Staying at Hikers Rest gives you the relaxation and comfortable feeling we are all looking for on a vacation. The secluded cottage is elevated which allows you to look out over the beautiful Hapu ferns along with the Ohia rain forest. Relax and unwind by opening the windows in the morning and hearing all of the birds singing around you. Enjoy this brand new cottage with hardwood mahogany floors, vaulted open beam ceilings and many large windows. The cottage is also minutes away from Volcano Village where there are some great resturants and a short drive to the National Park. It really is enchanting!

Beautifully crafted, well made cottage with superb attention to detail. Absolutely clean. Beautifully furnished. All the amenities you will need. Lovely private and peaceful setting. Highly recommended. After dark, from the porch, be sure and look down on the lava rock by the steps.

We thoroughly enjoyed our 2 weeks stay in Hikers Rest. It was by far our best rental yet and the perfect place on our second visit to the Big Island. We especially have benefit from its quiet location and all its amenities. We have been privileged to share that part of hawaiian paradise. Yours is truly a dream cottage and a real "pearl"! We sincerely would recommend Hikers Rest to our dearest friends. It is truly unique. Thanks again for the nice memories we gathered while staying over. We sure hope to visit again.

wonderfully conceived vacation bungalow: listening to the birds on the veranda, enjoying fern forest was a bit of heaven. If we build a cabin, it will incorporate so many well thought out concepts used for this vacation site. Good for up to four. Don't forget Sunday farm market 1mile away.

Hiker's Rest is a spotlessly clean, artfully rendered cabin in the ohia forest just outside Hi. Volcanoes Natl. Park. If you are a couple looking for a peaceful retreat (as we were), next to one of America's most unique parks, you will enjoy your stay very much.

We recently stayed at Hiker's Rest for 2 days. It was a wonderful place to call "home" after a long day at the national park. The cottage was beautifully maintained. While there are a couple beds, the structure of the cottage is a loft, so noise could be an issue if you have kids staying in the downstairs area. The pictures are an accurate representation of the cottage. I would absolutely recommend this cottage to anyone who wants a nice place to stay!

Amidst the beautiful rainforest, Hiker's Rest is truly a gem. Beautifully decorated with wonderful attention to detail, we 4 ladies had a great reunion. Sitting on the porch listening to the birds chirp, watching the rain fall, it was a fantastic place to stay, albeit too brief but nonetheless lovely. I will be bringing my family back to Hiker's Rest.

My Dad, nephew and I stayed for three nights in August. The place was immaculately clean and well stocked with convince items such as coffee, sugar, spices, flashlights and shampoo. The owner's friend who let us in was super friendly and helpful. It will be an easy choice on where to stay on our next visit to Volcano National Park. LAVA Viewing advice: Don't miss Chain of Craters road in the park, no direct view of lava, but worth the drive. If you go to the end of HWY 130 out of Hilo to see lava, go early in the morning to avoid being turned around by over zealous public safety officers. We heard they arrive around noon. The Glenwood dr hiking trail to the vent was a 9 mile round trip bust. The lava is flowing beyond the a distant ridge and at least a mile further over old flow beyond the edge of the rain forest. Don't bother unless you're just out for a long, wet hike. Our guide book was wrong to recommend this. Food: Foodland in Hilo has excellent Poke (tuna stewed in soy and other good stuff). The Thai place in Volcano was very good. My Nephew works at at Thai place and even he was impressed, which is really rare. The Sunday morning farmer's market in Volcano should not be missed! 25 cent papayas! Miscellaneous thoughts: Most of the saddle road is straight and wide on the Hilo side, perhaps the best road on the island. It is still narrow on the Kona side, but the pavement is new. Likewise, the road to the top of Mona kea was easily handled all the way to the top with our 2wd rental car. Shift the transmission into low gear on the way down to save the brakes! Don't be intimidated by over blown tales of altitude sickness and bad roads, you'll miss out!

If you are planning a trip to Volcano National Park and are thinking of staying at the Kilauea Lodge or other inn/cottage, be sure to think twice. This cottage is about half the price and AMAZING. It is close by (< 1 mile from Volcano Village) and brand new and is so calming and relaxing. The kitchen has everything you need, they provide soap, shampoo, etc. The towels and linens were luxuriant. We had 4 people (parents and 18 and 20 yr old). We enjoyed our short stay here, but it is "one (large) room" living (open loft with a king be and two singles downstairs). A longer stay might have been harder. For two people this is not an issue. The stairway is STEEP so you have to be comfortable with this. We would definitely stay here again and I would recommend this highly to anyone. Everything about renting this (communication with owners, payment, etc) was easy. 5 stars definitely.
