The “BIG HOUSE” as we refer to it, is located on the Island of Hatteras, in the remote Outer Banks coastal region of North Carolina. Perfect stay for the Layed Back Vacationer, Couples traveling alone or with friends and small families. Friday turnover day, allows traveling with ease.

Nestled in the historic village of Kinnakeet, this owner managed home, among its’ unusual setting of flower beds, veggie gardens, bird feeders and great collection of eclectic yard art, offers a true escape.

Don’t let the quirky character or the GREAT PRICE fool you, the Big House has every modern amenity. Three large bedrooms, full kitchen, two full baths and private outdoor shower with ½ bath area and views of its' own, will ensure you have a comfortable stay. For amazing views and memorable sunsets, step out onto the top deck that overlooks acres of undeveloped marsh land and the Pamlico Sound. We have a sunning deck and for escaping with a summer read, retreat to the deck nestled among the tree tops of our live oaks. In the heat of the day relax on the lower screened-in porch, in a hammock built for two.

For venturing out enjoy the use of our beach cruiser bicycles for a walk on the Avon Pier or the island’s beautiful Atlantic beaches. Walk or ride to a variety of local restaurants and shops. Really feeling adventurous, visit the historic Cape Hatters Lighthouse, take a (free) ferry boat to Ocracoke Island or give some of the areas water sports a try.

  • My husband and I have been vacationing throughout various parts of the Outer Banks for roughly 12 years and just returned from our stay at "The Big House." Needless to say, this was by far our favorite accomodations in all those years. The house is awesome, clean and well kept, and the view of the sound and sunsets are absolutely magnificent. You are minutes to the beaches and can walk or bike to the shops and retaurants...and fishing. Bottomline, we come to OBX every year and plan on staying exclusivly at the "Big House" as long as they will have us. This place is a hidden gem.
