Quiet Historic Barn - Paradise in Mission Canyon
- Minimum stay:N/A
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:Yes
- Wheel chair accessible:No
Perfect getaway for a peaceful vacation. Artistic location just blocks from the "Queen of the Missions", the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History, and Rocky Nook Park. The living quarters is an 1890's redwood barn with double glass doors that swing open to a large private deck with view of the mountains.
The bedroom has a queen bed, and there is also a trundle bed (two singles) in a screened off alcove. The bathroom has a Japanese style soaking tub with shower. There is a full kitchen with dishwasher, microwave, and toaster oven. We share a washer and dryer (or clothes line) out behind the barn. When you pull open the original barn door you have a view of the old water tower, and a lush garden. There are soft wood floors, so please no dogs over 40 pounds, and not more than one.
An owner lives on the grounds to take care of any questions. The property has the outbuildings for an old mansion- the Barn, the Carriage House, the Stone Cottage and the Cook's Cottage.
Minutes to gorgeous downtown Santa Barbara with beautiful beaches, shopping, museums, and sightseeing. Perfect artist's or writer's loft.

Long overdue review. This place and its proprietors embody everything we love about SB. We stayed in the lower barn for 3 nights and absolutely loved it. Shelley and Ravi are incredibly nice and laid back. Every one of Shelley's recommendations for places to go and places to eat was spot on. It was very difficult to leave. We will always stay here when we visit SB!Recommended for: Girls getaway, pet owners, families with young children, sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

We loved our stay here! The owners were friendly & kind. The property was really beautiful with flowers and nice tree canopy and a unique water tower. There were multiple decks and patios that we enjoyed for dining, reading/lounging, or having a glass of wine as we watched sunset. We found it to be a nice & very scenic walk to Downtown Santa Barbara through the historic mission. We would love to stay here again!Recommended for: Girls getaway, sightseeing, families with teenagers, tourists without a car.
Owner response: Thank you so much, and we would love to have you stay here again, too!

We enjoyed our stay at the barn so much. The property is lush and beautiful and feels very private and secluded, though it is still centrally located. We loved all the small details - stained glass windows, custom woodwork, and especially the many french doors and windows that we kept open most of the time to enjoy the fresh air and perfect weather of Santa Barbara. We will be back!Recommended for: Girls getaway, pet owners, families with young children, sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Thank you so much, we are so appreciative of our wonderful guests!

The setting is indeed beautiful and the location excellent, but the unit itself did not live up to my expectations based on the pictures and all the 5-star reviews. Even taking into account that it's in an old barn, the place had a very unfinished and yet somehow simultaneously worn feel to it, and a lot of the carpentry appeared to have been done by amateurs. Perhaps it's best just to give some examples. For instance, the tile in the bathroom didn't cover the whole floor, and the tile (which extends into the adjacent room) seems not to have been grouted; also there was no toilet paper holder. The "writer's nook" in the pictures is gone (replaced by a small couch) and that room has an area rug siting on a bare plywood subfloor. In a few places, the walls/ceiling were just unpainted plywood/strand board. Also, one of the electrical outlets had a badly cracked faceplate, and another had none at all. Certainly, it's by far the least nice of the three VRBO places I've stayed at in Santa Barbara, though it should be said it is also the cheapest.Owner response: It is unfortunate that this gentleman stayed when he did. He did not tell us the reason he left early, although asked, and we gave him a complete refund for the unoccupied days. He caught us in the middle of an upgrade. We had taken out the modern desk and were looking for an antique to match the character of the barn. We have an antique solid oak desk, new rug, new pillows on the deck, and all other issues in his complaint have been addressed. The couple presently staying are so happy that they have already booked for next year.

I would recommend this property to anyone who enjoys simplicity and beauty. We just returned from a weeks stay in the lower level barn rental. It was amazing! We have two small children and it was perfect. They loved the trampoline and garden. It was very relaxed and the owners were absolutely delightful. We felt very much at home from the moment we arrived. The rental unit itself is very eclectic and beautifully decorated. It is a true gem. You will feel like you are in a little hideaway, but you are only minutes from beach and downtown. We hope to make it a yearly destination. LOVED it!Recommended for: Girls getaway, pet owners, families with young children, sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway.

We just returned from a wonderful stay at the "barn". Glendessary is a unique property in a beautiful area of Santa Barbara. The owner, Jamee is an artist and very thoughful host. Even though there are other rentals on the property, it is private and quiet. I recommend this VRBO rental.Recommended for: Pet owners, age 55+, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

Staying at the Glendessary hideaway provides a peaceful, soul restoring experience. I think Glenassary Lane is the most beautiful neighborhood in Santa Barbara. I love staying here. Thank you so much. Kathy Duerr Portland, ORDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1
