Our house is located between neighbouring homes on the eastern edge of the village of Soglio. Soglio is situated on a southern slope in the valley community of Bergall, in the canton of Graubünden, Switzerland. The mountainside location offers an unobstructed view of the mountainous landscape and the village’s roofs. The solid stone house was built 300 years ago. It was restored during the sixties, and great care was taken to combine its historic elements with functionality. The interior is constructed mainly of wood, as well as Bergell granite, which has been used in this region for generations.

Bergell, one of Graubünden’s southernmost valleys, extends from the village of Maloja, 1,815 m above sea level, all the way to the Italian town of Chiavenna, 330 m above sea level. The valley is distinguished by the Maira, which flows from Maloja Pass to Lake Comer. The Swiss part of the valley is 26 km long, ending at the border town of Castasegna, 696 m above sea level. The climate in the lower part of the valley is mild and almost Mediterranean. Palms grow in Castasegna’s gardens.
