The house is located a few hundred yards upriver and across from the Kenai Princess Lodge, just above the Upper River rapids. The living set up is ideal for a romantic couple, a family of 5 or 4-5 friends. Moose, bear, bald eagles, beavers, goats and mountain sheep are commonly seen from the property. In May and early June, brown bears frequent the property requiring extra caution. Outside there are plentiful wild raspberries in late summer, an outdoor sauna and wade fishing for Rainbows and Dollies.
The fly fishing for trophy rainbow trout and Dolly Varden on the upper river is tremendous between mid August and late October.

Plans are underway to add a second full bath downstairs before the 2013 summer season. Both the upstairs master bedroom and bath will be remodeled in April of 2013.
Although there are several prime slots available in 2013, we are now accepting reservations for 2014.

I have stayed at this house several times in the past couple of years. I would highly recommend it. The back porch and yard provide great view of the Kenai River. The location is perfect for spending some quiet, peaceful time secluded from business of big city life. It also serves as a very convenient location for day trips to homer or Seward. The fishing on the Kenai is unbeatable. I am already booked for next year.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, age 55+, sightseeing, adventure seekers.

You are going to love your stay at The River House. The week my family and I stayed was especially great for me. Most mornings the family would set out to a nearby boat launch for a day of fly fishing on the Kenai. This left me, the sofa, and the big picture window to ourselves. Out that window the Kenai River raced past, salmon leaped, eagles flew, and fly fisher men and and women cast their lines. As for me, I read, wrote, napped and enjoyed the peace and beauty of the mountain, the forest, and the river before me. The home is spacious, comfortable, modern and convenient to the river and local shops. One word of warning - once you stay here, you just might not want to leave!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, people with disabilities, sightseeing, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, girls getaway.

Above glide bald eagles just above mountain sheep, on a parallel level can appear beaver, moose, bear, and ducks, below in the swift turquoise water swim world class trout and tasty salmon. Rent this historic house and you will view peace, joy, action, and great fishing.Recommended for: People with disabilities, age 55+, families with young children, sightseeing, adventure seekers, families with teenagers.

I am convinced this secluded beauty is the most peaceful place on earth. Stress melted away while sitting in the sunroom staring out at the tranquil, blue river passing by. I was in awe of the riot of colors nature provided just out the window. During my stay on the property I witnessed several bald eagles, a beaver building a dam, a moose, and even a bear! Another perk of the property is we never heard a car, horn, stereo, or anyother obnoxious sound from everyday life and yet only a five minute drive into town. I was in a complete state of relaxation with the comfortable furnature and bed linens. My husband enjoyed the convenient fishing, hiking, and did I mention the sunroom? We will definitely rent this property again!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, tourists without a car, age 55+, sightseeing, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, girls getaway.

About the owner: There are few things I enjoy more than floating down the Upper Kenai and few places I find more peaceful than having a cup of coffee in the sunroom. I was lucky enough to spend the month of September fishing in Cooper Landing for about a decade before owning this property. For any guests that have not experienced September in Cooper Landing, I strongly recommend it.
Why the Owner Chose Cooper Landing:
Cooper Landing's location is an ideal location to set up camp for a 1-2 week Alaska vacation. Homer, Whittier and Seward are easily accessible for day trips.
There are many houses for rent in Cooper Landing, but few have the privacy and beauty of the River House. Quartz Creek and the Russian River are equidistant from the property, both within 5 miles.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
If the world class rainbow fishing was not enough, the upper river is one of the most beautiful places I have been. The house is extremely quiet and sits across from the drift only marker on the Upper Kenai (No motors allowed). The house is across from the Kenai Princess Lodge, but cannot be seen from the property. Just above the property, the river begins to narrow and pick up current. The view from the dining room table and sun room is breathtaking. The original house was built in the 50s and has been featured on the cover of several magazines over the years. Great effort has been made to maintain the trees on the property, while keeping them trimmed to ensure views from all angles.
There are very few properties on the Kenai river with the privacy and scenery of this location.
Brown bears frequent the property in May and early June and leave their mark on an annual basis. By late June the bears move a few miles down river to look for spawning salmon.
