Our German Colony base

My wife and I visited Israel for 12 days and stayed at this cottage home in the German Colony neighborhood in Jerusalem. Because our arrival was to coincide with the onset of Sukkot, Judy and Aaron graciously offered to do some food shopping for us as the stores would be closing. All of the emails were clear and helpful. The cottage itself is very comfortable with a beautiful and leafy little courtyard and a lovely rear patio for relaxing anytime of the day or evening. The kitchen had everything we needed to prepare meals. Judy and Aaron are close by for any questions or help. The German Colony has a nice assortment of cafes and shops on Emek Refaim St. and the walk to the Old City and the center of town is a non-strenuous jaunt of about 20 minutes. We certainly recommend this cottage for anyone visiting the Jerusalem area.

German Colony Cottage was PERFECT!

We were completely delighted with our week at the German Colony Cottage in Jerusalem. I knew from the website photos that it would be charming, and it exceeded all of our expectations! Judy greeted us warmly in person, showed us around and answered all our questions. She even had fresh fruit, nuts and some delicious cookies waiting for us. Staying here made for our favorite place in Israel where we could have breakfast in the charming, landscaped patio, cook our own meals in the extremely well equipped kitchen (I've rented many houses and apartment wherever we travel, but this kitchen was by far the best equipped) and find easy shopping at a well supplied little grocery ( it also had the newspaper available quite early every a.m.) just 2 minutes away and a large supermarket 5 minutes walk away. The furnishings are very attractive and colorful with a comfortable well lit living room where we could relax and read at night. Although the German Colony Cottage is just a few minutes walk to a bustling, charming neighborhood with stores and cafes, the cottage is on a quiet street. The location was ideal for us to pick up a short taxi ride into the Old City to explore or to the incredible Israel Museum. Our days were long and fascinating visiting the Old City three times and the fabulous Israel Museum twice (we do recommend you leave yourself two separate days if possible for the Israel Museum--it's extensive with gorgeous displays) and having a home base rather than a hotel makes it so easy to go back to places to spend more time, then "home" to relax. At the end of the day we truly felt we were coming home. The beautiful, quiet landscaped patio for breakfast started each morning off in a delightful way. The patio garden was always the first place I would go each evening when we returned in the evening after a long day, fascinated by what we had seen but very tired. I would throw open the patio door, turn on the outdoor light, sit in the cool evening air; it always relaxed and re-energized me. We felt right at home, and it made for an unforgettable week in Jerusalem. Our every need as guests had been anticipated by its very thoughtful owners. I could not recommend it more highly!

A great location, and excellent value....clean, quiet, a most pleasant place to stay in Jerusalem. We found it ideal for 2 people. The bonus is the lovely patio. It has all ammenities one would want. We were there 2 weeks. The owners were exceedingly helpful, even leaving a map of nearby laundry, postoffice, ect. It's near very good restaurants, shops, a playground, grocery stores and and we walked to the old city one day, to the makane yehuda market another day, and to Ben Yehuda a couple of nights!

I would absolutely stay here again and have recommended it to friends. Apartment was spotless and well appointed. It is in a lovely, quiet, neighborhood near bus stops, post office, shopping, groceries, and resturants. There are three lovely parks near by of various sizes. Judy and Aaron, the owners were welcoming and extremely helpful with any questions that we had. Our stove ran out of gas and within hours, they had replaced the tank. Well appointed kitchen. Lovely garden with a spot out back for handwashing a few clothes. It's a bit of a walk to the Old City but not difficult on the way there. We would recommend catching a cab on the way home. We had a wonderful visit and would be excited to return to stay someday. Enjoy!!!

We were delighted to find this charming place which surpassed our expectations. Besides having everything we needed for almost 10 days and in a most delightful setting - the patio was a particular delight you don't get in a hotel. The kitchen is up-to-date with a modern stove and a microwave. The rooms are all on one floor, a consideration as you get older. As well, the place was quiet, and only a block and a bit away from the hustle & bustle of trendy Emek Refraim which is plentiful with restaurants and stores. There is a grocery store around the corner from the cottage. It is walkable to just about everywhere touristy, or there are buses and taxis (which charge a fairly low fare) on Emek Retraim. As our plane landed in the middle of the night. Judy, the owner, was obliging in letting us "check in" in 4:30 in the morning. What hotel would let you do that?? We made the right choice to stay there and it felt like we were coming home each time. We recommend it highly.
