Christmas Available - Walk to the Slope - Elegant Retreat

Our home is perfect for a large family just as we have, and makes it perfect for everyone to head to the slopes at their leisure in the morning, return home for lunch or a break, and everyone can call it a day when they want as it is just a short easy walk to and from the slope. This precludes a transport car and driver toting skiers all day back and forth from the slope! Roads are cleared daily, and you are at the lower elevation of the mountain so just a short drive to the store or resort base. Angel Fire is a great all family ski resort with a renowned ski school program for all ages, snowboarding, snowmobiling, cross country skiing, sledding, mountain tubing (they have a great tubing run by the beginner slope), and great place to take horse drawn sleigh rides!
The summers offer magnificent hiking (again a short walk to slope where you can take lift to summit to hike down). Angel Fire Resort is known for its great Golf Course, and its pro lessons. Kids have a great time at Val Verde lake on paddle boats, fishing, or just playing on the community newly designed playground. There is nothing more beautiful than riding horses in the National Forest! We also love going ATV riding in the national forest where the views will take your breath away. Hey I love to just grab my book and enjoy either one of our two decks. Both are equipped with tables and chairs, rockers, as well as propane heaters, and one also has a propane grill for wonderful cooking opportunities. We have had some of the most beautiful wildlife right in our back yard area as well as wonderful birds to watch and feed.
We normally group together in the evening cook and enjoy a movie or play a game or a bit of poker! The kids like to take Gran and Granddad's money at that game! You can order from local restaurants as well and pick up to make it easy. Dudley at Valley Market does a mean Bar BQ and that is a meal you do not want to miss.
Santa Fe is an easy drive and we do it in the summer just for the day just for a bit of shopping or to enjoy a great Santa Fe meal! Santa Fe Flea Market is a must. Taos is much closer and no matter what season, we venture to Taos for both shopping and eating!

This home was like staying at a close friend's house. It did not feel like a rental at all. Every room is immaculate and luxurious. We had 10 people; 4 adults, 6 kids/teens, in the house. You can walk a few steps up the street to get to the slopes. Very nice. The owner went overboard to make sure we were taken care of. There was plenty of room to spread out and enjoy ourselves. The kitchen is big with a dining table that fit us all. Every possible kitchen amenity is available from utensils to crock pot to bread machine. The only MINOR disappointment was the age of the oven, but it got the job done. We hope to visit again very soon. Thank you Cheri for a wonderful visit in your lovely home!Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, age 55+, sightseeing.
Owner response: Amber, we are thrilled you and your family had a great ski vacation. We look forward to you choosing our home again. Thank you for your kind comments, and please let me know when we can welcome you again.

My family and I have stayed at Pelican House several times in the past several years and enjoyed every day of every visit. What are the best attributes: first, you can not beat the convinience to the ski slopes for the first run or when we come back to the house for lunch; second, the pleasent decor and home like feel and our children really love the unique loft where they can enjoy privacy when playing games or watching videos; third, the house has all ammenities to prepare fine meals, entertain, and to relax (nice hot tub). Our family agrees, we award five stars and plan to visit again. Sincerely, Andrew C. & FamilyDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We rented this property over Spring Break 2010. Angel Fire was a great place for a family ski trip. The house is a short walk to the slopes. I am sure it is great in the Summer as well. We had two families with 4 adults and 5 children. The house is very nice, makes you feel at home. We really had a great time due in large part to having such a great place to stay. The house is very nicely furnished and comfortable. The kitchen is fully stocked. The views are spectacular from the decks. The property owners were excellent to work with and the local manager was very helpful. We highly recommend this property. Steve, Tulsa, OK.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, girls getaway, families with young children, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, sightseeing.
Owner response: Steve, Thanks for the great review. Hope this finds you and your family doing well. Remember us next time you want to ski in Angel Fire. You are right the summers are amazing. You all might think about trying it some time. Cheri

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2003
About the owner: We live in Seabrook, Texas on the Gulf Coast and purchased this home for fun family ski vacations and a place to retreat when Texas heat gets too unbearable in the summer. We have been traveling a great deal the last year or so and not using the home as much as we would like. This is why we have decided to open it to rentals. We have made this a home away from home, and filled it with wonderful treasures of travels and the New Mexico area. Look below for Link to our Home's Website! Will give you more photos and information.
Why the Owner Chose Angel Fire:
Originally we were going to purchase a home in Vail, Breckenridge or somewhere in Colorado, but realized that this would require our kids and guests to fly to visit. Angel Fire is also a small family community, and our kids and grandkids have enjoyed it thoroughly. Ski lines are not that of Colorado ski resorts and the lift fees are most reasonable as are the rentals. Ski school is one of the best in the country!!!
The newly completed Country Club has something for everyone! Summer activities include First Rate Golf Course, biking, hiking, atv riding, tennis and much more. The food and bar at the Country Club are both beautiful and delicious! They always have special events which are opened to the public which gives you a wonderful social outlet in the evening! The Pro shop is great and they have a wonderful golf pro for lessons!
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Angel Fire is driving distance from Houston as well as easy for guests to come to via airlines. Angel Fire's proximity is close to a number of wonderful other cities i.e. Taos, Red River, Santa Fe. The skiing programs and the mountain itself is perfect for family participation of all ages. We can walk to the slope easily -no designated driver to pick-up and drop off skiers all day, and with children and teenagers that can be a full time job. Snowboarding is big with our grandkids and Angel Fire not only promotes this sport but offers wonderful lessons for young and old. While being so close to the the slope our home also offers privacy and a wonderful view off the back decks. It is very warm and cozy as well. Many areas for adults and kids to enjoy themselves together or have their own space. Kids can use sleds down back of house or build a snowman; both right within parents easy supervision. The hot tub on the back of the house is very private and one will almost always catch the wildlife walking by. It is tucked under the deck, and they do not seem to realize you are there unless you alert them. Great Fun!
