My great-grandfather was a founding member of this cottage association in 1907. There are ten original cottages, linked by a boardwalk strung through the woods. This is my grandparents' cottage, built in 1912 and purchased by them in 1936. We have preserved the natural wood, straw, and bamboo look cultivated by my grandmother. It has been expanded over the years to accommodate 14 people in 6 bedrooms, and 2 more on beds in the living room. The master bedroom has a private half bath. One bathroom has the original claw foot tub. The other two have showers. The open ceilinged living room, designed by a student of Frank Lloyd Wright, with wood-burning fireplace, dominates the view of the dunes and the lake.
The boardwalk connects to a wooden "perch" overlooking the magnificent white sand private beach, with the Pentwater lighthouse and channel to the south and Ludington to the north. This cottage is full of history and charm. References required. Contact me by email for more photos.

I live in Ann Arbor, Michigan where I teach literature. I have 3 children who love the cottage as well, but we spend much of the summer in Italy.
Why the Owner Chose Pentwater
My great-grandfather, a professor of theology at the University of Chicago, bought the property from Ms. Mears in 1907. He and his colleagues were looking for a wholesome retreat for their families to escape the hot Chicago summers.
