Why the Owner Chose Highlands

Our family has been vacationing in the Highlands area for over 50 years. Our parents owned this home for 25 years. This area is best known for its unparalleled natural beauty and perfect summer climate. Enjoy mountain vistas and breathtaking waterfalls along with cool mountain breezes all summer long. In the fall, spectacular leaf colors will dazzle your eyes. Activities abound for every age; world class golf courses, endless hiking trails, waterfalls, scenic overlooks, pristine lakes and trout streams, boating and canoeing, horseback riding stables within minutes on guided mountain trails, Gem Mining in nearby Franklin, and the NEW Harrah's Casino in close by Cherokee. Gourmet restaurants with charming antique shops in both Cashiers and the famous shopping district in Highlands are a short drive away.

Just North in the town of Dillsboro, find the Great Smokey Mountain Railroad. There you may experience a Smokey Mountain scenic tour, with dinner aboard if desired. Day trip to Ashville, to the Biltmore Estate, to Great Smokey Mountain National Park, & Nantahala Whitewater Rafting Tours. All this, and the perfect mountain climate, have thousands of visitors coming back year after year! It's no wonder this area has been ranked by the Wall Street Journal, Rand McNally, and National Geographic Traveler, as one on America's TOP TEN places to live and play!

    • A must see if you are seeking peace and quiet in a beautiful setting! Located between Franklin and Highlands this rental is approximately 5 miles up a gorgeous mountain road. When we rounded the corner and saw the property for the first time we were completely in awe. This charming cabin is surrounded by woods and mountains, with two trout ponds in front and a small waterfall and stream running through the property. The cabin maintains its wonderful character from years past, while allowing for modern conveniences—beautiful craftsmanship of architecture and charming cabin décor. We spent mornings and evenings sitting on the deck. There is a grill for cooking out and a chiminea for enjoying a fire at night. Trails on the property make for great exploring and, of course, the trout ponds for fishing. This area of North Carolina is full of outdoor activities such as fishing, boating, and hiking. Highlands and Cashiers, in particular, have quaint little shops, boutiques, and garden nurseries for the avid shopper. The Biltmore in Asheville is a short drive from the cabin and makes a wonderful day trip. We couldn’t be more pleased with our rental experience. The owners were very hospitable and checked to see that we arrived safely. An unfortunate car accident the night before we were to leave left us with no transportation home. The owner was very helpful in giving us phone numbers and information for making arrangements. Upon arriving home we received a follow-up phone call making sure we were got home safely. This rental is a definite “ten”!!

    • Incredible vacation destination; This place has it all, wonderful views, stunning interior design, impressive architecture, and family feel. Our mornings began with coffee on the front porch watching the clouds breeze across hog back mountain, there were trout jumping in the pond and just the feeling that you were the only one for miles around. after a day of fun at nearby attractions we were able to retire to the rear porch and grill out with a glass of wine. I have never felt so comfortable in a VRBO rental. I have been in many places with VRBO and i would say this one is a must see destination. I will definetley be back to this one! Thanks again Jeff G.
