Honu Hale Lanikai (Honu means turtle, Hale means house) is a simple and comfortable two bedroom oceanfront vacation home in beautiful Lanikai on the island of Oahu. It has one bedroom/one bath in the main house and a large private bedroom and bath upstairs, which we call the Dolphin Suite. It can accommodate up to 6 people--2 each in the bedrooms and 2 on the queen futon bed in the living room.

See our YouTube video by clicking on the Video tab near the top of this page.

Honu Hale Lanikai is located exactly in front of the Mokulua Islands, providing endless hours of outstanding views from both bedrooms as well as the living room, dining room, backyard, side deck and even the upstairs bathroom. Easy access (a short stairway down to the ocean) means you can swim, snorkel, kayak, fish, etc. right from your yard. Your days are filled with the sounds of waves, trade winds blowing through the coconut trees and picturesque sailboats, kayakers and outrigger canoes going by. Lanikai provides a fun and healthy lifestyle in a friendly beach community. It's perfect for families as well as couples wanting a relaxed Hawaiian style home environment away from the busy and crowded resort areas.

Mahalo, Mahalo, Mahalo!
We came to this place for the wedding of our daughter, sister, and friend. It was perfect that we were all able to stay together in this beautiful house on the water. This excellent setting with the view of the 2 little islands, with the outriggers, kayakers, boaters and swimmers brought back the memories of the beautiful place that brought us all together, Palau, and that made us all family. ... We so enjoyed our early morning swims with the gorgeous sunrises. The colors from the sunsets were amazing. The stargazing incredible. All the neighbors were so kind and friendly. Most of all we enjoyed our daughter's, sisters's and friend's wedding that was a dream come true for us all. We made so may more beautiful memories here to share with one another and friends when we meet again.
Barbara & Chuck H. & Friends

Thank you so very much for the wonderful stay in your beautiful home. We had such a relaxing vacation here. The view is incredible and we loved the privacy! Our kids will never forget this experience, nor will we! Everything was just perfect--couldn't ask for a more accommodating home away from home.
Mahalo -- Nipp, Tracie, Perry, & Chloe, Peachtree City, GA

Each day a coconut floats in from 'unknown' islands. Watching crabs (from a safe spot) walk along. Watching many bird or geckos, that's what I did.
Kevin Ross, age 10

Thanks for hosting our vacation! We loved the sunrises, Air Chair (we bought one for back home), hammock and the Internet for researching Luau times, etc. We really liked the upstairs. We loved taking pictures of the 2 islands and playing soccer in the backyard with a beach ball. The geckos were great and swaying palm trees were perfect in our pictures.
We hope to come back soon! The Ross/Wingavaer families

We just returned from a wonderful week at Honu Hale. This property is a fabulous place for a family or 2 couple getaway. My husband and I stayed in the main house bedroom and our friends stayed in the separate upstairs Dolphin Suite. This gave both couples privacy while sharing the living room, kitchen and outdoor spaces. The O'hana room and yard with the seawall is worth the rental price alone. We cooked on the grill every night and ate outside. The photos and website for this home do not do it justice in our opinion. It looks ok in the pics, but is truly magical in person. It is like having the gentle turquoise waters of Lanikai (with the Mokes front and center) in your living room. The house is so well-stocked. We have rented many other VRBO properties, and this one was the best: plenty of toilet paper, paper towels, coffee filters, basic spices, laundry detergent/dryer sheets, beach towels, an abundance of bed linens, even soap and shampoo. You just need to pick up a few groceries, and you're set for a week in paradise. When we visited, there were 2 boogie boards for floating along the shore, a snorkel set, and some children's beach toy items. We also found sunscreen and after-sun care Aloe, candles, and basic cleaning supplies. The property was super-clean and well maintained for what it is: a simple home on the sea. It's not an upscale, luxurious house, so if you're looking for that vibe, look elsewhere. But if you want a homey, relaxing sea cottage with everything you need to take advantage of the beautiful surroundings, book it today! John could not have been easier to work with, and the price is certainly reasonable for the neighborhood. Something to consider: if you have alot of pre-booked tours booked or are planning on being on the go constantly, this may not be your rental. It is almost impossible to leave the home/yard. However, with Kailua Beach Park right down the road, with Kailua's charming atmosphere, you can just wander a few blocks and that might be enough. We hope to return to Honu Hale for a longer stay soon. Mahalo, John!

