We loved the house. It was so much nicer than the pictures portray. Perfect for us. Our two daughters, their husbands and their babies were very comfortable there. The house had everything we needed. The beautiful back yard was a favorite place to sit and enjoy the sun. We were able to walk to the Hyatt for our son's wedding along the gorgeous walking path. We were so sad to leave this paradise and would gladly come back to stay in this house.

We would easily recommend this wonderful house to friends/relatives. It was perfect for our family (4 adults, 2 children) with lots of living, dining & kitchen space on one side of the house, and all bedrooms and bathrooms on the other side, making it very well balanced. We loved the patios and bbq - just a very relaxing and well designed home, with the laundry room making it convenient to do wash. Hale Laka's location was great - 5 minutes walking to the Hyatt and Shipwreck beach and 10 min. to Brenneckes and Poi'pu beaches. We went to both several times, walking toward the Hyatt to see the glorious sunrises. The cul de sac was so nice for the boys, as was the greenbelt... a nice neighborhood. The photos reflected the rentals appearance and the owner was super easy to communicate with, promptly answering any questions I had. We will happily come again and refer friend interested in renting a house over a hotel stay. Two of our favorite activites were referrals from Brennecke's - a small catamarran boat tour up NaPali coast (Captain was Greg) and a Rafting Snorkel tour in a Navy Seal zodiac boat, (Captain Tara, owner and guide). On both trips we saw dolphins (bottle nose and spinners) and sea turtles - major highlights of the day - we swam with the turtles and a variety of fish. These were not big companies, but local independently owned and operated, so we enjoyed special and educational adventures. The other great activity was inner-tubing down an old sugar plantation irrigation river, through some tunnels with lighted hard-hats - it was a blast. It's located just past the Wailea Falls turnoff.

Great location and vacation house
Great location and vacation house
The vacation house is within walking distance to Grand Hyatt. It's nice to take a walk on the beach in the morning. The house is equipped with enough beach towels for all of us (5 adults and 4 kids) and the beach accessories (i.e. boggy boards, noodles, snorkeling gear and etc) also came in handy for us. The community pool is rather small and of course can't compete with the pools you normally get in the hotels. But that's expected. The house can get quite warm in the afternoon since it doesn't have AC. You will just need to get the windows and doors (all have insect screens) opened to get the air circulate. All in all, it's a good vacation house for family.

Our group of 6 adults and 2 children absolutely loved everything about this property. For us the ability to use every inch of the house both inside and out was superb. Proximity to so many touristy attractions- beach, shopping, tours, pool, hiking, etc made our vacation just that much more pleasurable. Trust me when I say that should we revisit Poipu in the future we will again stay at this wonderful home. Mahalo.

This property was exactly as described and pictured! We had our 3 kids and my 79 year old parents. It was a perfect set-up for that! There was plenty of room for everyone. My favorite part of the whole house was the back porch! It was a great place to sit out with coffee in the morning and a perfect place for cocktails at night. It was very secluded and we rarely heard anyone on either side. The owner was wonderful to work with. She was so very prompt with emails and answers to questions. The only drawback is that there was no air conditioning, but we knew that going in to the week. It seemed really warm inside and kind of tough to cool the house down. All in all, it was a fabulous time and home.

The house is very nice in a great location, very pretty neighborhood. We initially were a little disappointed because the house was not as clean and tidy as the pictures.Hawaiian weather has taken its toll on the outside furniture. The owner needs to put a little money into its upkeep. It's age is definitely showing. We had to go to the store and pick up some cleaning materials and just did a quick wipe down of counters, we had a baby so we were very picky. There was no dishwasher soap or large, black garbage bags which were required for pick up. We had to buy both. The coffee pot was broken but we were able to find a replacement part in the house. The cleaning lady was less than helpful when I called her, but the owner was very nice. Loved the location but would look at other properties.

Owner response: Hi Susan, Thank you for your review. Yes, Hawaiian weather does take its toll on the outside furniture. We are purchasing new patio furniture on our next trip over. I'm glad you found the extra coffee pot we left in the house because they do break from time to time. That's why we have a spare. I have instructed my housekeeper to leave more dishwashing soap and trash bags for the guests. (She is single and sometimes finds it hard to believe the amount of trash that can be generated by larger families!) I'm glad you liked the location. We love the proximity to the ocean and the walking paths that take you through the beautiful gardens right to the beach. Aloha, Sonya & Ron
Poipu--On the Sunny Side of Life
Poipu--On the Sunny Side of Life
Poipu is known as the sunny side of Kaua'i Island because the weather is often perfect for beach lovers. Add that to the fact that this lovely home has glass doors and tall windows, and we certainly felt like we were on the sunny side of life. We were greeted with macadamia nut chocolate kisses (we were hooked immediately) as well as some great recommendations for things to do in the area. The owners also checked in with us to make sure everything was going smoothly and gave us info in case we had questions at any time. Hospitality+tons of sunlight+Poipu= PARADISE!

My family stayed here for a week and a half. In short, it felt like home by the time we left. There is so much to do outside in Kauai, it was very nice to look forward to staying in doors at this place as well.

Owner response: I'm so glad you liked the house. After a long day exploring all the wonders of Kauai, it is nice to come home to a house and relax with family & friends. Mahalo!
This is a beautifully appointed and maintained home in a magical location. Our three generations had plenty of space and wished our stay could have been longer. The property has everything we needed and more. We definitely recommend it. If you stay, please patronize the produce stand on Pe'e Road. It has an every changing selection of fruits & veggies - most grown right there.

Owner response: Thank you Laura for your kind review. Yes, Kauai is indeed a magical place. Especially our location in Poipu Kai resort, where the meandering walking paths take you past fragrant blooming flowers & trees down to the ocean. Glad you enjoyed the house! -Sonya & Ron
We created lifetime memories with three generations at this wonderful Hawaii spot. It became home over the week long vacation as my sons enjoyed spending time with my parents. The quick walk to the beach made this an ideal location. My son's favorite part..."everyday you just wear your swim suit and eventually end up swimming in the ocean". Enjoy the wonderful memories you can create at this perfect house!

About the owner: We live in the California Bay Area. We have 3 school-age children and visit this house every year at least 3 times. We consider it our home away from home and our kids love the island and all its activities. We always discover something new on each visit.
Why the Owner Chose Private Homes:
We bought this house after visiting Kauai numerous times. Our first visit to the island was to the north shore to backpack the NaPali coastline. Since then, we decided to buy on the south shore due to its centralized location, resort feel and drier weather. We know you will love the location in Poipu since the house is within walking distance to 3-4 different beaches, restaurants, shops, pool and tennis.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Our extended family love the privacy of the inner courtyard, the closeness to the Grand Hyatt and the beaches, and our parents love the single level and openess of the house. When our kids were younger, the inner courtyard and fenced backyard were a great place for the kids to play.
