Modern Lakefront 'Cabin in the Woods' by Glacier National Park

Year Purchased: 2003

Why the Owner Chose Columbia Falls

We bought our home near Glacier National Park because it was the quintessential "cabin in the woods" on a small lake, yet close enough to civilization to give us all the comforts of life we have become accustomed to. The house's proximity to Glacier National Park, Kalispell, Whitefish and Bigfork (Flathead Lake) is fabulous! It's essentially 20 minutes away from everything.

The Unique Benefits at this House

We have thoroughly enjoyed watching the wildlife from our deck overlooking Duck Lake (moose, bear, beaver, heron, eagles, osprey and, of course, ducks) including the little squirrels and chipmunks around the house, and love the wonderful "back road" access to Glacier National Park. The house is centrally located to virtually anything one would want to do while visiting the area -- Glacier Park, Flathead Lake, Polebridge, Whitefish & more. Secluded, yet still quite close to everything. Even Glacier International Airport is only about a 20 minute drive from the house!

Owner's Map of Columbia Falls

We've loved the Mountain West since we were introduced to it in the early 1980's and finally moved into the Rocky Mountain Region in 1995. We love to spend time in the National Parks located in the Western US and just generally explore this fabulous area of the country. When we aren't dreaming of being independently wealthy, we are working hard at our jobs to earn "play" money so we can continue exploring the Western US and beyond. And no, we're not in the Witness Protection Program as some of our friends have suggested we may be when they saw this photo of us. :->

Great Place From which to explore Glacier and the Bob Marshall Wilderness

Guest: Sandy (Litchfield, NH)
Date of Stay: 09/27/11 Review Submitted: 10/11/11

This is a perfect place to explore Glacier National Park. The backroads to the park saves time and avoids traffic. You are in the wilderness and yet only 15 minutes from Columbia Falls to purchase your necessities. The cabin has every amenity you could want including a printer and internet hookup. There was even a cannister of bear spray on the counter which we carried on our hikes but never needed. Every room was immaculate with many extras for guests' use. If you stay here, save time to explore the Jewel Basin area - a less popular but equally scenic hiking area. You will never regret renting this "cabin".

Home Away from Home

Guest: Jay, Bari, Chris, Leah (Chesapeake Beach, Maryland )
Date of Stay: 09/10/11 Review Submitted: 09/27/11

We spent a week in this wonderful cabin on the lake. It was a very private and quiet setting. The cabin was well equipped with everything that you could possibly need. We cooked in, (or grilled) most nights using a well equipment-stocked kitchen. The beds were incredibly comfortable and the washer/dryer came in quite handy after a day's worth of hiking. Very close to Glacier National Park (do the Grinnell Glacier hike!) and an easy drive to Whitefish. The pictures of the cabin are an accurate portrayal, but can't convey the absolute coziness of the place. We knew we were in for a great experience before we even arrived due to the helpfulness and attentiveness of the owners and their thorough and timely communication. We were so impressed!

Montana vacation at Glacier Park

Guest: Tony & Debra (Georgia)
Date of Stay: 08/13/11 Review Submitted: 08/25/11

My husband and I absolutely loved this cabin. It was exactly as described and more. Very comfortable, clean and accomodating in every way. We enjoyed our time riding through Glacier Park and Many Glacier. We also paid a visit to Bigfork - a very lovely town and the restaurant "Pocketstone" was very good. We also bought cherries from Bigfork cherry orchard. We also enjoyed in Columbia Falls the restaurant Nite Owl...their breakfast was good and broasted chicken for lunch or dinner was too. We enjoyed seeing the wildlife and the scenary was undescribably beautiful. At this time, we plan to return next year! We would highly recommend this cabin and it's area to friends and family!

Cozy cottage Close to Everything

My husband and selected this lovely cabin as a base of operation for out 30th anniversary trip. We could not have been more pleased with the cabin and all it has to offer. The pictures do not do it justice as they can't relay the warmth and charm we felt while staying there. The cabin is located on a small lake and though there are other cabins surrounding the it, we honestly never heard any noise and rarely saw anyone. The owners were very easy to communicate with and the family did everything to make us feel at home in their place. I loved the maps and other info you made readily available. The Blankenship cutoff to Glacier N.P. was genius! That probably saved us a couple hours over the course of our stay. We dined all over the area from Big Fork to Whitefish and really didn't go wrong. I really enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere of Buffalo Grill in Whitefish and the guacamole at Columbia Falls Los Caporales was some of the best I have eaten. Should my travels ever find me headed back to Glacier National Park I will definitely head back to this charming "cabin in the woods."

