The White Deer Ranch was the perfect place for our party of 6 adults and 7 children to ring in the New Year. The accommodations were perfect - it had a fully stocked kitchen large enough to seat all of us. Everyone had a bed to sleep in, and it was so nice to have a full bathroom on each floor. Roxanne's directions to the Ranch were perfect and easy to follow. The property was very clean - the Christmas lights were even turned on for our arrival, which was a nice, welcoming touch. Booking the Ranch was easy and Roxanne was very helpful in answering my questions - she even sent me information on area happenings for the New Year. We wished there had been snow for sledding as there are several great hills nearby, but we had a great time walking around the property. The kids loved the creek and tire swing! The property is beautiful and the views are amazing - I would definitely recommend this Ranch for your next gathering!

Our family spent Christmas at the White Deer Ranch. The cabin was great! The views were breathtaking and the cabin was large enough to accommodate our family with room for privacy and a chance to be apart. Roxanne even decorated for Christmas! It was very cozy and comfortable. They allowed us to have our dogs, which was important to us. We had Christmas dinner at the cabin and we found the kitchen to be functional, spacious, and well equipped. The owners were available for support if needed, but left us alone to enjoy our family-time together. I would definitely recommend this cabin for a large group of people.

We had a great, great time during our family Christmas in the cabin! Starting with the welcome, hand written note and fresh honey to the walks and sledding. We are ALL anticipating our next stay there. It was just perfect in every way. thank you, thank you! Faith

We stayed at White Deer Ranch with our extended family. Our four couples with a total of 5 kids slept comfortably in the cabin. There was plenty of space for each family to have some privacy if needed. The cabin is unquestionably clean and surprisingly well-stocked. My advice, don't buy anything before you get there. Absarokee and Fishtail are near enough and the grocery stores there can take care of your needs at reasonable prices. Also, you may be surprised to see the spices and other supplies that are already in the kitchen. This year, my kids (ages 12 and 6) have been to Maui, China, South Korea, Kiawah Island and White Deer Ranch. Without hesitation they say that White Deer Ranch was their favorite. We even had "no television" rule and they never felt bored. The kids found their own entertainment all week long without any difficulty. The lake, cats and goats were more than enough. Add in two AMAZING dogs who never get tired and there was almost too much for them to choose from. Roxanne and Lee are wonderful hosts--quietly available to help make your vacation run smoothly. A quiet cabin vacation with as much adventure as you care to add.

This is a gorgeous ranch property representative of the best of Montana; particularly idyllic venue for sitting on the deck daydreaming, letting go of modern life's stress, and for city kids to run free and explore the great outdoors. The home itself has all the amenities needed for comfort. We were four adults and for young children under six, with plenty of room to spare, and the property offers enough variety that we didn't need to leave it for anything. But if you want to, the area also has several fun little towns to explore and experience historical small town America, and awesome opportunities for any level of hiking. We look forward to re-visiting this ranch many more times.

We were so fortunate to be able to experience the White Deer Ranch this summer. We traveled from Denver to the ranch in July and spent the week doing exactly what we wanted to do! Fishing in the morning guaranteed an awesome catch. Quiet and relaxing on the deck in the afternoon and around a campfire in the evening, the trip could not have been better. The ranch was close to many different trails for day hikes and Red Lodge provided an interesting and fun day of shopping and a few breweries to top it off. The cabin was equipped with absolutely everything you could want or need for your vacation. Roxanne and Lee were the best - THANK YOU! Without a doubt, we will be back!

This was our Yellowstone vacation. We started at Fishtail, and it ended up being one of our favorite parts of the trip. I love the area there is so much to do..we regret not staying longer. The stocked pond was a favorite with my husband he caught 18 out of 28 he had on... all nice size 17 to 20 inches. The cabin was beautiful, very very clean, beds were comfy and it was very well lstocked..even a waffle maker the kids loved it! We got a chance to talk to the Dunns, they were very friendly and accommodating..even invited us for their family fireworks on the fourth... we had a nice surprise on our arrival honey from their bee hives on the property...Roxanne also told us about the falls that were well worth the hike! They even had all the area attractions on a GPS at the house for us to use. Great place, We could live there!