We had so many things to do on the island while we were there, but we swore we we would not leave the house for too long. We have looked at vacations in Tahiti, Moorea, Bora Bora, and it would cost us double to go and get the same. BASIC experience that we got in this house. We took our whole family and loved every minute of staying in this house. The next time we come, we will not leave to sightsee, or explore, because there is too much to do right there. It was breathtakingly wonderful. Amazing islands and terrific stars at night. Kayak out there too. It's great.

Our family of 5 had a WONDERFUL week at Honu Hale Lanikai. The View hits you first - Unbelievably gorgeous - exactly like the photos! I spent weeks reviewing places and this offered a great value, given the view, location and amenities. You can relax and enjoy the view from the hammock, the swing chair, and lounge chairs while sipping cool drinks and mesmerized by the view and the colors of the sky and ocean. The place - is furnished with all the comforts and amenities(gas grill, kitchen appliances, utensils, towels, boogie boards, broadband wi-fi, etc, etc) you would need. place has many small touches/motifs that make you smile and relax. Beds are comfortable and the ocean breezes and waves put you to sleep at night. The water is right at the foot of the property and at low tide has a small sandy beach, accessible via vertical steps from the property, My family went in every day and met up with a sea turtle while snorkeling! Lanikai's most beautiful beach with more shoreline is just down the road. Left with beautiful memories and desire to come back soon. Thank you John for having such a wonderful place!

The Honu Hale is fabulous because of the location location location. Home provided all utensils and housewares you may need. Great view of the Mokulua islands and the neighbors are absolutely fantastic. This is a beach house and this house definitely takes a beating from the weather. Just spending 10days there we realized how much and yet the home is in good shape. Love the separate bungalow above the driveway and the ohana room. The bungalow allowed us to have privacy. We spent most of our time either on the lawn (air chair), wall or in the ohana room. Perfect place to block out the wind on those windy nights (which is every night on the windward side). I was worried about the weather since it said scattered showers, but it was funny how it definitely rained just not on our house, maybe a few houses down and only for 10mins. Yes, having the fisher men out everyday right in front on your home was a little annoying but they really do not bother you. They are there only for the fishes and they leave during the midday and return for a couple hours at night, but you will find someone there at 5:30am every morning. Hey me and my family fishes too so it was fine with us. Good way for us to figure out where the fishes were. Just followed the pros! Would I book this location again? Absolutely!!! I was able to visit w/family and friends w/o leaving the property! That is my kind of Vacation! Mahalo nui for allowing us the pleasure of experiencing everything Honu hale and Lanikai has to offer! Remember ppl Location Location Location! Perfect!!!

Having formerly lived in Lanikai in the 1990s, this was our first trip back since then. We couldn't have asked for a better experience. The house has great ammenities (towels, sheets, all the kitchen implements you could ask for, comfortable, clean, private), not to mention that it is situated in the perfect location (amazing beach that hasn't remained the secret it was 20 years ago). John (owner) was extremely helpful, thoughtful and honest in all aspects of the process of the rental. We are looking forward to returning to Honu Hale Lanikai each year.

From our Guest Book: This was our second time to visit the Honu Hale Lanikai. The vacations here continue to be enjoyable and peaceful. The sunrises, the sunsets, the sound of the sea and especially the sea breeze fresh air. All wonderful! Thanks!

From our Guest Book: Wow, what a place!! We love it!! Best family vaca ever!! Swimming, snorkeling, sunbathing, BBQs + the best breezes ever known. Throw in a couple thunderstorms + this desert family from CA had the best time ever. Played cards, games and explored the island. North Shore, Waikiki, Sandy Beach + Kailua. Ate at Roy's, Buzz's, Sunsei Sushi. Also Boots & Kimos. We love this charming, quaint beach shack. The perfect place to relax -- naps in the hammock -- ah so nice. Thank you for a memorable week.

We loved our stay at Honu Hale--the sunrises, the ocean breezes, the sound of the waves lapping the seawall, snorkeling, fishing, crabbing, kayaking, swimming with the sea turtles or watching them from our Hawaiian backyard, and the moonrises over the Mokuluas. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed our stay there--even my redneck son-in-law, who thinks we should make it an annual trip. We also enjoyed eating at Buzz's, Kalapawai Cafe (both locations), Agnes Bakery, Big City Diner and the to die for pancakes & mac sauce at Boots & Kimos. Shave ice at Island Snow was a must after a day at the beach. We will be back!!! Mahalo and Aloha!
