Welcome to Lake Retreat, it is more than just a vacation home. Lake Retreat is a peaceful, quiet escape from the hectic pace so many of us live.
This 4 bedroom, 2 full and 1 half baths home offers 2,000 sq ft of living space. Located on a waterfront lot with 1.25 acres full of blooming shrubbery and large oak trees, nature and wildlife are at your doorstep. A short walk from the back deck down a mild slope to the water reveals a natural brown sand beach and two private docks for your use nestled back in a cove. There is a sandbox near the natural sand beach for little children. You and your children can enjoy swimming in the cove and feel perfectly safe from boat traffic and waves. The old and the new docks provide ample docking space for your boats. The new dock has electricity. There is plenty of parking for cars and boat trailers on the lot.

We had a wonderful vacation. The grand kids loved the lake and it was perfect for young children. We had a fantastic week everyone had a great time. The only complaint we had was the sofa beds in the basement. They were not comfortable. But everything else was great. The other bedrooms were very nice. We would certainly stay here again.Recommended for: Sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car.
Owner response: We plan to replace the sofa bed with another bed at the end of this rental season.

We had a very relaxing time at the house. Such a quiet, peaceful setting in a wooded area with deer around. Very nice dock. It was fun playing some air hockey and ping pong. The house was clean and as described. The weather was great during our stay but our time was too short there. The Virginia Dare was a nice boat ride for my parents.Recommended for: Sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children.

My family and I were able to come and stay for the first time at Smith Mountain Lake. We loved the house, very nice and well equipped. Great having the boat dock as we rented a pontoon and had a blast. The owners were very friendly and helpful in guiding us where to get a boat and with info. My husband got lost trying to get back with the boat and called and the owner lead him right to the house. We really enojed your home and was very comfortable. Having the grill was also great. The basement was great, as we loved having the ping pong table. Was nice having the washer and dryer down there whre we didn't have to listen to it. Also this home was pet friendly you could not tell there had ever been any there, which was very nice! Our children had a blast and our 4 year old can't wait to come back. Thank you for sharing your home with us and we are looking forward to seeing you in 2012!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, adventure seekers.

Please note that this submission is to make a rating correction due to a typing error by Memaw Sharon in the first review. This mini vacation was certainly too short for spending time on SML at the home of Karen and Warren. We loved the location of their home; the privacy on the decks, yard and docks. So much space for our family to enjoy the bright sunny days outside. The location on the Lake was just perfect for us to quickly make it to our favorite fishing spots. It was too chilly to swim and the fishing was not very good due to a front that came through. But, we definitely look forward to returning again and enjoy many hours in the water and on the docks with our family. We have been coming to SML since 1987. The kitchen in this home is the absolute "BEST" stocked kitchen I have ever seen. Plenty of dishes and just about anything you would need to prepare meals for your family. The bedrooms were spaceous and the beds very comfortable. The house is layed out so you have plenty of space for a large family. The house was very clean and was exactly as it was described in VRBO. We all loved playing pingpong ball and air hockey in the basement. Karen's beautiful needlepoint artwork gave the home a personal touch. TV reception was fine for the amount of time we spent inside. We loved the closeness to several small shops; ice cream; pizza; Chinese, Mexican and Italian restaurants. Loved the drive-in theater and dining in a silver bus, ice cream shop theme restaurant. We definitely hope to return very soon to this vacation home and make more memories for our children and grandchildren at the Theis home on SML.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, families with young children.
Owner response: The words in the review did not justify the low star rating and a correction in the star rating was accomplished by our customer.

We were only able to stay a few days but it was great. We had the cove all to ourselves due to the time of our visit. We aren't boaters but we love the water and my teenage boys had a blast jumping off the dock. And the sandy beach was a definite bonus. Only "problem" was the TV. I don't blame the owner for not buying satellite. We weren't at the lake to watch television anyway. But I would say the living/family room needs to be redesigned. Just moving the furniture around would make it better to watch a movie and/or tv. Agree with other reviewer that I can't imagine putting guests in the basement. BUT it was wonderful! Would love to go back for a longer period.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, pet owners, families with young children, girls getaway.

This home provided a great place for a few of our family members from around the country to get together and celebrate our daughters graduation at a nearby university. Everything was in excellent working order and the seclusion was relaxing. We would do it again in a heart beat.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, age 55+, girls getaway.

My boyfriend and our 5 friends spent a fantastic long weekend at this house. The property is beautiful, quiet, and relaxing. The 2 docks were perfect for laying out, having cocktails, fishing, and watching our dogs enjoy the water! The deck was large enough for all of us to eat outside and enjoy cocktails. The house was clean and the kitchen had all of the amenities we could have asked for, and my boyfriend and I are cooking fanatics! The house could use some updating, but no major issues. The only other drawback was the basement. We felt a bit bad about someone in our group having to stay down there, as it is an unfinished basement and very cold! However, our friend did not mind too much, and said that the futon was very comfortable. The bathroom down there was a plus as well, and we all enjoyed playing ping pong. Our long weekend was filled with memories in the making. We had a great time. I would definitely return to this house, but with only 6 adults, as I wouldn't want anyone to get the short end of the stick and not have a bedroom upstairs. The basement would probably be fine for kids, though! We rented a pontoon boat at the state park, which was only about a 10 minute drive from the house. I would love to check out some of the nearby wineries and restaurants when I have the opportunity to go back to Smith Mountain Lake. The owners were incredibly accomodating and quick to answer any questions I had about the house leading up to our trip. Overall, a pretty amazing weekend!Recommended for: Pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: The walkout basementI is described as unfinished in all of my advertisements. I will adjust the central air conditioning ducts downstairs to re-route the cold air upstairs, it's very easy to do.

The vacation home located on Retreat Lane in a quiet cove of Smith Mountain Lake offered us a wonderful opportunity to relax and enjoy a clean and beautiful environment. We found this good-value rental to be much nicer than pictured on the VRBO site. The place was immaculate and everything was in good repair. The owners were most accommodating in answering our questions and in working with our tight schedule. We particularly enjoyed the boat dock and the wide wood deck that runs down one side of the home and all the way across the back. The home is situated on a large lot with native landscaping and tall oaks that provide privacy. Visitors will not be disappointed in what this vacation rental has to offer. --Jim and Karen Fields, Barboursville, West Virginia, September, 2009.Did you find this review helpful? We stayed at this house for a long weekend. It was wonderfuly. The owner was more than accommadating with all that we needed. My older son is in a wheelchair and the owner made sure there was a ramp to the house for easy access and that the bathroom ould work prior to our arrival. The lake iw wonderful and the house and grounds are great.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2