We loved our stay at the White Deer Ranch. Even before we arrived Roxanne answered all the questions of our children and helped with ideas on how to get a handicapped person in the house. The house was clean and comfortable. We had 11 people in our group and had MORE than enough room so everyone was comfortable. (Everyone had their own bed thanks to the air mattresses). The lake was beautiful with great fishing. (One thing we found was the local stores had very FEW fishing supplies.) The kids put a small raft in the lake and loved rowing around. Next time we would bring a canopy to the lake for shade. The children (teens to five years) loved using innertubes in the pond outside of the house. Roxanne was generous in sharing her animals (goat, chicks, and dogs) with children. It was great to have easy access to a laundry machine. The kitchen had everything needed and more. The "bone-yard" was a nice little walk and we saw lots of cool gadgets. The fresh honey waiting for our arrival was a very hospitable touch. Things we would do again would include shopping in Billings, because the close little towns prices were high. It was very helpful to have the GPS in the house to take us to hiking locations. We had a fabulous trip, were treated like royalty and will be back in the future.

My wife and I have traveled all over the US and we both unanimously agreed that this was by far the best vacation we've ever been on! The cabin is absolutely perfect inside and out. It was extremely clean, spacious and fully stocked with everything you could possibly need. Inside and outside the views of the Beartooth Mountains are breathtaking! Fishing was great as well at the lake which is just a short walk from the cabin. In 3 days of fishing we caught a dozen cutthroat trout just using a spoon bait from off the dock! We also enjoyed hiking through the valleys and sitting by the campfire outside. We can't wait to come back next year! Thank you again Roxanne and Lee! Adam+Katie

Roxanne provided extra air beds, we brought more and there would still have been lots of space for additional sleeping spots. One semi-finished basement room was not even mentioned but worked well as a "man-cave" for the young men in party. Couch was sleepable also. 3 recliners. And the kitchen!! it was better equipped than any full-time home I know. There were heavy duty mixers, 2 kinds of waffle irons, all types of pots, pans, bowls (including, of course, sufficient size for large groups), spices, baggies, etc. About the only kitchen things we wished we'd brought were medium/small containers for taking left overs home. There were a couple medium-sized folding tables; one of which we used to extend the large dining room table sufficient for our 16 to eat at "one" table. However, we were glad we'd brought a card table and 4 chairs; we needed the chairs for our extended table. There was plenty of room for our card table for puzzles, small group card-playing. Volleyball equipment & net, hundreds of movies, lots of board games, tire swing over the creek, walks on the open, rolling plains to the fishing lake (some simple fishing poles, etc. available) and with great views of mountains from balcony and everywhere. We were all adults but would also be great place for plenty of kids to do.
Owner response:Thanks so much for your review. You had such a great group of people and it was so wonderful to have you. Great idea about the folding card table. I'll bet others would get lots of use out of that. Please come back any time!! Lee and Roxanne

Roxanne made our Christmas at White Deer Ranch a Christmas that we all will never forget. The log house was beautifully decorated, the rooms very clean and pleasant. We found the kitchen extremely well equipped, making it easy to cook in a strange kitchen. The surroundings were remarkable for Christmas, with the lake near by to walk to, the snow on which we found small and large animal tracks. The bed sheets were fuzzy and warm, so we all slept well away from home. Thank you Dunns for a remarkable stay.
Owner response:So glad you enjoyed yourselves and to hear you enjoyed the winter wonders at the Ranch. Our home is your home whenever you decide to make a get-away again! Happy New Year!

The cabin was beautiful and had plenty of room for all of us, 6 adults and 3 kids and our dog! The views are amazing and we hope to come back next year. WIsh the lake was closer and had a beach area, maybe more seating in the living room area but no other complaints! We loved sitting next to the creek and out on the deck to watch the sunset and stars.

This was perfect for our annual trip to Montana. We stayed here with my parents, and my son's family (11 of us total). Its a nice quite place with a lot of space. We enjoyed catching some very large cutthroat trout in the 11 acre lake - all over 20 inches. It is close to both the places we like to fish on the Stlilwater river and West Rosebud creek.

