This apartment is in a brownstone just down the street from the Cathedral Basilica of Saint Louis which is not to be missed. It's very near the wonderful Missouri Botanical Gardens and many other terrific sights in St. Louis. It's very centrally located so it doesn't take long to get anywhere. The apartment is very tastefully decorated. The owner has included many extras like a computer and printer and a great shower-head in the bathroom with thick towels and wonderful linens. The beds are great as well. She also included fresh-ground coffee for us. My only complaint (and it's a big one) is the noise!!! The apartment is on the ground floor and very close the front door of the building and people are constantly coming and going and unfortunately the front door slams very loudly each time it closes which awakened us each time someone came through. The streets are also very busy and there are two bus stops right on the corner and we could hear their air-brakes constantly and people's music blaring while they were stopped at the light. So bring your earplugs!Recommended for: People with disabilities, age 55+, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: We usually don't respond publicly to reviews, as we prefer to let our guests have the final word. We thank this guest for all of her kind words! However, we must point out two things: Had we known, we could have adjusted the closing mechanism on the building's front door. In fact, this already has been done, as this lovely guest told us in a private email after she left that this had bothered her. If only we knew, we could have taken care of this right away. As we tell each and every one of our guests, if there are any noise or maintenance issues, please contact us immediately. We are not mind readers. We cannot fix what we don't know about. Second, a gentle correction: The Fremont (home to the Jessie Benton Suite) is not a brownstone, but a seven-story high-rise apartment building. No question: The "Jessie" sits on the corner of one of the most urban intersections in the entire metropolitan area. If being in the middle of city life is not something that appeals to you, please look elsewhere.

My husband and I arrived and were greeted immediately by the friendly Karen. The apartment was the perfect size for two, and we felt like we were at home right away. We set out in the neighborhood and found most things we needed were within walking distance. The parking was super convenient, and we had all of the amenities we needed. We cooked dinner in the kitchen both nights and had all of the bowls, pans and utensils we needed to make a feast. The place was charming and had THE BEST bed ever. The neighbors can be a little bit noisy in the hallway- so bring earplugs if you plan to sleep in! We had no issues with the space at all. It's old, it's charming, it's got character-but also a HUGE TV and comfy couch. You'll wish your home was so cozy.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway.

We spent a long weekend here. It was convenient to our daughter's apartment, and we enjoyed the well-appointed suite. There were lovely snacks and coffee provided that were chosen for us. We had a small blip in our stay, but the hostess took care of it in a generous way. This is a great value; much better than staying in a hotel. The suite was well-maintained, clean and the pictures are accurate. It is right off the lobby, so if you are a light sleeper, you may want to choose another space. I would recommend this to my friends.Recommended for: People with disabilities, age 55+, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Great apartment that's close to attractions, highways, stores and our sons! We came up to be with our sons and families for Christmas & loved the apartment! Karen met us & was so kind in having everything ready for our stay. It was wonderful to come back in the evenings after being on the go for most of the day and relax in a cozy, warm 'home'. The beds are the most comfortable we have ever slept on & are actually looking into purchasing one after inquiring about them from Karen! There is no doubt we will be back!!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My wife and I spent 3 nights and were very happy with our stay. We walked every place we wanted to see in Central West. It was great to immerse in the neighborhood and branch out from the Jessie. Foodie restaurants, Scottish Rite and Salt were blocks away, movie lovers can and must take the longer walk to the Moolah (Loved it!) Apt was well stocked with tons of extra touches, snacks and drinks. Bed was very comfortable. We meet Karen at check in and her energy was intoxicating, she was very helpful getting settled with plenty of tips on places to check out. We just scratched the surface on our stay and had a blast.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We have children that live in the area, so our needs are different from other St. Louis visitors. We needed a place to rest after a hectic day chasing grandchildren and this was perfect. My husband and I have different interests so it is great to have space to do different things as opposed to staying in an extended stay hotel. The apartment is decorated very well and very conveniently located. Karen has many extras for the visitor, freshly roasted local coffee, snacks, bagels, local beer, etc. We truly felt at home!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We were traveling to St Louis for a family event. We wanted to stay in the Central West End neighborhood. The choice: A moderate priced hotel chain or The Jessie Benton Suite. About the same price, but so very different in the experience. The Jessie is hands down better than a hotel room and not just because they provided excellent fresh roast coffee beans. It's a cozy size but having a kitchen and a separate bedroom make so much difference. Add in the WiFi, a computer if you need one, wonderful treats to greet your arrival, an assortment of teas and that fabulous coffee. We are keeping our fingers crossed that the Jessie will be available for our next trip to STL.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Our stay at the Jessie Benton was fantastic. Our hosts made sure it felt like home away from home. They even provided some lovely snacks, drinks and coffee. My 6 foot, 200 pound son slept on the fold out couch and was very comfortable all 3 nights. The location was very convenient to everything, we went all over town and it never took us more than 15 minutes to drive to a location. There's a grocery store a block away and lots of great shopping and night spots within 6 blocks. Parking was right outside. It was well worth the very reasonable expense!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

