Historic MAIN LINE ESTATE Pennsylvania four story stone house dated 1736. 9 sweeping acres of lawns, tennis court, swimming pool (unheated. Open Memorial Day to Labor day)4 air conditioned double bedrooms, 3 1/2 bathrooms. Indoor/outdoor dining, fireflies and a chorus of early bird song. Fully equipped kitchen, three working fireplaces, charm and comfort. 15 miles from downtown Philadelphia.
Letter of reference:: Last summer, I had the enormous pleasure of spending a week at your home in Pennsylvania.
It was a couple of hours from NY to Radnor, but it did not take half that long to take the trip I really wanted - which was from the hyper frenzy of Today to the gentle pace of Yesterday. Thank you for the gift!
Plumb Nilly and its 9 landscaped acres is, on first impression, quite imposing. I felt as if I should have been wearing a bonnet, and been escorted in by Mr. Darcy. But as soon as I stepped through the lintels of the front door, I know I arrived in my own novel, and it would be more romantic than anything Ms. Austen could have written.
Rooms:: It is lovely that you have kept all the rooms in pristine shape, as authentic as today's comforts require. The shine of the floors, and the girth of the beams, the pewter vases of wildflowers and the furniture faithful to that era of 1800 -- all the living rooms were so much appreciated. But it was my bedroom, with the handsome linens, and charming desk, and well appointed art that took my breath away. It was magic to draw away the airy white curtains and look out on the great pasture. Can you imagine when I saw the family of 9 deer, from stag to does to fawns, grazing peacefully at twilight?
Charm:: We cooked in that well provisioned kitchen, inspired to produce feasts both wondrous and simple. We supped in the dining room, all candlesticks a blaze, but we also breakfasted or lunched in the side garden, al fresco, enjoying the birdsong, the herb garden, pots of red geraniums, the views to the pool house. Reading a book, lazing in the sun by the pool, walking the trails in the woods by the running brook -- the house made each of these activities amazing.
But most of all, dear Etan, I will remember the evening we were drawn to the lawn by a faint clicking sound. It was there that we saw from the tops of the trees to the grasses we stood in, a million fireflies courting. It was as if the stars had been pulled down from the skies!! No wonder they believed in fairies. If I hadn't before, I do now. Who else would have created such a miracle? C.Tabora 2009

Back in Time
Back in Time
Our family of 7 adults spent 3 nights at Plumb Nilly in February so we weren't able to take advantage of the pool, but a few of us did use the lighted tennis courts the first evening. Then the weather turned cold. But that made us appreciate the fireplace in one of the sitting rooms even more. We gathered there after supper each night to enjoy the cozy space. Everyone said their beds were comfortable. I can especially vouch for the Master Bedroom Bed--the most comfortable I've ever had away from home. We found everything we needed to cook supper one night--finding the fish poaching pan had my son buying a whole fish at Reading Market and preparing it for us. Every morning I headed for the kitchen to make coffee and sit in the quaint dining room gazing out the window just absorbing all the history that must have taken place in this lovely home. Plumb Nilly is only 30 minutes from downtown Philly, so we went into town both days to enjoy Reading Market and The City Tavern along with several of the museums.

Perfect spot for villanova graduation!
Perfect spot for villanova graduation!
This was an idyllic spot for our family to gather for our daughter's graduation from Villanova! The house and property are full of charm. It is the perfect place to celebrate with family and friends. The pressed linens were a special treat. The owner was most accommodating and helpful. It is a most memorable spot!

Charming Historic Home
Charming Historic Home
Our family recently rented "Plumb Nilly" for our son's Villanova Graduation weekend. What a delightful stay! There was plenty of room for all 8 of us and the well appointed home met our every need. Etan, the owner and James, the caretaker were very easy to work with and they even had the summertime patio awning put up for us, as rain was predicted that weekend. We had extra guests to the home for a graduation dinner and all the accommodations worked beautifully. Some words that come to mind that describe" Plumb Nilly" are picturesque, quaint, peaceful, charming, historic, beautiful, scenic and lovely.....a trip back in time. We enjoyed our stay at this historic estate and would recommend this rental to all.