My experience here was amazing and restorative. The property itself it beautiful and expansive. The home I stayed in was an impeccably modern and comfortable home, with every convenience on hand: a full, beautiful kitchen, cozy fireplace (though I didn't have the chance to sit by it in August), dreamily comfortable beds, a panoramic window that overlooks the creek running through the property (a nearby tree equipped with tire swing), and onto the mountains in the distance. One of the best moments was sipping coffee on the wraparound deck in the morning and just admiring those mountains. The original homestead house, also on the property, has over the years been modified and updated with equally modern conveniences, but maintains a uniquely quaint and historical charm. About a quarter mile towards the mountains is a lovely lake for swimming, or or sunning by and reading on a hot summer day, or even fishing a little. There is ample opportunity to explore the areas all around the house, and there is also a small mountain town nearby, with The Cowboy Bar & Supper Club for food and drinks. A short drive away and you are in the mountains for hiking. In the prime time in August, when I was there, the trails we hiked were stunningly beautiful and practically vacant; I think we only passed 3 or 4 other hikers. Rivers, waterfalls and wildlife, the views were really spectacular. I look forward to going back and exploring the surrounding nature further. Overall, my experience was phenomenal. My hosts could not have been more generous or knowledgeable about the land and the history. It was relaxing and rejuvenating, and I would recommend this haven of a vacation rental to everyone. I have every intention of returning next summer to experience it again.

This place is perfect! Great large, open space for communal times like meals or playing games. At the same time each of us had our own bedroom to escape to in the evenings for some shut eye and privacy. The grill was perfect for meal preparation. The location was ideal, fishing the Stillwater was a snap and at the same time we felt as if we we were in the middle of no where. We will visit this place again.

We only wish we would have booked the cabin for more days, because there was so much to do there...Thanks for the good time The Jones's

Great property! We have a large family and the property was spacious and relaxing. Wonderful layout with all of the bedrooms, great for the kids downstairs. Nice sized kitchen and amenities. From wireless to sattelite t.v., there was plenty to keep everyone occupied. The view of the mountains in the morning out the living room was incredible. Hiked several areas around the property from the old abandoned homestead to the canyons to the lake areas with lots of photo ops. We also did day trips to Red Lodge and Yellowstone. The drive to Yellowstone over the Beartooth Pass was incredible, although we did have to wait for them to clear the snow and this was June 15th! The Absaroka wilderness and surrounding Custer National Forest area was actually as impressive as Yellowstone with miles of scenic trails with no crowds whatsoever. We particularly liked the hike up to Woodbine Falls. The town of Fishtail is quaint and friendly as was Red Lodge with some nice shops. The rolling hills of all the nearby ranches were also very scenic with their free ranging sheep and cattle. All in all just a wonderful experience and property. We liked the privacy and remoteness and just space for the kids and our dog to roam. Would definetly reccomend this property to anyone looking for space and luxury. A four-wheel drive is probably a neceesity in the rainy season as the clay on the long driveway and navigating out to the lake can get a little slick. The long curving driveway though gives you some great lines for some scenic photos. You can see some of the photos we took on their website, which show the beauty of the ranch and the surrounding area.
Owner response:Thanks very much Kevin for your review. You and your family were wonderful guests. Your photos really captured the place and we love them. Please come back and see us any time! Roxanne & Lee Dunn and Family

We went in early June and the cabin was awesome! It had everything we needed and more. The atmosphere of the cabin itself was relaxing. There was plenty of space inside, everything fit together well. The deck is a great feature especially at sunrise and sunset!!! A large yard in the back and to the south gave us ample room to play around and stretch our legs. The nearby lake was a quick and suitable mini-getaway. It was a weekend my friends and I will always remember! We will defiantly try to get back and do it again!!!

We always enjoy our time at the Ranch, as we used to live there and it is always like coming home. Our visit in October as guests this time was very relaxing and a much needed family get-away. We enjoyed family dinners in the big kitchen and sleeping in on the comfortable beds. We recommend Fall because the temperature is very comfortable and the air smells great.
