Wonderful little cottage in old Makena. The location could not be any more beautiful; we spent most of our time on the large lanai or on the lawn a few feet from the ocean relaxing and taking in the beauty - watching whales just outside the bay and turtles and fish swimming in the coral reef in front of the house. The house is clean and beautifully decorated and has everything you'll need to pretend like you live on Maui. There is plenty of snorkel equipment and even kayaks! There is a big sandy beach a short walk past the church and small beach you can see from the lanai. The owners are super to work with. We will stay here again for sure!

"WOW" - This is the best adjective to describe this place. It's beauty is surreal. We spent our first couple of days exploring all areas of the island, and left convinced that the Makena Cottage has the best view and the most peaceful feel. The first day we kayaked around the cove in front of the cottage and left for Big Beach. We had our first of many encounters with the turtles, fish, and eels. We walked along the resort oceanfront path (two miles north) and visited Big Beach and the black sand beach (just to the south). The best part of every day was coming back here and watching the sunset from the lawn chairs. Nothing is better than a beautiful sunset, a glass of wine and my best friend! Thank you Petersons for your generosity and your unique ability to turn a rental cottage into a home. (October 2009)

Dear Camille and Eric, What an amazing stay we had! We spent much of our time on the lanai admiring God's creation and having some of the funniest and romantic moments to date. What a great honeymoon! This trip was about taking it easy, tacos, massages, laying in the sun, snorkeling and walks. What a week! (July 2009)

Dear Camille and Eric, Your cottage totally exceeded our expectations. We were lucky enough to figure out when eating time is for the turtles who dine just to the right side of the cove...an unbelievable experience. We will be back! (August 2009)

We arrived here after spending four days in our time share condo in Kihei. While we were in Kihei, we were busy making plans on how we would celebrate our 25th anniversary, but once we got to your beautiful cottage, all plans went out the window! The minute we stepped through your door, we felt ourselves instantly relaxed. We never wanted to leave!! But, I feel like I've seen more of Maui here than any other trip. One day we saw a Monk Seal right out side and another day we saw two manta rays (either playing or mating!) swimming here in the little cove. One of my favorite memories will always be of our daily turtle visits. You can almost set your clock by them! Thank you so much for making our 25th anniversary trip so romantic and memorable. You have the most perfect spot on Maui - I can't wait to come again! (September 2009)

Eric and Camille, As has been noted by all our predecessors, this is the most remarkable cottage. Really, you have thought of everything. We ate here most days. The kitchen has everything. We always try to avoid hotels and condos. We have rented on Maui, Hawaii, Oahu, Ventura, CA, Newport Beach, CA, the Oregon Coast, Costa Rica, Mexico, and Italy and this is the nicest place we have ever stayed. It is those little details like the robes and rice steamer that make this cottage a five star resort. (September 2009)

This house was absolutely wonderful. We invited some friends over for dinner one evening that were staying at the Ritz and they were very envious of our cottage! It was clean with up to date appliances including laundry facilities. We slept to the sound of the ocean, relaxed on the huge deck, and watched for turtles each evening. We are saving our pennies hoping to return next year. My husband says he'll never stay in a hotel again!

My husband and I have stayed at the Makena Oceanfront Cottage twice. It is one of my favorite travel destinations. It's quiet, clean, well maintained and private. I love to be able to walk right off the oceanfront deck and snorkle with the sea turtles and tropical fish. The hot tub is an incredible place to relax in the evening while sipping on rum and coconut (fresh picked from the yard) and while watching sunsets and migrating whales. This place is one of a kind and is a little slice of heaven on earth!

After spending a week in Makena, we think it should actually be called Heaven II. Your beautiful home was perfect for our family vacation and we loved waking to the sounds of the waves each morning. The sunsets on the porch and lounging on the lanai made this such a relaxing retreat. I'm not sure if the kids had more fun swimming with the family of sea turtles in the cove or kayaking along the coast.....but everything about this vacation was perfect. Thank you for sharing your home with us!

We can't thank you enough for the chance to spend a week at your cottage! It was all we hoped for and more. It is in one of the most beautiful locations we have ever been privileged to visit. We loved being right on the ocean and being able to watch the green sea turtles from the lanai every afternoon. We also appreciate the lending library set up in our bedroom. Our stay ranks as our most memorable family vacation ever. We would love to have the opportunity to visit again in the future. Thanks for everything!

