6 of us from all over the U.S. met for an unforgettable week in Oaxaca. I had been to Oaxaca before and wanted to share it with my friends. I found this amazing house online and it became for all of us a perfect island of peace and beauty in this wonderful city. After spending a day exploring the city or the neighboring villages, it was great to come back to this house to rest, relax and enjoy each other's company. The photos don't do justice to the spaciousness and the beauty of this house. It's very well maintained, with many plants and trees in the central courtyard, surrounded by comfortable parlors on the ground floor and spacious bedrooms on the second. The layout gives everyone as much privacy as we could want, with plenty of common space where we could gather and enjoy being together. The kitchen is a gem, very open and inviting, with everything we could want for preparing our own meals. (But almost always we went out to eat, because the food in Oaxaca is amazing!) The location is perfect, right in the heart of the historic district, within walking distance of everything, but very quiet and separate from the hustle and bustle. We reluctantly left at the end of the week, but were already planning our next trip and look forward to staying here again.

Owner response: You will have to return for another visit! Thank you.

We five Californians were gathering in Oaxaca for New Year's week, for many of us the first time in that part of Mexico. Cynthia's home worked out beautifully for us. Location is the most important factor: the house is convenient to the PanAmerican Highway, and only a few minutes walk to the major shopping street and to the wonderful museum and botanical garden at Santo Domingo—one of our primary destinations. The house is spacious, clean, quiet, and comfortable. The bathrooms are downstairs from the bedrooms, which proved to not be a problem, even for the seniors in the group. The kitchen is fully equipped with appliances and cookware, and a wonderful local market is just a block away. Soledad, the caretaker, provided a cheerful welcome and attended to all our needs. Plenty of excellent restaurants, both traditional and contemporary, were also within a short walk. We could easily have stayed there another week, and all hope to return.

Owner response: I am so happy that you all had such a great time at the house and in Oaxaca!

This clean and airy house is located in the center of the city within walking distance of all the major tourists sites. The patio was a great place for breakfasts and group gatherings. It was very easy to communicate with the owner and uncomplicated to arrange to get and deliver the keys with the on-site manager. Visitors with limited mobility might find the staircase a bit of a challenge. I will recommend this house to anyone visiting fascinating Oaxaca!

Owner response: gracias arturo - glad you enjoyed your visit!

Our group of 8 stayed two weeks at Cynthia's house in Oaxaca. The space was perfect to allow us to spend time together, but with enough privacy after a long day hanging out with family. The location is great and everything is within easy walking distance. We would walk to a hotel nearby to have excellent breakfasts with an awesome view of Santo Domingo. The Zocalo is a 15 minute walk and there are numerous restaurants of all quality and price located nearby. While at the house, you can easily relaxed in or out of the sun and there are several communal areas including an outdoor table. The roof of the outdoor bathrooms/laundry room provided us some great views of the fireworks. There are plenty of bathroom space and with 8 people we did not run out of hot water or suffer long wait times. The kitchen is great for storing all of our food from the nearby market. Overall a great option for your stay in Oaxaca and Cynthia is a great and informative host. Her caretakers, Ana and Alma, were very pleasant and made out trip even that more special.

Owner response: thanks and gad the trip went welll!!!!

This is my first time renting a family vacation home without actually being able to check it out in person before hand...worrying a bit whether it was going to be as advertised. Communication with the owner, Cynthia, put me at ease. She was very helpful with all questions and responded quickly. We were greeted at the door by Anna, the house keeper, who pleasantly welcomed us, and, the minute we entered from the street, we knew we had made the right decision. My family and I were so pleased that we found this fantastic place for our stay in Oaxaca. We were impressed with its cleanliness and beauty, and immediately called it home. There was ample room for the six of us...Personal space for everyone, and nice, comfortable areas for all to gather at once. We loved the rooftop for the city and mountain views. It was a wonderful spot for sky watching, too. The well equipped kitchen was a pleasure to use. We had everything necessary to make some great meals. The courtyard was perfect for morning coffee and relaxation. Loved the vegetation and sweet aromas from the bougainvillea and azaleas. This home is central to so much of what we wanted to experience in Mexico. It's close to shopping, all kinds of food shops and restaurants, the Zolaco, Santo Domino with its museum and so much more...all within walking distance. Just touching the surface, the ruins at Mitla and Monte Alban, Tule, the Barro Negro Pottery Market, mescal factories are all very close. From this home, we had a chance to get a true feeling of Oaxaca and its people...warm, happy people who were eager to share their culture and experiences with us. It's a place that will remain, forever, in our hearts. Thank you Cynthia and Anna for all of your assistance in making our vacation complete.

