We stayed at Eric and Donna's place over February school break with our two young boys, 6 & 3. Our 6 year old attended The Roots School for wilderness skills that week and we stayed at the cabin during most days with our 3 year old enjoying the house and grounds. We skiied and hiked directly from the cabin, listened to music and watched movies, built a great snowman & did some fantastic sledding in the yard. The location was perfect...only 20 minutes to East Calais for camp drop, 20 minutes to Montpelier for dinners and shopping, a 1/2 mile walk/drive down to the Adamant Coop (the first coop in VT) which had all the essentials and Morse Farm for great cross-country skiing. The house is quirky, which is part of the charm. Wood stove to heat and basic mattresses which weren't too great on our middle-aged backs...perfect for the price and we would go back in a heartbeat!

Owner response: Thanks for the review and the snowman. He's still guarding the cottage!

We enjoyed our stay here - our kids (ages 6 and 8) loved being able to go outside and explore on their own, and our dog loved that, too. We loved the peace and quiet. The area around E. Montpelier/Adamant is beautiful - be sure to stop in at the Adamant Co-op. The cottage is pretty much as described in the listing - nothing fancy, but totally adequate - we ate almost all of our meals in the cabin. The best part of our stay was our host, Eric - he gave us great suggestions for things to do and see (hiking, swimming, vineyards, where to get good bread etc.) and even arranged for us to see a local play. Montpelier is close by and it is an easy drive to things like the Cabot Creamery, Ben and Jerry's, and maple sugaring / cider making places. If you like being in the middle of nowhere, yet close to everything, this would be a great place to stay.
