Harbour Place extends over a sizable portion of the ground floor of the West wing of the historic New Kings Hotel, built in 1930 and recently refurbished and turned into luxury apartments. The apartment offers truly spectacular views of the harbour, ocean and Hottentot mountain range in the distance. The interior is extremely spacious with lots of light, high ceilings, Tasmanian Teak wooden floors and lead glass windows. Finishings are the very best, with luxury touches like underfloor heating for the winter months, Egyptian cotton, hand-embroidered sheets on the beds and Persian rugs on the floor.

There is an undercover patio with a gas barbecue and patio furniture, as well as a well-placed wooden deck looking onto the harbour and the hustle and bustle of the village. A small grassed garden has 2 loungers for reading and sunbathing. A great favourite with guests is the one-way smoked glass corner bay window that looks onto the passing parade in Windsor street. Here, one can spend a an entire afternoon "people watching" from the comfort of a quiet corner in the living room.

Why the Owner Chose Cape Town

We fell in love with Kalk Bay on our first visit there - it's one of the last remaining working fishing villages on the Cape Coast and a true Bohemia of artists, writers, fishermen, food lovers, fashion and jewellery designers, etc. We waited for the right property to come up for sale and when it did, we seized the opportunity to invest in a piece of heaven right on the edge of the ocean. Our apartment is part of the refurbished historic part of Kalk Bay, and truly special with its uninterrupted views of the Harbour and Hottentot mountains beyond. We found the perfect manager in Suzaan Fourie, our hands-on person in Kalk Bay who takes care of the day to day running of our apartment.

The Unique Benefits at this Apartment

Harbour Place combines a traditional beach holiday with all the quirkiness associated with a small fishing village. Here you can choose between several excellent swimming beaches and tidal pools, but you can also spend the day exploring the many art galleries, craft shops, book stores, antique shops, jewelers and potters etc. Hungry? There are over 20 excellent restaurants within a radius of 2 km. Some of them, like The Olympia Cafe (our next door neighbour) and Harbour House, are known far and wide for their excellent cuisine. Hop on the train (just 100m from the apartment) enjoy a 30 minute ride to the centre of Cape Town, Table Mountain and all its activities and sights. Take the train in the opposite direction, and visit the penguin colony on Boulders Beach, or check out the Naval Museum in Simon's town. The ride itself is an experience, with the train snaking along the breath-taking coastline of False Bay. In August and September, you can enjoy whale watching from the apartment's wooden deck. There is so much to do in this rather colourful corner of the Cape!

The Lodging Highlight of our SA trip

After two disappointing stays at Krueger and Stellenbosch, our expectations were low when we arrived at Harbourplace. We were elated when we opened the door to the flat to see what awaited us. Truly well done, with no detail overlooked. The flat is done the way I would if it were for my own use. Very comfortbale and spacious, tastefuully decorated with great views and a good location. For the first time on our 2 week holiday, we actually had a place where we could look forward to return to at the end of the day. As a result, we were very content to spend the afternoon there with a glass of wine on the porch. watching the crowd go by. Zelda was very accomodating host, and our family of four found it an excellent base to explore the CT area from. Highly recommended! John - Singapore/USA

The feel of the place is great. We loved sitting on the porch with coffee in am or wine in pm, watching all the activity. We were impressed with the attention to detail in how the place is furnished and stocked. It is rare for us to look forward to "returning to the room" when on holiday. But Harbour Place was an exception to that. We would love to plan a return as our stay in Cape Topwn was too short...and will also recommend to friends! Portsmouth, New Hampshire, USA

Thank you for a magical, comfortable and unique stay. What a cool and Bohemian place Kalk Bay is - we loved it all, especially the restaurants! Olympia Cafe is the BEST for breakfasts. The Brass Bell, Harbour House, Sirocco, the pizza/pasta place all highly recommended with Kalky's for fish and chips. Pepe the parrot will hop on your shoulder if you're not careful in the Emporium/antique shop by the station. He is gorgeous. Hope you visit us in Pomos, Paphos in Cyprus.

We have just returned from a month-long stay in Harbour Place, Kalk Bay, and are still adjusting to 'reality' after the most glorious stay. Harbour Place is a truly beautiful and memorable apartment... wonderfully comfortable, exquisitely decorated & fully equipped with everything you would want/need, and more... We award it 5 stars! Having stayed just outside Cape Town for a month over a year ago, we far preferred this experience. Kalk Bay is a lovely coastal spot (only a 20-min drive from Cape Town!) with warm sea breezes to alleviate the intense heat experienced on summer days, fantastic restaurants right on your doorstep, a great independent bookshop next door on one side and delicious food served at the renowned 'Olympian' Cafe and Restaurant on the other side of the apartment... great boutiques/quirky antique shops and cafes... What more could you want? Well, there's the views of the sea and harbour (and mountains in the distance) directly outside, a health and beauty spa in the complex (as well as pool), total security for peace of mind, train access to all local spots along the coast - which we delighted in frequenting despite having a car (with private allocated parking space), wonderful swimmming/surfing beaches within walking distance, and the Majestic estate itself is very attractive and luxurious. While there, we revisited Cape Town, Camps & Clifton Bays, Hout Bay, Constantia Wine Valley and Uitsig Vienyard and restaurant, Cape Point, Boulders Beach, Simonstown, Fish Hoek, Muizenberg, the Cape National Park, Spier Estate, Stellenbosch and many more places of interest - all of which are incredibly easily reached from Kalk Bay. We would urge anyone considering the city centre to rethink and spend time here instead - Kalk Bay has a pace all of its own and a real community feel. You can easily spend days on end at the harbour alone, watching the fishing-boats come and go, the daily fish market, eating fish and chips on the pier at 'Kalky's' and enjoying the resident seals who come up the harbour steps and eat from your hand... At times we had to drag ourselves away from the charm of Kalk Bay and force ourselves to move... A walk along the oceanside to the neighbouring towns is also a lovely way to start the morning here... We really did find this to be an incredibly relaxing and enjoyable place to stay, and will definitely return in the future. Last, and not least, the apartment's owner Zelda, and Manager Suzaan, were so helpful, cha

Owner response:What can we say? The Martins were the perfect guests, and we can't wait for them to return. Thanks so much for the glowing report, Debbie and Phillip. You are helping us put Kalk Bay and Harbour Place on the map!
