Home itself looks very old … because it is. It was originally built in 1865. But inside it is very convenient and has been updated with lots of nice features. Most of the doors are very low, however, so watch your head! • Remodeled, updated bathroom with walk-in, glassed shower • Modern gas stove and dishwasher • Modern top and bottom washer and dryer that works great • Big screen TV. Lots of local stations plus more (ESPN, weather channel) even though not all of the cable stations. • Convenient work space and desk near front for using a computer; good internet connection • Comfortable deck and outdoor seating area in back near grill with a hammock. Gas grill works great. We used it a number of times. • Kiva fireplace is available with plenty of firewood but we never needed to use it. Unit stayed very comfortable. We didn’t have many requests at all of the owner, Matt, but he was very responsive when we did have a question or needed something. He owns the Range Café right across the street from the unit. This unit was very comfortable for us during our stay and the price is extremely reasonable. We definitely recommend it

Unit allows dogs. We found a nice dog park - North Domingo Baca dog park . • 10 miles south on I-25. Exit at Alameda (#233). • Just east (mountain side) of I-25 between Alameda and Paseo del Norte Albuquerque Sunport airport • Unit is about 20 miles north of the airport, all on I-25 • Traffic getting to airport on I-25 was pretty good for us, even early on a Monday morning • There are two Railrunner commuter train stops in Bernalillo – one less than a half mile away and the other about a mile and half o If your flight doesn’t leave until after 9:30AM or so, you can take the train to the airport instead of driving. Costs only $3 each way and there is a free shuttle from the train station in Albuquerque to the airport. Unit is about 20 miles from downtown Albuquerque and Old Town. Bernalillo is quite old and not modern, or high income by any means. But it is a quiet and safe area and very conveniently located between Albuquerque and Santa Fe. It has quick, easy access to I-25. Small grocery and hardware stores are very nearby – just across the street. US550 is a mile and half north. Lots of fast food places. Then if you go west on 550 and turn south on US528 (Pat D’Arco Hwy), there are more fast food places, Home Depot, Albertson’s etc. • We preferred the Smith’s grocery store near the Domingo Baca Dog park. It seems less expensive and has a lot of selection. We combined our grocery shopping with trips to the dog park. More information about the house itself is included in a following review.

My husband and I stayed at the casita for a month and couldn't have been more pleased with the accommodations. The casita was charming and cozy; the bed was especially comfortable. The kitchen appliances were first rate. Since I love to cook, this was a real plus! The location was ideal for us as we used the train nearby to travel to Santa Fe and Albuquerque. Matt was most accommodating responding quickly to any request. We entertained guests and enjoyed the kiva fireplace. All in all, it was a most delightful stay which we look forward to repeating.

We loved our stay here in this comfortable and convenient casita. Everything we needed was included and we found it easy to care for and relaxing. The owners were always responsive to any questions or needs and made us feel at home right away. They even decorated for Christmas! The art work was interesting and decor appropriate. It was a very enjoyable stay. Bernalillo is perfect for a month long stay because it is close to the freeway and you can get to anywhere in the area easily. The Range Cafe is right across the street and has excellent food and service.

I was very disappointed in the place, beacuse it wasen't clean the floors were so dirty and the counter tops in the kitchen was awfull. I got there and was very tired but to my fright the next morning I relized the sheets had not been changed .The dust was so bad I had to do the cleaning. Its a very old area on a back alley of an old street. The floors are uneven to walk on. The owner is very nice about everything and took care of what I owed. Would I go back again not there.

Owner response: I expected this level of review from this person. I wish there was a way for us owners to review the people that stay with us. Suffice it to say, please regard this review with a grain of salt. In 4 years of guests staying with us we have not had one shred of a negative review on our casita. In this instance, no comments were made during a three week stay until the very end when payment was trying to be avoided. Had these issues been brought up at the beginning then every attempt would have been made to correct any problem. As it turned out, the accusations of a filthy place were highly exaggerated. There is a reason that we get numerous repeat guests at our casita. I stand by our amenities and the cleanliness of our accommodations. Thank you.

Just perfect! Very comfortable home. The home was well equipped --from soap and towels to coffee and cream in refrigerator. The pictures on the internet were very helpful. There was a book explaining many items in the home, however, Matt was on site to help me get familiar with things. This home is very convenient to many interesting sites and of course, a great restaurant "The Range" just across the street! Thank you for my perfect vacation!

The pictures really don't do justice to this little home. The house has been refurbished and redecorated quite nicely. As you pass through the front door, you enter a foyer, wide instead of long. To your left is the laundry room, and to your right is a desk with a printer and a day bed. Open the shutters and light streams in strongly. Then the kitchen is on the left and the den is on the right. The kitchen is well-appointed and the den has a nice sectional couch perfect for a nap or TV watching. The bedroom has an extremely comfortable king bed. The bathroom has a shower and tub. The house is not large, but I didn't feel cramped. I would describe the place as cozy, great for a couple. Also, you don't park on the street but in front of the house. Bernalillo is a northern suburb of Albuquerque, right off the freeway. To get to Albuquerque proper can take 10 to 35 minutes depending on where you are going. This may sound long, but many places in Albuquerque get crowded at rush hour, and this is a more leisurely commute. The place is quite close to the tram up to the mountain. If you are a walker or hiker or biker this is a great place. There are trails in the foothills and trails along the river, or trails along the irrigation canals, which in places have a certain charm. There are also moderate or taxing hikes up the mountain, or hikes along the crest where it is cooler and flatter. On my last hike, 15 minutes from ABQ I encountered a young black bear who respectfully high-tailed it out when he heard my loud voice. How cool is that! There is also a train that stops in Bernalillo and runs up to Santa Fe or down to Albuquerque. It is within a couple of miles from the house. The university is also quite pretty. The owner is very responsive and always picked up his phone, instead of letting it go to voicemail.

My wife and I had a wonderful time at Casa de Pancho. We found it to be in excellent condition, fully furnished, tastily appointed, conveniently located and in a quiet neighborhood. Kudos to Matt!

About the owner: Your hosts are Matt and Lou. We've traveled all over the world and know what makes a comfortable place to stay.

                          Why the Owner Chose Bernalillo:
We loved the house and knew it would make a great place for out of town guests to stay. It took over a year and a lot of work to restore the original charm of this comfortable house. We live and work in the area and think it has a lot to offer someone who wants the comfort of a nice hotel, but the charm of a house.

The Unique Benefits at this House:
We love the quiet and comfort of the home and enjoy spending time there when it is available. Bernalillo is a town with a lot of history. We have lived in the area since 1986 and believe it is a great place to stay while discovering New Mexico.
