Our house is relatively new-it was completed in July of 2004. It has excellent privacy and is near numerous things to do and places to see. The house is close to Volcano National Park. It is also very near an excellent snorkel area (less than ten miles). Other nearby attractions are a "hot pond"-a swimming pool with warm water heated by a lava hot springs. Lava Tree Monument is very interesting and is immediately adjacent to Leilani Estates.
The house has a huge covered deck or lanai which is 10x40'. We eat all of our meals on the deck which has a very beautiful view over the back portion of our property. One additional feature of our house is that it has a master bedroom and master bath at each end of the house, which makes it very nice for two couples. Between the two ends of the house are a small bedroom with bunk beds, a 1/2 bath, the living room and kitchen/dining area.

We were so pleased with this property. The private winding driveway was a big plus for us. To have an acre yard that was Tropical and with no neighbors within view was Great! The citrus in the yard, the pineapples that ripened while we were there, the fragrant gardenia and other flowers, the starfruit tree were all so nice. The split plan bedrooms with their own bathrooms and access to the huge rear covered deck were wonderful. We spent a lot of time enjoying the back deck. We rode the bicycles and were able to use the body board, fins and other goodies that were there for us to enjoy. The pricing of course can’t be beat.
Recommended for:Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, sightseeing.

Of the many places I have stayed, Makemae house is in the top 3. The owner's description is accurate, and the property is spacious, gracious, clean, comfortable, welcoming. The bird song and frog song are a delight. The garden is a delight, and snorkeling is much closer than 10 miles. Lava viewing is close too. And the many amenities, available to guests, from snorkels to pineapple, make this a "come back again" home.
Recommended for:Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, families with young children.
