Great House for Girlfriends' Getaway

Guest: Judy (Columbia Maryland)
Date of Stay: 10/01/10 Review Submitted: 10/04/10

Our group of ladies from Maryland, North Carolina, and Ohio spent our 20th anniversary at this lovely home in the Blue Ridge Mountains. The house is exactly as pictured. It was very clean and had everything we needed. The large number of bedrooms and baths allowed us to avoid tripping over each other. We enjoyed visiting the wineries and lovely town of Staunton. The glassblowing demonstration at Sunspot Studios in Staunton is worth a visit. They have beautiful items for sale at a variety of prices. The Devil's Backbone brewery, at the foot of the mountain leading to Wintergreen resort, offers delicious food. It has a lovely patio with fireplace, space heaters, and blankets for cool weather dining. Wintergreen Winery, within sight of Devil's Backbone, offers tastings. The winery sells a mulled apple wine package, perfect for fall and winter. There are numerous wineries in the area that offer tastings. Albemarle Ciderworks, which sells hard cider, is also in the area. Rob, the owner, was very accommodating and quick to respond. We would certainly rent this house again!

Great Time - Great Place!!!

Guest: Robin & Friends1 (Richmond, Virginia)
Date of Stay: 08/26/10 Review Submitted: 08/30/10

This was a great place to stay - almost new - furnished really well - great deck - everything we needed was there including hand soap and detergent. The beds are really comfortable. The owner could not have been easier to work with and accommodated our special travel needs perfectly - very nice. We had 10 women for a tennis weekend - and we are planning a return in the Spring. The price is amazing for the size of the home - it's private and easy to get to. We cooked each night - and found everything we needed - except a second coffee pot which we will bring next time. I highly recommend - you won't be disappointed.

Surpassed expectations

Guest: NicoleP (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania)

We rented this house for a family reunion. It surpassed our expectations! The kitchen was well-stocked with pans, dishes, and silverware. The house was very clean and comfortable. We had plenty of space to spread out and relax. I felt comfortable allowing my two year old to roam as there were not lots of breakables or dangerous items. I would not say that it was completely child-proof but it was sufficient for most children. Our family is looking forward to the next time we need to get away!

I Highly Recommend This House!

I needed a place last minute for a 2 day workshop I was hosting for a small group. What a perfect place for it! While the description and photos were accurate depictions of the house's interior they in no way conveyed the minimalist, understated, tasteful decor that created an elegant spacious environment. It's 6 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms were beautifully decorated and stocked with cushy towels. The house was perfectly maintained, clean and with a fully equipped, kitchen with the latest appliances. That really was the icing on the cake for me. It was perfect. We had a problem accessing the internet. The owner called me back in a reasonable time and though it was late evening he kept his word and got someone to follow up with me. It turned out we were fine without it but it made an impression and I really appreciated the attentiveness. Several of my attendees remarked on their interest in renting the house for their programs and vacations. I highly recommend this house.

Great Place to Stay!

Guest: Eeva (North Carolina)
Date of Stay: 02/26/10 Review Submitted: 03/04/10

Stayed here for a weekend trip to Wintergreen. The house was amazing and very clean and well kept. It has 3 floors, so the bedrooms and bathrooms were spread out around the house. It has a great kitchen with very nice accessories. Lots of room for everyone to sit and relax and the 2 couches and 2 different tables. We didn't get a chance to enjoy the deck, since there was about 2 feet of snow - but it would be a great place to hang out outside. One of the ski slopes is a 3 minute walk from the house, which is very convenient. Overall, this is a great place and was a great deal. Rob was also easy to contact and helpful with questions.

We had a White Christmas!

Guest: Elayne is not my last name (Outer Banks of North Carolina)
Date of Stay: 12/24/09 Review Submitted: 01/08/10

For the last seven years, my family has come together in a Mountain Retreat for our Christmas. Since my Mother and my sister used to live in Middle Tennesse, my brother and his fiance live in Maryland, his son lives in the DC area, and my husband and I live on the Outer Banks of NC, we have previously chose a log cabin in Gatlinburg, TN. But with the passing of our Mother, and my sister and her husband moving to the Piedmont of NC, this year we chose the Mountains of Virginia Area. Finding a 6 bedroom house in the Wintergreen, with a large kitchen and living area required a bit of computer time. The house was beautiful and very clean. Large, very well appointed bedgrooms, closets, and baths on three floors. We did put the Kitchen table and dinning table together to seat our 9 adults, one teen and one eight year old. We had low threshold showers with seats, and a jacuzzi tub in the bathroom on the second floor. In the main floor living room was a sectional sofa that seated nine people before the fireplace on Christmas morning, with two of Santa's elves handing out the gifts. The Kitchen was very well appointed, but if you are a gourmet chef like my sister, and a cooking teacher(me) bring your own Chef's, paring, and filet knives. The serrated edge knives at the house were great for steaks, only. Many, good quality pots, pans, dishes, bowls, glasses, and cutlery lower filled the lower cabinets and drawers, leaving the upper cabinets to store the canned and packaged goods we brought to feed our crew. There was a washer and dryer with a jug of detergent. There was a small plumbing problem under the kitchen sink; my husband called posted number, and a plumber was repairing the leak within 2 hours. There were only two really negative things about the house. The bedrooms on the main and lower floors were quite cold, while the one on the third floor was very hot. Fortunately the gas fireplaces on the main and lower floors both worked very well and there were also plenty of blankets. The other thing ( and one of the reasons we chose this house) was that Wintergreen Resort had in previous years supplied a shuttle to and from the Mountain Inn and the ski center to all the houses on the Mountain Complex. However, this year, the resort discontinued the shuttle service to the housing not rented through the Mountain Inn Wintergreen Resort. It took a great deal of time for finding a parking place and walking to the ski center.