This is truly a wonderful place. I had a friend driving across the country stop in town and booked this for the evening. Everything from restaurants to stores are within easy walking distance. The rental was extremely clean and the kitchen stocked with many items for use - coffee, teas, and snacks. The owner was very nice and personally meets me at the door to check in and truly went out of her way to show me around and explain the property. I would gladly recommend this property to anyone and if a need comes up in the future would gladly rent again.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

This is a great place for a St. Louis stay. It is near the Metrolink, and the owners offered to give us a lift from the station if they were available (they were!). We were able to take the bus downtown easily and also walk to great restaurants in the Central West End neighborhood. The condo is cozy, but very comfortable and provided all our needs. The special touches of goodies left for us were nice as well.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with young children, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

We spent our anniversary weekend in this very comfortable and cozy apartment! The coffee, teas and snacks provided were unique and yummy. Very clean. Everything smelled good, which is my personal indicator of pleasant. Comfortable bed, too. We listened to all the CD's and used the internet for restaurant research. It was close to the amenities in this historic area. Also a short drive to the train, which took us to the Cardinals game at Busch Stadium in only 10 minutes. Karen called us to make sure all was well, which it definitely was! We would stay here again! And again!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Wife and I traveled to St. Louis to visit our daughter who lives in the Central West End section of the city. Karen (building owner and manager) was very prompt responding to my inquiry and reservation. She met us at the property to give us the keys, show us the apartment, and answer any questions we might have. The apartment is on the first floor, just off the apartment building lobby. the photographs on the website accurately depict the nice furnishings. The property is very clean and well maintained. A big bonus is the many treats (bottled water, beer, chocolate, local coffee, bagels, snacks, etc.) Karen stocks the kitchen with to get you started with your stay. A large grocery store is located in the shopping center immediately across the street. An excellent nearby restaurant is - TASTE - 4584 Laclede Ave. Excellent cocktails, both classic and in-house creations with superb food - mostly small plate Tapas Style. The comfort, convenience, and price cannot be beat. I highly recommend this property.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway.

On a visit to our daughter attending Washington University, we had the pleasure of staying at the Jessie. The apartment was just as conveyed in their listing with many wonderful amenities--coffee, chocolates, Trader Joe's Root Beer!, comfortable furnishings, fabulous bed, computer, etc. and two parking spaces so when our daughter visited us, she had a place to park too. Karen met us at the apartment and filled us in on all we needed to know. We didn't visit any restaurants in the area, but we did eat our way through the St. Louis neighborhoods and would highly recommend Winslow's Home, Kevin's on Cherokee Ave., and we had a great Thanksgiving dinner at the City Diner.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We stayed in the Jessie Benton Suite for 3 nights over Labor Day weekend and hope to be staying here again next time we're in St. Louis. The apartment is updated, beautifully decorated and comfortable. It's obvious the owners take pride in their property and provide great service to their customers. Amenities were great and even included a computer and printer, ceiling fans, a security system, off-street parking. Coffee, teas, snacks and even adult beverages were welcome extras The apartment is in an ideal location for us. Close to Washington University where we were visiting, a block from St. Louis University, across the street from a grocery store and a bus stop. Very easy to get to Forest Park, downtown, I-64, MetroLink, Delmar Loop. Thank you Karen and Rachel.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

