This three-story lakefront cottage, called "Blue Heron," provides the ideal setting for family vacations. Recently renovated, painted and decorated, the house is located on a one-acre partially wooded lot, with a large yard that slopes gently down to a bulk-headed shore with a double boathouse and large private dock for swimming, sunning, and boating.
Water depth at the dock is 7-9 feet - all year long. Enjoy an idyllic cove for swimming, fishing, canoeing, and kayaking, on Great Creek cove with some of the best water-skiing on Lake Gaston. Or relax on the large deck and take in the peaceful lake view.
Blue Heron is ideal for one, two, or even three, families to vacation. The sleeping arrangements allow for three adult couples to have their own private bedroom and allow the kids to enjoy bunking together or separately. The multiple living spaces allow for varying interests and activity levels to be enjoyed all at the same time.
Picture this real-life scenario: a group of adults and kids are playing an intense game of Scrabble on the main level, kids aged 8-14 are competing to win the latest Game Cube game downstairs, a few adults are sipping coffee and reading on the spacious deck, a teenager sleeps in late in a private bedroom upstairs, and a group of kids with endless energy are jumping off the dock and swimming in the safety of the cove!
The double boathouse and dock has one free covered boat slip (one is used by the owners), plus spaces to tie up two boats, deep water, a bar with roll-up door, and a large dock for sunning. Bring a bucket of refreshments and a boom box down to the dock and it's five o'clock somewhere! Hop in your boat and at the end of the cove is Great Creek - fantastic for hours of water skiing, wakeboarding, knee-boarding, or tubing.
Great Creek is minutes from the main lake - close enough to enjoy, but far enough that it doesn't interfere with the peace and safety of Great Creek! You will see an endless parade of wildlife off your dock - Great Blue Heron (the inspiration for the name of the home), egrets, Canadian geese, ducks, turtles, frogs, fish jumping, and if you're really lucky, you may even catch a glimpse of the resident beaver!

The Unique Benefits at this House
Meandering for 35 miles along the North Carolina/Virginia border with over 350 miles of shoreline, Lake Gaston is within a short drive of Richmond, Tidewater, Raleigh, and Durham. Located between Kerr Dam and Gaston Dam, the lake is tended very carefully, so the water quality is excellent, the water level is always within 1 foot of normal, and it is regularly stocked with fish. The sparkling green waters provide an abundance of treasures that are enjoyed by lake enthusiasts -- fishing, boating, swimming, water skiing, jet skiing and just relaxing.

Our two families have spent countless wonderful weekends at the lake tubing and waterskiing, wakeboarding and kayaking, and having spirited family basketball games in the driveway. We've had a lot of fun adding to this wonderful house - wainscoting, beaded ceilings, crown molding, plastering the walls, building the boathouse. The home is comfortable and well maintained. The location was nice - in a cove with easy access to the main lake and a nearby marina. The covered dock was nice for the family to relax on while the kids played in the water. The shaded lot helped to keep us cool. Nice place to get away and relax.
Recommended for:Pet owners, families with young children, families with teenagers.
