories you make will be as wonderful as ours. Please call or email for additional pic

Owner's Profile
Owner Description
Year Purchased: 2002
I inherited this home from my mother, who was raised in the house. It is full of great memories, both of my parents and my grandparents. We spent vacation times here while my dad was in the navy, and when they retired, here is where they returned. My husband and I enjoy sharing "Grandma's House" with guests wanting to visit Durango. We intend to live there in the future, but our business dictates we live out in the country for a few more years.
Why the Owner Chose Private Homes
We inherited Grandma's House in Durango, Colorado, from my mother, who was raised in this house. It's in a perfect location, close to downtown, but away from the traffic and hustle bustle of town. We love the idea that it has been in my family for almost 80 years, and we intend to keep it for far longer.
The Unique Benefits of this House
Grandma's House is the perfect place for family reunions, a place for families to stay while attending weddings, graduations or just a great vacation. It provides a "home away from home" for families who want to vacation together and don't want to stay in multiple hotel rooms. Here you can fix your meals to share, barbecue or have picnics in the backyard, or go to dinner down town. We have a park across the street, easy access about a block and a half away from a walking/biking riverside path that winds its way through town and beyond. You can visit the fish hatchery and feed the fish, or go fishing in the river. In the summer you can go tubing or rafting down the river, or go hiking or mountain biking. We are close to Mesa Verde National Park, where you can visit the cliff dwellings. We are 20 minutes away from Purgatory (now called Durango Mountain Resort) where you can ski in the winter, or ride the chair lift up and take the Alpine Slide down in the summer. They also have many activities there for children. We have a Narrown Gauge Train, which will take you to Silverton, an old mining town 50 miles north. From the train, you will see beautiful scenery you can't see from a car. We have the Iron Horse Race, where you can race the train to Silverton on your bicycle. Over Labor Day weekend we have a motorcycle rally during which you can ride all over the mountains, taking in the beauty. You can attend our annual Fiesta, including a parade, and rodeos and a multitude of other activities. Grandma's House is a destination for families and friends to enjoy what Colorado has to offer. You will have many memories to take home with you and return again and again!

We have visited Durango many times, but this time was particularly special to us because our daughter was getting married. Grandma's House made it an exceptional trip! We felt at home the minute we walked in. It is a beautiful setting for pictures of the bride and bridal party. The owner was wonderful to work with and makes you feel welcome and like family. Highly recommend this home if you have small children. Our grandson loved having the park across the street and the runners in the family loved being to close to the Animas River. Thank you, Lauri, for helping to make this trip so memorable!
Owner response:When families come to Grandma's House to share those special times, whatever they may be, it is a good feeling to share the home in which we, too, have many warm memories. It feels like "family's coming home", so we look forward to your coming home again and again! Laurie

Grandma’s House is the near perfect house rental for families. We used the house as a “base camp” for our kids, their kids and extended family who, like us, traveled to Durango to attend our daughter’s wedding. Its chief qualities include: * Location: The House is one only short block from 18th and Main, an easy walk to downtown and an even shorter walk to the Animas River and adjacent bike bath. Our kids and their kids tubed almost daily from 32d Street to 18th Street. A small park across the street is ideal for little ones. * Generously Equipped. From a waffle iron to a baby stroller to games and toys for the little ones. The shed included grills, tubes and bikes. * Great Backyard. The adults lived in the backyard to enjoy the shade and the cool summer breeze. We hosted a dinner party for 50-55 people, demonstrating the ample size of the yard. * Character. The pictures and furniture confirm this is truly a grandma’s house, and the upstairs bathroom is a classic. The house reminded me of my grandma’s house where my siblings, cousins and I played as kids. The kitchen is small (as is typical of houses of this period), there is no dishwasher, and our bed was softer than we prefer. But these points posed no real problems and did not affect the extremely good time had by all over the week.Grandma’s House certainly must be the best rental for families in the Durango area. There was consensus among our family that on a scale of 10, we would rate Grandma’s House as a 9.5.Jeff BorkSummit County, Colorado

Had the most perfectly wonderful Christmas, with 20 or so cousins. We shopped in town, went on a sleigh ride, dinner in Pagosa Springs. We spent alot of quality ttime in and around Grandma's House and fabulous Durango. We enjoyed the wonderful homey atmosphere to come home to after shopping with "the girls". "All in all, the house was perfect for what we needed and all that we were expecting and a WHOLE lot more!"

We came for a family vacation. We went to Mesa Verde, rode the train, enjoyed the La Plata County Fair, rafted down the Animas River, toured an art show downtown and enjoyed Durango, and especially Grandma's House. We talked, visited and enjoyed each other. "The house is marvelously we-provisioned. Everything we needed, we found. And the decor is charming. Loved all the flower arrangements and pictures"

We came for a family reunion and a wedding. We met up with other family members coming from Tulsa, Grand Junction, CO, and Pagosa Springs. We talked, played dominos, attended the wedding. Just being together was special. "We enjoyed our visit in your Grandmother's home."

We came for daughter graduating from college. We went to Narrow Gauge Days, the girls loved the trains, and we watched our daughter graduate from Fort Lewis College. We are at The Palace, and The Ore House, and just enjoyed walking around this beautiful area. We love this place. It has given us so many memories. We'll be back to try the Iron Horse Race!