Glacier Getaway

Guest: Keith A. (Missouri)
Date of Stay: 06/29/11 Review Submitted: 07/18/11

My wife and I stayed 6 nights at the cabin on Duck Lake. The listing and pictures do a good job of describing the property. The cabin was everything we could have asked for. It was clean, had everything we needed for cooking, and the bed was comfortable. It was very peaceful and relaxing. We enjoyed sitting out on the deck and watching the wildlife on the lake. For the bird lovers, we saw grebes, hummingbirds, red-naped sapsuckers, and vireos. There is a TV in the cabin but we didn't turn it on. The internet connection was great for researching what to do in the park. We used the grill every night. Be sure to stop at Perfect Cuts Meats in Columbia Falls to pick up some flat iron steaks for the grill. The short cut over to West Glacier made it a short trip to get to the park entrance.

Wonderful and Comfortable Cabin - Perfect Place to Stay when Visiting the Glacier

Guest: Carri (Indiana)
Date of Stay: 07/06/11 Review Submitted: 07/18/11

The pictures do not do this cabin justice. It is very comfortable and very well equipped. We cooked/grilled out most of the week we stayed in the cabin - the kitchen had everything we needed - even an array of spices. We enjoyed a fire in the chiminea each night as we relaxed on the deck enjoying the solitude. We took the back roads into West Glacier (map/directions provided in cabin) which saved time plus allowed us to enjoy the landscape (even saw a baby black bear along the way one day). Short drive from Columbia Falls for when we needed groceries or other items. We plan on returning to this area and the cabin next summer.

A really beautiful cabin and a perfect base for Glacier NP

Guest: Sally T. (London, UK)
Date of Stay: 05/26/10 Review Submitted: 06/12/11

We spent 10 days here and would have loved to have stayed longer. The cabin is stylish, immaculate and beautifully fitted out - the photos are good but the cabin is better. The loft has the most comfortable bed you can imagine. The view over the lake is wonderful, whatever the weather, and we had closeup views of the three resident beavers every evening. From the deck we also saw squirrels, chipmunks, muskrats, bald eagles, ospreys, woodpeckers, sandpipers, a loon and many other birds. There is great access to Glacier - from the cabin there's a "back route" in by the Camas Highway, and the drive up the North Fork to Polebridge is beautiful. Yet you are only a short drive from Columbia Falls and Whitefish. Romany took care of everything for us and was a pleasure to deal with. Thanks Romany - hope to come back one day!

Wonderful vacation spot in the woods

Guest: Amy (Monroe, VA)
Date of Stay: 09/09/10 Review Submitted: 09/27/10

My husband and I chose this rental house after researching rentals for weeks. We are very glad we did. We spent 10 days in bear country and loved it! The home was immaculate and very well kept. The home office with the ethernet hook-up was very nice as we could stay in touch with home but still enjoy our vacation. The kitchen was well equipped and had all the basic items needed to cook. The proximity of the home to all of the major attractions was convenient. We were only a short drive away from Glacier Park and from Columbia Falls. We hiked many days and spent many hours riding the going to the sun road. We did the zip line and saw moose, bear, mountain goat and sheep. We hope to be able to come back to Montana in a few years; if we do we would love to stay at this home again.

Recent Stay at Duck Lake Cabin - August, 2010

Guest: Mike (Naples, Florida)
Date of Stay: 08/21/10 Review Submitted: 09/02/10

My wife and I recently stayed 4 nights at the Duck Lake cabin. We had a wonderful experience that exceeded all of our expectations. In fact, the website pictures really don't do the property justice. The cabin is modern, clean and well maintained. It has a wonderful view of the lake that provided beautiful scenery, especially at sunrise and sunset. The area is quiet, wooded and yet only 10-15 minutes from Columbia Falls. Further, it's in a great location for access to Whitefish, Kalispell and Glacier National Park. In summary, we highly recommend this property. Many thanks for the Norris family for sharing this property with others and handling the the whole rental experience in a professional and caring manner.
