Roatan lies in the Caribbean, about 30 miles off the coast of Honduras, with easy boat and air connections to the mainland. The island is situated on the world's second-longest barrier reef, with world-class diving and snorkeling. Sonrisa del Sol is less than five minutes by boat from the reef. On Roatan, you can also arrange to swim or dive with dolphins or dive with sharks.
Only 2 1/2 hours from Houston, Roatan is served by non-stop flights from several U.S. airports. On your arrival, Sonrisa del Sol's property manager will meet you and take you to your island home, stopping for groceries on the way if you wish. Your property manager will be available during your stay to advise you on activities and deal with any problems you might encounter. At the end of your stay, your manager will transfer you back to the airport, where you will say farewell to your Caribbean island until your next visit!
Designed to take advantage of the almost constant trade winds, this two-story beachfront home offers louvered glass windows, cathedral ceilings on the second floor and ceiling fans throughout. The air-conditioned master bedroom is located on the second floor; it offers a spacious en-suite bathroom, and has an additional futon. The air-conditioned second bedroom is on the ground floor; it also has an en-suite bathroom.
There is a huge second-floor deck for sunning, relaxing and entertaining and a large deck on the first floor outside the second bedroom. A dock with a sun deck allows for swimming and boating. SCUBA and snorkeling can be provided by a local PADI dive center, and an outside shower is available to rinse off the salt water.
A car is recommended for island travel, and one is available with the property for rental at a favorable rate.

Alan and Billie began traveling extensively even before we retired several years ago. We love SCUBA and other water adventures and enjoy vacationing in beautiful places (with water!) around the world.
Why the Owner Chose French Caye
Having explored various possibilities around the world for a vacation home, we fell in love with Roatan - a diver's paradise, a tropical island surrounded by an azure sea, where English is prevalent and the inhabitants friendly. Our home, perched atop a bluff, overlooks a Caribbean inlet. It was the breeze and the deep, clear Caribbean water that sold us on this prime property.
The Unique Benefits of this House
In addition to water sports, we enjoy visiting with the local islanders, expatriates and tourists from around the world. We enjoy the privacy of the location as well as the convenience of being close to dining and other activities. A major island attraction is the Iguana and Marine Park, located 100 yards from Sonrisa del Sol.
