Le Dodici Querce (The 12 Oaks) is a private, family-owned villa situated within a private park -- on a hilltop 3 km above the medieval walled city of Cortona. The movie 'Under the Tuscan Sun' (based on a book by the famous travel writer Frances Mayes) was filmed in Cortona. Frances Mayes' restored house 'Bramasole' is located 1 km from Le Dodici Querce. The Tuscan city of Cortona is 2,130 feet above the Val di Chiana Valley. Le Dodici Querce is easily accessible by car from Cortona. And for those physically able, Cortona is accessible by foot or bicycle. Cortona is 2 hours from Rome and 1 hour from Florence. The villa sleeps six persons in three bedrooms -- with one king-size bed, one double bed, and one single bed. A roll-away bed is available upon request. There are two spacious bathrooms -- one with a bath and shower and one with a shower. All rooms have beautiful views of the gardens or mountains.
The villa is equipped with a modern kitchen including an oven/stove and dishwasher. While retaining the style of a typical Tuscan kitchen, the kitchen is furnished with everything necessary cooking. A large dining room/living room is located off the kitchen. The living room has a beautiful Tuscan fireplace, a TV, antique furniture, and a beautiful view of the mountains and Lake Trasimeno. All rooms are tastefully furnished with Tuscan antiques purchased from local antique markets. There is also a small private chapel on the grounds that is ideal for wedding pictures. Both the kitchen and living room have double doors opening onto a large terrace -- where you can drink your morning espresso or sip your evening wine. In the morning you'll hear only the sound of the birds that populate the park.
In the afternoon you can feel the Tuscan sun while watching the butterflies as they fly from flower to flower. Evenings are best spent on the terrace with a glass of wine -- listening to the owls, while watching the sun set over the mountains and ancient Lake Trasimeno. This private park is situated on two acres, surrounded by ancient oak trees. Your only company will be the birds and the butterflies. As you stroll through the park you'll smell the fragrance of the various flowers and herbs that grow in the gardens. Your stay at Le Dodici Querce will take you back in time; but it will also allow you to enjoy all the comforts of home. If you want to devote yourself to a cultural experience, you can choose among Castiglione del Lago (8 km), Arezzo (30 km), Siena (80 km), Pienza (40 km), Florence (102 km), Perugia (54 km), Assisi (65 km), Montalcino (59 km), Montepulciano (40 km), Rome (190 km), and many other cities rich in history and culture.
