Accommodations:  Apartment, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths (Sleeps 4-6)

The Weaver's Loft is on the first floor of the East Wing in a very special Grade II listed, holiday let in the beautiful Cotswold village of Chalford. Just a short drive away is the 'Capital of the Cotswolds' Cirencester, Painswick, Cheltenham, Stroud, the antiques center of Tetbury, the World Heritage City of Bath, Bourton-on-the-Water and much more.

The recently refurbished accommodation is a fabulous loft-style apartment comprising a large open plan living/dining area complete with wood burner and under floor heating throughout. There is a a fully equipped modern kitchen, 1 double with fabulous views of the valley and an ensuite shower and toilet and 1 bunk room and separate bathroom.

The Loft forms part of a large listed property, once occupied by the owner of one of the local mills. The Weaver's Loft is believed to be originally a 'factory' floor for the weaving of wool or silk from Sevilles' Mill.

Chalford is in some of the most beautiful countryside in the whole range of the Cotswolds (and even the country). Nestled in the Golden Valley, one of Stroud's Five Valleys, Chalford is described as the Alpine Village with its steep hills and houses perched along small donkey tracks. A walkers' paradise with beautiful scenery around every corner. The narrow High Street winds its way through the village past an amazing array of characterful cottages.

Chalford was once a centre for the wool industry, with many Listed mills dotted along the old Thames and Severn Canal. Many houses you still can't drive to and the community of Chalford has even re-established use of a donkey for grocery deliveries! In the village is a small shop run by volunteers selling a selection of lovely organic goodies and a short walk away are some great pubs for beer, wine, good food and stunning sunsets.

Please note: There is also a beautiful 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom Cottage Annex available to rent either with the Loft or separately - check out listing #249926.

Owner's Profile

Owner Description

Year Purchased: 2005

My husband and I fell in love with our beautiful Grade II listed home in the Cotswolds. We bought it in 2005 and have been lovingly refurbishing it since along with occasional help (and hindrance) from our young daughter, Freya, and our playful chocolate Labrador, Revel.

Why the Owner Chose Cirencester

We already knew the village of Chalford - the Alpine village as it is often known - and loved the strong community feel, the beautiful valley and walks plus being so accessible from across the country. The Saturday morning donkey deliveries are a plus for guests and us as well!

The Unique Benefits of this Apartment

Where to start? There are so many things to do from staying nearby and enjoying the walks, the river, the fresh air and beautiful Cotswold villages to travelling a little further and seeing the regency town of Bath or the spires of Oxford or the race courses, the polo, the wildlife park, playing golf, groceries delivered by donkey to your doorstep ..... Even a day-trip to London is possible with a 1.25 hour train journey into Paddington.

    • We stayed here with our two boys, 5 and 6 on a beautiful, sunny weekend. The Loft is wonderful, with windows looking every which way and lovely views across the valley. It is elegantly decorated, very comfortable and well eqipped (Anna and Chris have remembered all those small but important things like can openers, cork screws and even black out blinds in the bunk room). Chalford itself is a great place to stay, the kind of village that makes you think a move out of the city would be a very good idea. There is a playground just down the hill, a shop (with sweets) at the other end of the village, a stream at the bottom of the road and endless paths up the hills and into the woods. And there is plenty to do elsewhere as well, a farmers market in Stroud, a leisure centre for lousy weather days and plenty of good pubs within walking distance. I would highly recommend the Loft to anyone, as a romantic getaway for two, as a perfect bolthole for a family or as a great base for walking and exploring the whole area. We'll definitely be going back.

    • Oh What a lovely loft ! We enjoyed a thoroughly relaxing week in Anna and Chris's spacious, yet so cosy apartment in this idyllic Cotswold village. With stunning countryside views from all aspects, the luxurious accommodation has all new mod cons, comfy beds and fabulous kitchen + bathrooms (there's even a lovely wood fire stove in the living area which was a doddle to light). Perfect for gorgeous, life-affirming walks in the countryside 50 meters from the front door; some lovely pubs serving delicious food (one of the best steaks we've eaten and we've eaten quite a few let me tell you) and the perfect base for traffic-free day (take the B-roads- ask Anna ) visits to Bath, Cheltenham (especially for the Arts and Jazz Festivals) and Hidcote Manor Gardens (one of the most beautiful in the UK - a must ) as well as the numerous villages ( we visited Minchinhampton, Painswick and Tetbury - all lovely). Sounds perfect ? It really is for all the reasons mentioned above -oh and really good value for money - so thanks again to our charming hosts - we will be returning in the Autumn (if they'll have us !)

    • My family spent a delightful weekend in the Weaver's Loft recently. It is beautifully furnished and has all mod cons in full working order! It is peaceful and surrounded by stunning views and wildlife. The Loft is well presented and and spacious. My children particularly enjoyed their comfy bunkbeds and making us tea in the morning! Our room was bright and airy with en-suite shower and loo, etc. All new and very clean. Wish we could have stayed for weeks!! Would thoroughly recommend the Weaver's Loft for good value accommodation for either family, two couples or one couple exploring or visiting friends. Superb!
