Walk through the Japanese Gate over the wood bridge with red painted handrails that arch across a dry-creek bed to a large covered slate entry porch graced on either side by antique Fu Dogs that once reigned at the Guggenheim Estate in Hawaii. Two antique Redwood double entry doors, dismantled from a Victorian in San Francisco, greet your entry into a light-filled Foyer with an elevated Japanese Tokonoma (art altar), cork floors, exposed beam ceiling and a slate covered moon-gate.
The Great Room begins with slate floors that expand into the Kitchen, Dining Area, Powder Room and lead from the outdoor hot tub to the Master Bath. The walls of the Great Room are covered with reclaimed clear Cedar. The ceiling vaults to a 28' cupola containing 4 skylights. The five Great Room windows, positioned perfectly to view Mt. Ashland and the city, extend upwards 12' with a 5' circle window above.
The large Kitchen with 11' ceilings is equipped with all stainless steel appliances and a gas cook stove. Granite counter tops, 2 stainless steel sinks, a 4x6' island attached, raised serving/sitting bar with 2 stools and a dining table with 6 woven grass chairs.
Walk from the Great Room into the Master Bedroom on slate floors to the custom marble topped walnut vanity with a hand carved Balinese relief and Asian plinth blocks built in which accent the 2 above counter zen sinks. A walk-in slate and marble shower with heated walls and floor with a skylight above and a built-in 33x51" antique leaded glass window separating the sleeping area. A laundry room off the master bath includes a laundry sink. The carpeted bed area looks out 6 large windows viewing Pilot Rock, Wagner Butte and Mt. Ashland.
Off of the Great Room is a beautiful full 2nd Bath with a light and bright guest bedroom looking into the Japanese Garden with a large sleeping loft above that looks into the Great Room that also has 2 skylights and 3 windows!
This home also has a beautiful lower level 1100 sq.ft. suite for six persons,with a beautiful covered patio that may also be rented simultanously if there is not a schedule conflict. Totally handicap accessable. Look for Contemporary Asian Sanctuary 2 on VRBO!

This home is amazing! Driving into the property you get a sense right away that you are in for a special treat. As I walked through the front door and looked out the floor to ceiling windows and viewed Mt. Ashland for the first time, I knew that I was going to fall in love with this house. A big component was that it did not feel like the typical "vacation home". The home itself delights the eye at every turn, elegant and comfortable with attention to detail to optimize comfort and address every need. I could go on and on about the views, the sunsets/sunrises gathered on the deck drinking in the magnificent landscape. I wish I could convey how incredible and magical this very special home is, it truly is beyond expectation!!! M.L.

The Asian Sanctuary has the Elegance of of a Penthouse Suite and the Charm of a Mountain retreat. Having been in Building for 29 years, the first thing I noticed was how detailed the planning of the house was with consideration of the theme and environment, then built to that vision. I was Lucky enough to be able to spend some time with owner Clay who gave me a personal tour of The Asian Sanctuary, which was clearly a passion project for him, for me it was like a work of art that one gets to inhabit for a short time. The beauty of the home and the tranquil sites on the grounds are only enhanced by the warm welcoming energy that embraces you from the moment you step into it.

We spent a few days in your beautiful home as part of our pre and post wedding get-away. We couldn't have chosen a more wonderful, relaxing location. We woke up each morning to the sun coming up over the beautiful mountains, and the grazing deer. Every detail of the home was remarkable, and we continued to find more and more as the days went by. Needless to say, it was very hard to leave when the time came. This place is a temple to soothe one's soul.

this place is extraordinary. we felt the peace the minute we walked into the home. it was just unbelievable how beautiful the house, the view and the whole property was. we literally stayed up late the first night, enjoying this luxurious yet peaceful retreat. my husband teased that he is sure , brad and angelina are going to be the next guests. the house is a truly a masterpiece! the view is just amazing, the deck gives you an incredible access to nature and wildlife. stargazing was just so uplifting. the place is also so close to all that is great about ashland area. this home is the best vacation place ever. you don't even have to leave the property to feel refreshed and rejuvenated. this home is an attraction in itself. it is an architectural marvel but also a sanctuary. We cannot thank the owners enough for their kindness and openness to share this rare treasure. we are already booking our yearly retreat here