I stayed in the suite for four nights and really enjoyed it. All of my meetings were downtown at the convention center, but it was nice being able to hop on the #10 bus right outside the building and take it downtown and walk a few blocks to my meetings. All necessities are within walking distance - a grocery store, quick food places (a new Qdoba across the street), drug store, etc. I went for a nice jog on the SLU campus just a few blocks away. I recommend this place. The owner is super sweet too. She picked me up from the Central West metrolink station, although I'm not sure she does this for all her guests. Either way, it was very nice, considering I had no car.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, families with young children, tourists without a car, sightseeing.
Owner response: Rachel and I generally prefer to let our guests have the "final word" on our accommodations. But just want to note that (unless there is some rare reason we can't) one of us will be happy to pick up any of our car-free guests from the Central West End Metrolink station. Thank you, Jay, for your kind words! We are so glad that you enjoyed your stay at the "Jessie."

This is a quality apartment in a great location of St. Louis. When you enter, you notice the beautiful hardwood floors, gorgeous rugs, and tastefully decorated rooms. Each room is extremely clean and well equipped with everything you need to enjoy your stay. For example, the bed is fabulous quality with high end sheets, the towels have a rich softness to them, and the light fixtures are refined and nicely done. There is the neatest little brand new stove/oven in this very cute kitchen which is fun to be in. The general feeling is that the owners really care about your time here and have thought out what every traveler would love to have for a memorable stay.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, girls getaway, tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

The apartment was as listed and in a great location. Karen made sure we had everything we needed and the space was very clean on arrival. The Jessie Benton Suite was perfect for our week long vacation in St Louis. It is conveniently located between downtown and Forrest Park. So, within minutes, we could get to either part of the city. In addition, we felt safe walking in the neighborhood both day and night. Oh and to add to the safety, there is an alarm system in the apartment. The apartment itself is very clean and cozy. Karen (and Rachel) made us feel very welcome and also comfortable during our stay. They left us snacks from local sources and some fresh fruit! Actually, I should say that we felt like it was home away from home. They provide many amenities that hotels just don't offer. This includes: umbrellas, full kitchen, snacks, the alarm, free parking in a lot that is right next to the building, books, area based magazines, and others that I'm probably forgetting. After a long day at the zoo or at the City Museum, it was nice feeling like I could relax and watch tv in a space that wasn't just on the bed of a typical hotel room. I did price the Jesse Benton vs. hotels and found that although the hotel rooms were cheaper, you have to pay for parking (sometimes with no in and out privileges) which in the end made it more expensive. The only potential problem might be the noise. Since the Jessie Benton is located on the first floor of an apartment building, you can hear people coming and going and some street noise. This was not a problem in the middle of the night, since most people are sleeping and traffic is reduced. But in the early morning you can hear people going to work. Before renting, I read other reviews with this warning. So we ended up turning on the fan from the air conditioner and problem solved. The apartment building is owned and managed by Karen and Rachel, so that definitely gives peace of mind!! The last thing that I must say is, they take credit card! CC is such a safe and convenient payment system for vacation renting. If I ever go back to St. Louis, I will stay at the Jesse Benton. I highly recommend it.Recommended for: Sightseeing

