This post and beam home was built as a carriage house in 1820, converted to a home in 1880, and completely renovated in 2003. It has great views of the Contoocook River from both levels. Downstairs, the fully equipped kitchen has custom cherry cabinets and an island with a granite countertop. The kitchen is open to dining and living areas to accommodate relaxation and entertainment.
Two bedrooms and a bath with clawfoot tub/shower complete the main floor. Upstairs, the study offers quiet space for work or reading, while the loft provides a second living space, with a gas fireplace and futon to accommodate two additional guests. A third bedrooom and second bath with spacious corner shower complete the upper level.
Pull up a lawn chair and watch the river or walk around the corner to the village coffee shop, pharmacy, restaurants, and shops. If you want to be more active, it's five minutes to Pat's Peak Ski Area and twenty minutes to Lake Sunapee.
Plentiful biking and hiking trails are nearby, and there are numerous lakes, parks, and historic sites to explore within a 30-mile radius. If you want to day-trip, it's 1 1/2 hours to the White Mountains, Vermont, Maine or New Hampshire coasts, or Boston.

Why the Owner Chose Henniker
This home has been in my husband's family since the 1950's and we inherited it in 1997. Both of our adult children have lived here for periods of time, and we enjoy getting away to New Hampshire when we can. Since we're both working right now and our children have moved on with their lives away from New Hampshire, we've decided to share our Henniker haven with others through VRBO.
The Unique Benefits of this House
We love being able to see and hear the river, and it's fun watching all the others who bike and walk by the house as they enjoy the river as well. We also really like being able to walk downtown (one block) and just enjoy small town life -- especially in the summer time, with the Farmer's Market and evening concerts in the square. Another thing we really enjoy is meandering the country roads on bike or by car, enjoying the scenery and New England architecture.
