What a great trip to Lisbon and certainly the accommodations were a big part of that. Ellie is truly a wonderful host and was there during my entire stay - always willing to lend a hand with some information or just to have a nice chat if you are missing English a little bit!! A wonderful, bright and clean apartment right in the middle of a vibrant neighbourhood. Previous travellers have wrote that the street gets loud when the locals hang out and chat - that's the point!! Why stay at a VRBO if you do not want to live among the locals? I enjoyed every minute of it and never found the locals chatting with one another to be disturbing at all - it is very colourful and always entertaining. I travelled alone and felt 100% safe and secure the entire time. Ellie's apartment is so clean, comfortable and very affordable - a wonderful place to unwind after a long day of sightseeing ( the bed was the most comfortable I had ever slept in!!). I will return to Lisbon someday and my first order of business will be to book in at Ellie's place. Ellie even sent me an email to see if I made it home safely, now that's a host!! Do yourself a favour ...call Ellie and then cancel your hotel reservation.

This apartment made for a fabulous stay in Lisbon. It was sunny, clean, colorful and charming. Fully stocked with everything that made it feel like home, it was wonderful to come home to after each day of exploring the city and nice to wake up to in the morning. Located in a truly authentic area, I was able to get a real taste of life in Alfama. Convenient to historic sites, buses and trains and nestled in an enchanting maze of cobbled and mosaic streets, it is the perfect location for a traveler who wants to experience the real deal without sacrificing safety, cleanliness, beauty and comfort. Thank you for making my week in Lisbon so enjoyable!

The apartment was everything it purported to be. The owner was extremely helpful. While the Alfama district might appear a bit scruffy to some, we found it charming and the butcher down the street was very friendly and liked Hummers and Arnold Schwarzenegger. We felt very safe and there was lots of sightseeing material in the apartment that we used to explore Lisbon. We would definitely stay there again. And the wifi was very good. We are in our 60s and while the stairs were a bit tight, we made it up and down without problems albeit slowly.

This apartment is so comfortable and cute. It has all the modern equipments, but it is in the heart of historic centre. The location is perfect for sightseeing in Lisbon and day trips outside the city. It's close to tram, bus stops, metro, ferries and train stations. The neighbourhood has so many colourful charms. The people are so friendly. The food is so delicious and fresh.

This apartment gives you the opportunity to soak up the atmosphere of old Lisboa... you will feel you are really "living in the neighborhood." Narrow cobble-stoned streets, laundry hanging overhead, a corner tienda, sidewalk restaurants, singing, laughing friendly people... From our initial inquiry as to availability right through our departure, everything went just the way we wanted and hoped it would. The owner was most helpful with pre-arrival information; when we arrived the property manager was very detailed in explaining how everything worked; the apartment was very clean, the bed comfortable, the shower hot... what more is there to be said. We always measure our level of satisfaction by asking ourselves "Would we do this again?" and here our answer is an unqualified "YES"... four nights was many nights too few!

We enjoyed this property immensely. Full of character and located in a fantastic neighborhood. The area is alive with families and excitement. Great restaurants and shops close by. Numerous attractions and entertainment within walking distance. We found an interesting Azulejos shop just up the street and commisioned some hand painted tiles for our kitchen remodel. This experience beat the heck out of a hotel stay. Mario, our greeter was very knowledgeable and helpful. He was on call 24 hours a day.

My wife and I spent the month of Feb. 2011 in this great little flat. It has everything you might need . We were fortunate that the owner was also in the building and she provided a lot of both friendship and helpfulness. The local community is vibrant and very friendly to tourists and there is lots locally to keep you occupied for days. We had a great time. Thank you Ellie! D&A

This was a wonderful apartment in a great location. The apartment was in perfect condition and had all the amenities -- we will highly recommend it to friends. Alfama is a beautiful neighborhood and so close to everything. The owner was also extremely helpful and responsive.

We found the Alfama District to be our favorite in Lisbon. Walking the winding narrow cobblestone streets is a wonderful way to experience the true flavor of the area. The apartment is in a great location with a small market and bakery within steps of the apartment building. The apartment has all the amenities needed; dishware, fluffy towels, coffee, comfortable bed and sitting area. Many good restaurants close by. We were very fortunate to have the owner on site during our stay which was a real treat. I even bought one of her lovely paintings!! We will be back! Patricia USA

"Yes, Yes a double positive on this well located sunny Alfama apartment. The furnishings were comfortable and the kitchen adequately equipped. There is a bakery and convenience shop near by as well as fado, good restaurants, and shopping. Public transportation is convenient and that includes the famous Portugal trolley. If you need Internet access there is Wi-Fi, but up the street there is a friendly Internet cafe. We enjoyed the Fado Museum and the Fado cafe located within walking distance of the apartment. The only negative about this apartment is I do not own it." Charlie B. Davis

Yes we had a really nice time. The apartment was great and so much better than staying in a hotel. We did go to two Fado clubs while there. The one just up the street was fine. We also went to one near the Fado Museum called Club de Ray or Fado de Ray. This was a much better club. The mandolin player is wonderful. We did enjoy our trip. Lisbon is a nice city. If anyone we know is going to lisbon I will recommend your apartment without reservations. Tony. (Feb 2009)

Great location in the heart of Alfama, lively working class neighborhood, on a steep pedestrian street. Cafes, grocieris, and great restaurants nearby - We ate dinner every night within 200 meters of our door. Even Fado. Walked to the flea market, the Castelo. Tram 28 takes you across town to Barrio Alto for sunday lunch. Sunny apartment with lots of fresh air, except no window in the bedroom. Good bed. Nice kitchen. Comfortable sitting area. Great apartment.

The apartment was a great place to spend Christmas. It's in a great location, a few minutes walk from the metro station, lots of friendly neighbors and a feel for the old Lisbon. Great internet, loved the kitchen. Would love to come back in the spring!