The apartment was very clean and well-decorated, stocked with everything we needed from coffee to internet access. The price was terrific, allowing us to stay an entire week in St. Louis and still be under out budget. That being said, there were several problems we had while staying here. First, this trip was a gift from someone, and so we had sent their credit card information ahead of time to reserve the apartment. When we got there, we were told that they did not feel comfortable taking a third party credit card, and so we had to use our own. This caused a bit of financial trouble, since we had not set aside money to pay for this, and had we known any of this beforehand, it would not have been an issue. Second, the toilet overflowed. We had to use all our towels to soak up the water until a plumber came in the morning. After he left, we were left to clean the floor ourselves. And while we did receive new towels fairly quickly, we never received an apology. (That being said, I realize that this was not something that the suite keepers could control, and they were very nice and willing to help us with anything we needed.) The apartment is right by the door of the building, so there is quite a bit of noise from people entering and exiting. It is also on the ground level, so car horns and loud music were heard fairly often. Even wearing earplugs, I was usually woken up at least once in the middle of the night by the noise. Also, one night a cop banged on our window asking to be let in. He asked us where the manager was, since I guess this apartment was where the manager usually lives. When we told him we didn't know and that we were on vacation, he told us he needed to get in touch with someone because there was an "incident" in the building. Hopefully, if you decide to stay here, none of these things will happen to you! Also, go to the Scottish Arms, it was delicious.Recommended for: Adventure seekers
Owner response: We always ask our guests to write online reviews of the Jessie Benton Suite, and we thank Ashley very much for her review. However, a couple of points deserve clarification. When she and her husband arrived, I did indeed ask them if they would pay with their credit card and suggested that they be reimbursed by her parents, who gave them this stay as a gift. (Credit card law states that merchants should never accept third-party payment; the card being used must belong to the person offering it for payment.) What Ashley did not disclose is that at check-in, she called her father and handed the phone to me. Her father then gave me two different credit card numbers for payment. Both were denied. Ashley then decided to use her own card for payment. Regarding the toilet: When Ashley's husband called me at 9 p.m., he did not tell me that he thought the toilet was stopped up. (Had he said this, I would have walked over there immediately with both a plunger and an apology!) Based on our conversation, it sounded like a small leak from the toilet's supply line. I asked if it could be fixed in the morning. He said yes. We had our plumber there at 9 a.m. to do so. (We now have put a plunger in the bathroom, too.) It is a mystery to learn that a police officer would bang on the window of the Jessie Benton Suite. The "Jessie" has not been a manager's apartment for more than 20 years. Ashley is right: The Jessie Benton Suite is at the heart of one of the most urban intersections in St. Louis. While the "Jessie" is convenient to everything, we recognize that, because of its location (just off of the lobby and on the first floor overlooking a busy city intersection), noise can be a problem. We are doing everything we can to minimize building noise, and we always welcome suggestions from our guests. In closing, we agree with Ashley: The Scottish Arms, and another restaurant, Terrene--both a two- or three-minute walk from the Jessie Benton Suite--are outstanding and well worth visiting.

The apartment is darling and well represented in the pictures here. Extremely clean, charming, and perfect size for this couple who were in town for a festival in Forest Park. We were able to take public transportation to and from the park, so we left our car parked in the convenient lot on the premises. There were treats and coffee and lovely touches throughout. This apartment was a bargain compared to the hotels we looked at and the location was perfect. The owner was accommodating and immediately responsive to any questions or problems (we did not encounter any, except a minor one that was tended to right away.) My only issue is that there is quite a bit of traffic noise (being on a busy street) and while the building was very quiet at night, there was a lot of activity during the day. So if you are a light sleeper, you may want to remedy that with ear plugs or a fan. Besides that, the sleeping accommodations were extremely comfortable. We hope to visit St. Louis again sometime soon so we can explore more places, and we will definitely be staying at Jesse Benton Suites the next time.Recommended for: People with disabilities, age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