The Makena cottage has exceeded for beyond our expectations. We usually commit each vacation day to visiting the sites and touring. The Makena Cottage magically kept us here most of the time. Stars and more stars against the pitch black sky at night. Listening to the surf break lulled us to sleep each night. The full moon setting over the water in the early morning is breathtaking. Palm trees swaying in the trade winds daily. Kayaking and snorkeling among the sea turtles all added to this amazing vacation. Makena Cottage is paradise defined!

We took a driving tour of the entire island and have decided that the most beautiful spot is right here in front of Makena Oceanfront Cottage! We are not "condo people" and having a lovely place like this available just confirms why! The Petersons have thought of EVERYTHING to provide a comfortable stay - right down to the snorkeling equipment.

We loved our stay at your cottage - it was the highlight of our trip! We have had many trips to Maui but none with the privacy, amazing views, and comfort of your place. We hesitated leaving the cottage but managed to get in some snorkeling, kayaking, golfing, and some side trips. But, we were always happy to return "home"! Thanks again to the Petersons for making our stay so enjoyable!

Of all the places I've been foturnate to go throughout the islands, this spot in Makena is what I think of as a slice of Hawaii heaven! We only ate out once or twice. Instead we chose to barbeque and enjoy the finest 5-star view available anywhere! It's all the small touches that made this even better for me...The outside heated showers, finding the sports gear, internet access, a rice cooker, and the hot tub! Thanks Eric & Camille!!

What a beautiful place…thanks Eric and Camille for allowing others to partake in this lovely property. We loved the sleepy location of Makena and the retro, vintage feel of the cottage. You two have provided visitors with many thoughtful touches. We loved the hot tub and the outdoor showers. We snorkeled at Molokini, Honolua Bay, Five Caves and other wonderful locations. We made new friends, including Marissa who runs the wonderful roadside Makena Grill. We will always crave her fish tacos. We shall miss morning coffee on the deck, watching the turtles feed on the lava rocks and following the whales with binoculars. This is truly a magical place. We hope to return one day. (Note from Eric and Camille - We know it's long, and we usually shorten the wonderful testimonials and the stories we receive from guests, but we loved this story so much we included the whole thing. We hope you enjoy our guests' experience in the following story as much as we did!) Hi Camille and Eric,I've been meaning to send you an email to tell you how much we LOVED your cottage. It was amazing, truly. I have been Maui dozens of times and stayed many places, including the 5 Star resorts of Wailea, but I have never felt so comfortable and relaxed as I did staying in your cottage. It was equipped with everything we wanted and needed. All of our big plans to drive to Hana, see the sunrise from Haleakala, etc., were cast aside so that we could savor and enjoy every moment at the cottage. We kayaked, snorkeled, barbequed at sunset, and spent hours watching whales and turtles. One of the most amazing moments of my entire life happened in the kayak that you so generously provided. We went out in the morning and had probably paddled a couple miles offshore. We were watching two adult humpbacks in near the shore. After a while, they began swimming right for us. We got our camera ready and just floated there waiting for what we just knew would be the picture opportunity of a lifetime. They kept swimming towards us, looking more and more enormous each time they appeared. I could feel my heartbeat speeding up as they closed in. When they got within about 50 yards, their flutes came up and down they dove. We were pretty disappointed that they weren't actually going swim right by us. As Loree was putting the camera away, I commented that they were probably underneath us as we spoke. Just as I said that, about 15’ off the bow of the TINY LITTLE KAYAK, the biggest creature I’ve every seen came shooting up, head first, straight out of the water. It probably came our of the water 20’ and I was completely paralyzed. As quick as it came up, it dropped straight back down, creating a splash that nearly tipped the kayak over. Apparently the whale was curious and did what is called a Spy Hop to check us out. It was a moment to make even the staunchest of Atheists believe in God. It was truly astonishing and we now associate that magical moment with your cottage. Though the camera had been put away, I suspect that even if it had been in my hand I wouldn't have had the presence of mind to snap the photo. However, as I work in the visual effects and animation in

Dear Camille & Eric,Thank you so much for our chance to share your truly enchanting cottage. As our time here comes to a close, I realize the cottage has become such a special part of our memories. It was so much more than where we “stayed,” but really a home away from home. While we were here we snorkeled, boogie boarded, swam, all within a minutes walk from the cottage. Even when we were away for the day, returning to this peaceful retreat was a sweet end to the day. To Camille & Eric, Mahalo – with all our hearts!(March 2009)
