This 1864 Victorian 2nd floor flat at 5526 North Street sits on a block with designated heritage houses. The house, once a single family home was converted into two flats - one ground-floor and one second story flat in the 1950s. I purchased it in 2004 and with many experts and artisans employed, we constructed this 1864 house to its original charm and vintage appeal using current building code standards and quality craftsmanship. The restoration of the Douglas Fir staircase adds beauty - the baseboard, window and door trim, sills and casings, wainscoting and moldings are all cut from the replica of 1864 original woodwork tools and made of a new product - MDF, which gives it authenticity. The walls are painted historic hues with glossy white covering the doors and trim.
This vintage flat lies in the heart of Halifax in sought after real estate on the Halifax Peninsula in the downtown core. Historic Properties, Universities, Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre, The Common Oval and Citadel Hill are minutes by car and are a twenty minute walk any day.
I have a very small outdoor space with an urban backyard - sit under leafy trees, or enjoy a charcoal barbecue in the spring and summer.
This accommodation comes with one master queen bedroom and two rooms with double beds. There is a custom built eat-in kitchen with antique love-seat. Ambiance lighting, open area kitchen/living and exposed brick chimney is in keeping with the vintage style. There is one four piece bathroom and a stackable washer and dryer.

Lovely renovated house - just like the photos. Very comfortable, clean and very attentive owner. Lots of useful local info in the apartment. Extremely well equipped kitchen but table really only suitable for 2/3 to sit at. Walking distance to centre of town through mainly residential areas. On quite a busy road so some noise at night but a bedroom at the back was ideal for the lighter sleeper and there is the benefit of a local bus service just outside the door.Beautiful original wooden staircase but would not be easy for families with very young children or those with mobility issues as steep and apartment is solely on the top floor of the house.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car.

Cute place. Very clean and looks just like photos. Owner was very accommodating, let us in earlier than original plan because we arrived earlier. Easy to get to, location was ok. We just parked the car and walked everywhere. Some walks were up to 1/2 hour and we didn't mind because it was easier than trying to find a place to park downtown and then the parking meters only take 90 min at a time and you have to rush back to put money in the meter. condo is equiped with all that we needed. We didn't spend a lot of time in condo, but it has all ammenities that you would need. Sitting area was small, ok for two people but crowded for more.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

We stayed at this wonderful, newly renovated flat for 4 days and nights in early August. My family of 5 had plenty of room to spread out. The 3 bedrooms each have comfortable, queen sized beds. The modern kitchen is fully equipped and has many appliances. The lighting throughout the flat is great. The bathroom has a nice tub, shower and washer/dryer. Our teenagers were thrilled with the internet access we had to our laptop. The location is a little further from the action of Halifax than we had wanted. But the very short drive, and easy parking was totally do-able. On our 15 day trip, and out of the 9 different inns, hotels, cabins, and cottages that we stayed in, this flat was our favorite! We would definitely stay here again.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 6/6

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2004
About the owner: I have been a property owner and manager for over thirty years even though I am a teacher by profession. This restoration was initially purchased for me in order to downsize as a live-in owner occupied set of vintage flats. It has evolved as a family affair and a labour of love that we all have taken pride in presenting. I enjoy offering this accommodation to travelers who want a clean and classic vintage experience in downtown Halifax. This heritage flat is cozy with everything you will need for your holiday or business stay. This spring and summer of 2013, I will be offering monthly accommodation only. I accommodated short term guests for a few weeks over the summers these past three years with great success. The demand for this type of accommodation has been overwhelmingly positive.
Why the Owner Chose Halifax:
This is the heart of the city with heritage dwellings, businesses and new condos. It has all the amenities within minutes in all directions.
The Unique Benefits at this Townhome:
This property has been leased by groups of business people, professionals studying on a short term leave from away, and families who are visiting and want room to spread out, make meals and have the comforts of home while exploring Halifax and beyond. Depending on the number in your party for a monthly stay, Spring and Summer rates will average $1800.00 + or - beginning on May 1st 2013. Please respond with the number in your party and an arrival and departure date. Thank you.