This was the perfect spot for us to stay with our boys for a family weekend getaway. It was located in a great spot and we felt very safe. The owners were amazing and so hospitable (they even mailed us an item we forgot). It was nice having the computer/printer as well as the kitchen- there is a grocery store right across the street. It was a little noisy being on the first floor but nothing out of the ordinary for a apartment in a big city. We certainly will be visiting again!Recommended for: People with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My husband and I booked the Jessie Benton back in March for our August trip to a family reunion. The pictures in the listing are true to life. It was extremely clean, (my standards are very high). It was very comfortable. Karen, doesn't leave a thing out. Roasted coffee, fruit, candy, etc. It was nice to be able to access the computer. We are a bit of history nuts and relish old architecture. I loved the high ceilings. You are conveniently located. We had our vehicle with us and knowing the area and how to get around, since my husband is originally from St. Louis, we were one up. You are less than 4 miles to the Arch, a couple of blocks to the Basilica Cathedral, and we toured Busch Stadium. The only drawback, in August, is the heat. But we were well aware of the heat and humidity and it isn't any different in Georgia. I would highly recommend the Jessie Benton. You have much more room than a hotel room. We cooked breakfast every morning. That was great. We didn't have to get up, get dressed and go somewhere to eat. My favorite grocery store in St. Louis is Schnucks and there is one right across the street. Unfortunately, time did not permit, for us to revisit Forest Park and the St. Louis Zoo. On our next trip to St. Louis, we will definitely stay at the Jessie Benton again. The owners are great, the price is great and it is conveniently located. It should be noted that I am a very picky person when it comes to staying outside of my own home. The Jessie Benton exceeded my expectations.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, sightseeing.

The apartment is exactly as advertised. It is very well done. We enjoyed the stay very much and would return. The exciting part is when lightning struck the building - a blinding flash and then no power of over 8 hours. This was not the fault of the landlord - but of the electrical company. In addition, the alarm system was then a bit wacky and went of the next night. The people in the building were also unsettled - and rightfully so. This freak event is the only reason that I would mark it down one notch During all of this, our hostess was the best. She went out of her way to assure that we had everything that we needed or wanted. We will return when we go back to St. LouisRecommended for: Age 55+

We enjoyed our time in the Jessie Benton Suite and St Louis. Karen was extremely nice and made sure we had everything we needed and more (like treats left in the kitchen). It was great having a computer with internet access. After being in the car all day, we enjoyed walking to Scottish Arms for dinner on the first night. We also went to Iron Barley for lunch one day (featured on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives). It was easy to drive downtown and we'd highly recommend going to the City Museum (our kids are 7 and 10 yrs old).Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My husband and I found the condo very comfortable, clean, and secrue. The property description and photos were accurate. The location is very urban and centrally located for the most popular attractions. We were greeted by one of the suitekeeper and made to feel very welcome. I would recommend to friends and family if they intended to attend activities and attractions within the city limits or close by. The only draw back I found at this locations was the number of individuals hanging around the premises at all time of the day. I must point out I never felt threatened or scared entering or leaving the building. The next time we are in St Louis we will rent again.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

A great location! The apartment was clean, comfortable, and attractive, with all the amenities and more than we were expecting. Many good restaurants were within walking distance and many of St. Louis' most popular attractions were only minutes away by car. Karen was very helpful and friendly. Fresh coffee and cream and drinks in the refrigerator were a welcome addition. We felt right at home away from homeRecommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My son and I enjoyed a great getaway in St Louis at the Jessie Benton, The apartment is wonderfully clean, cozy, comfortable and located in a great area of St Louis. Lots of unique restaurants just blocks away as you walk about streets lined with amazing architecture and old world charm. Parking at the door was so nice. The Cathedral Basilica, just a couple blocks away, is a must see. Fresh unground coffee and creamer were waiting in the kitchen - Karen was an amazing hostess.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway.

The Jesse Benton Suite is a wonderfully cozy apartment that addresses all your needs. Whether going to St. Louis for business or pleasure, you would be silly to get a hotel room over this property. Easy access to downtown and a variety of attractions. Property managers were incredibly accomodating in making this a wonderful weekend getaway!Did you find this review helpful? This apartment is one of the coziest, convenient, places I have stayed in. The owners were overly helpful and informative of what is happening in the area. Right in the middle of everything to do in St. Louis. This was a great stay. Cleaner than a hotel, with all the luxuries of home. thanks so much Karen and Rachel! Hopefully we will get to stay here again!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1