It is full of memories and travel mementos for the family, and to share it with someone as appreciative as you is a pleasure. Thank you also for leaving the artistic and gorgeous little bouquets you composed. I photographed them, so I will always remember your special touch. Fondly, Etan
Recent Stay at Plumb Nilly
Recent Stay at Plumb Nilly
Our family recently returned from a week at Plumb Nilly and we loved every moment. Our 2 girls ages 7 and 12 loved swimming in the pool and we all enjoyed playing hours of tennis on the tennis court. The area surrounding the property is beautiful and the town of Wayne is charming for dining and shopping. We also enjoyed the King of Prussia Mall for back to school shopping! But honestly we never felt the need to leave the property as we so enjoyed spending time in each period rich room and dining on the outside patio. The girls loved watching the butterflies, and flying a kite on back lawn. Etan-it was such a pleasure to work with you and we are so grateful for the opportunity to have a shared a week at this treasure of a property. We look forward to returning for another restful vacation. Andrew and Roz, Katie and Julia-August 22-August 29 2010

Wonderful Stay At Plumb Nilly
Wonderful Stay At Plumb Nilly
Etan, I just wanted to thank you again for what was an absolutely wonderful stay our family had at Plumb Nilly a couple of weeks ago. Everything was perfect. The house is full of all the character and charm that a small castle from the mid 1700's would possess, yet be equipped with all the modern day technology that you need. The grounds were immaculate, and the pool and tennis court were so pleasant to use. We were there for a wedding in one of the neighboring towns, and while we had a very nice time at all the events, it was unanimous amongst the seven people that stayed, that the time we had at Plumb Nilly was the highlight of our trip. This includes all the exciting things we did in Philadelphia, which turned out to be a 15-20 minute trip. My children wrote about their stay at your home at one of their recent summer camps. Neither one of them mentioned the wedding itself, just that they had gone to one. They just went on and on about everthing they did and saw at Plump Nilly. This included swimming, playing tennis, running around the grounds. They especially loved the fire flies, and the deer (as we all did). James, who watches over the property was so nice, and helpful. It was a real pleasure to meet him. He made sure everything was working properly, and gave us his contact information just in case we needed him, which we didn't. You are very fortunate to have such a gentlman close by to help out. It was my first time in that area of the country in many years, while the rest of my family had never been. I had forgotton how beautiful it was. There is no doubt that we will visit again, and I have already promised everyone that when we do come back, we will stay at Plumb Nilly. It was a pleasure to meet you, thank you again. Sincerely, Rob Podvia

Owner response: What can I say, Rob? You are a very gracious person and the best guest anyone could hope for. It was a pleasure meeting your family, and I sincerely hope you all will return again to Plumb Nilly.
Excellant accomadations and peaceful setting. Located near Valley Forge, Philadelphia and other sites of interest. All systems are in excellant condition and the fire places work well with an excellant supply of wood. The fall was a perfect season for us to enjoy the foliage on walks or drives and when all else failed just hang out in the many interesting and comfortable rooms. Definitely will recommend to others.

Owner response: Thank you Philip for your kind words. It was really my pleasure to have you visit Plumb Nilly. I do hope you will return at some point. It is great to meet lovely people like your family and have you enjoy the house I treasure so much.
Dearest Etan! Thank you very much for allowing us to lease Plumb Nuilly for three weeks during the Christmas season! As you know my husband is undergoing treatment for cancer here in the United States. It meant so much to us that the children could come from all over Asia to be one family during the season in your wonderful home. We felt so privileged to live in a 200 year old house, that is at the same time fitted with all the modern conveniences that we are all so used to! Your whole house exudes the graciousness of your spirit... a factor that makes all the rooms feel so inviting and warm!... PLUS... your well appointed kitchen allowed us to prepare our Christmas Eve and Christmas Day repast with no problems. And even if the winter was raging outside, your home was home to all of us... and we felt safe and comforted! Christmas 2008 in Plumb Nuilly will always be remembered! With love and gratitude, Anmie

Thank you for the wonderful and magical stay at Plum Nilly! We felt like we were walking back in time, with the amazing historic accomodations, wonderful candlelit indoor and outdoor dinners, and the beautiful landscape, complete with a family of deer that provided our outdoor evening entertainment every night! Your home and the area offered so many adventures--from swimming, to tennis, to great walks and runs in our own private woods and the adjacent golf course, to fantastic shopping minutes away in the charming downtown and at the King of Prussia mall. What a tremenous way to so conveniently escape from the city, enjoy all the ammenities you want in a timeless historic setting, and experience endless activities both on the property and only minutes away!