Owner response: thank you very much!

As a group of adults who regularly travel together we have experience renting homes for our vacation stays. All 5 of us were very pleased with this home. The gardens were a wonderful place for our morning coffee or our traditional glass of wine at the end of the day. The kitchen is spectacular and very well equipped. All of the living areas are very comfortable and very clean. As mentioned in other reviews, the winding staircases posed a challenge, particularly with respect to luggage, but with a little extra care we managed just fine. There is a large washroom located in the main house and the two additional washrooms located adjacent to the kitchen and patio simply require a little extra organization in the morning. The home itself is located within walking distance of major attractions...museums, churches, galleries, the zocolo, bookstores, restaurants... and therefore calls us to a return stay. Although we initially had some concerns about the street and bus noise, they were minimized as we became accustomed to the routines of an active city. This certainly will not inhibit our desire to return. The owner, Cynthia, is extremely professional and responds to questions very quickly. She is willing to help out in any way as you make plans for your stay in this most beautiful, inspiring and remarkable city.

                                Owner response: thank you

The house is truly a little paradise and the three of us really enjoyed our stay there. The caretaker waited patiently for us when our taxi driver got repeatedly lost the night we arrived. So even though we were later than expected, all went smoothly and we found everything ready for us. Not only was the house clean and comfortable, but there were even fresh flower arrangements awaiting us. The help in organizing a taxi for our early morning departure which also very much appreciated. The house, which was rebuilt from the ground up, has the feeling of what I imagine a traditional Oaxacan house to be with just the right contemporary touches. That sunlit kitchen is a wonder. Not only beautiful, but warm in the cold mornings and cool in the midday sun. The photos just don't do justice to the beautiful courtyard gardens. As another reviewer mentioned, the spiral staircase separating us from the bathrooms was a drawback (my husband and I are in our 70s), but we managed it without too much trouble. There is much to do in Oaxaca, from art galleries to markets to museums and nearby ruins. The botanical garden is not to be missed. And Oaxaca abounds with great restaurants and cooking classes. Pilar Cabrera's cooking class at Casa de los Sabores was the highlight of our visit -- really a lesson in Oaxacan culture and tradition as well as hands-on learning how to cook (so many cooking classes are just demonstration, but we got our hands dirty) and had a lot of fun.

My family stayed at this house in the winter 2010. Neither the pictures nor the words can do it justice. It is something that is truly out of the Gabriela Garcia Marquez novel. The house is very romantic but at the same time very child friendly (except for the spiral staircases, which we closed off with dressers). The house is the center of everything yet once your in there, you feel like you are in a far away place. The courtyard with the hammock is absolutely stunning. The house has everything you could possibly need and it is HUGE. We didn't even use the half of it (we were a family of 2 adults and 3 little kids). The owner as well as the caretaker were beyond accommodating. We could not have had a happier and more special time!

!! W O W !!! what a deal. I loved this place in every way. It is a B E A U T I F U L house in the center of town and as promised close to everything you could want. The caretaker was terrific and cheerfully answered all questions - and was a treat to have around. We looked at other places to stay for a return trip. Nothing compares. We will be back!

We stayed in this spacious haven that is close to all the Oaxaca attractions. It is within easy walking distance of the central square which is always bustling with new exhibits or festivals. There are are many great restaurants all within walking distance or there is a well-appointed kitchen for meals at home. A personal favorite was the juice bar right up the street with inexpensive freshly squeezed tropical fruit juices that you can carryout for breakfast. Shopping, museums, craft markets and a fantastic botanical garden with guided tours in English all very close by foot. Other attractions like the ruins at Monte Alban and El Tule, the widest tree in the world, are within minutes by taxi or bus. Local transportation is easy to arrange. Our daughter walked to the local language school where we were able to arrange her enrollment on the spur of the moment. The neighborhood is safe and Oaxacans we met were extraordinarily friendly . The owner was very accommodating and bilingual, which came in handy. After a busy day sightseeing it was so relaxing to return to this quiet home with an open central courtyard that made us feel like we were in our own private garden.
