  We found Little Palm Villa exactly what we needed. Plenty of well screened decks, great kitchen for cooking for entertaining several local friends and ideal dining area for catching the breeze in the evening. We were especially thankful for the laundry facilities because we packed very light. Our only morning debate was whether to have coffee in bed or on the deck.

  Recommended for: People with disabilities, girls getaway, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+.

  The location of the house and view were great. We have been to the island many times so we opted to meet Buck, the manager, at Skinny Legs to escort us to the house. He met us with a friendly wave and led us to the property which is located about 5 minutes from downtown Coral Bay. Buck showed us the ins and outs of the property and was wonderfully friendly. The house fits a family of four comfortably. The house needs a little tender loving care to get it back in shape. Its screens are in bad need of replacement as there are large holes everywhere and in some places, they have hot glue gunned new pieces of screen over these holes. Some appliances, like the toaster oven, were not working and the gas stove had to be lit by lighter and was missing a knob. The office functioned as the second bedroom but its’ roof leaked and dripped down onto the bed each time it rained. The mattress was so soft that my two sons rolled to the center of the mattress. The master bed was fine. At night we often had unwanted critters (roaches) that would fly across the house. Because of the openness of the house the kitchen had small ants that came through the window screens and were ever present on the countertops. We have lived in Florida so we were well versed in how to store food so that the critters can’t get at it but this house put us to the test. The wireless internet was not functioning, some doors had peeling paint and the safe was rusted shut. The house was priced very reasonably which attracted us to it but in going to the island again, we would not consider staying in this unit.

  Owner response: Unfortunately the reviewer came shortly after a storm before the end of hurricane season. All screens were replaced and other issues addressed before the review was even written. The problem with high end stoves is difficulty in replacing a knob and Pam spent over $150 and many hours obtaining a new set. Anyone who stays on St John should be aware that even with new wireless routers and surge protectors electronics are at the mercy of local utilities. Internet service has been excellent for the past year with DSL.

  Loved staying at Little Palm! The location is teriffic - it's in Coral Bay which is friendly and laid back. It's about 5 mins or less to get to a market for supplies or to the restaurants in Coral Bay. The house is OPEN (screened in) and we loved that. At night it sounds like you are in the jungle - frogs and bird sounds. One night wild donkeys visited the outside - we heard them and saw their hoof prints. They caused no problem - it was fun. We enjoyed the few small lizards that roam the property and help keep the bugs away. The house is well appointed. LOTS of nice quality linens and towels. Ample kitchen supplies. We were impressed that there were spices, soaps, a new sponge in the kitchen, towels... it was easy to use the kitchen. After seeing that some homes have no parking, we were grateful that Little Palm has a place to park and turn around. I'm not sure that 4x drive is mandatory, but we were glad we had it and would recommend it. There is a nice supply of snorkle fins to choose from - we brought ours but problably didn't need to. DO bring your own mask and snorkle. We had a problem with water pressure and the owners were IMMEDIATELY responsive and had someone there to fix it fast. The owners were friendly and apologetic about it too. This place is very comfortable and well maintained, not elegant. I think it's a tremendous value and a wonderful place to spend 10 days as we did. It was nice to have internet and a usable local phone. We all enjoyed meeting Uncle Boozy (corner bar-b-q) and the owner of the Donkey Diner. Ask to sample the Donkey Diner's newly developed hot sauce - WOW, it's great! FYI - we spent the first night in Cruz Bay and did not enjoy it. We like Coral Bay alot better. We highly recommend Low Key as a dive shop (Cruz Bay) - they were exceptional for my sons to become certified divers and patient with a reluctant diver. Also, we did the day trip from the Westin to The Baths and cave snorkling. The staff was fantastic and the trip really well organized and despite that, the trip was underwhelming and the money would have been better spent chartering a half-day private sail. We recommend the Little Palm!

  We stayed there this year for two weeks, beginning Feb. 13th, 20ll. WE LOVED IT THERE!! Pam and Bob are wonderful owners, and we felt very priviledged to stay in their home. The kitchen (newly built) is spectacular and very well stocked with dishes, pots, etc. The appliances, dish-washer, fridge, microwave and stove all worked well. The stove temperature dial is in celcius rather than the farenheight that our stoves at home have , but the conversion chart is on the side of the fridge. The burners are gas, with the coolest glass wind-shield we have ever seen! The tables, dining and patio are wonderful for seating at many locations. Living room has a nice flat screen T V on cable -- gets all channels . The guest bedroom / office is off the kitchen, and has a comfortable queen size bed . The master bedroom on the lower level is huge, and exceedingly comfortable. Both full size baths are great, especially the upstairs one, which is full of live orchids and is screened to the outdoors, SO BEAUTIFUL AND SPECIAL. The best part of this home is the screened porch, which is enormous, with great views of Coral Bay harbor. It has a really cool telescope, two full patio tables which seat a total of 10, and really nice, comfortable outdoor furniture. The padded lounge, loveseat and chairs are wonderful. The living area has a full bar, with two refrigerators, one for wine. This small fridge is really cold, great for beer and soda. We found the Wi-Fi to work well and was hand y for us during our stay. Washer and dryer are conveniently located off the master suite. Steps down are screened in and easy to navigate. Trade wind breezes keep it comfortable, and are strong at times. The only down side was that the road up this year had major wash outs from the heavy rains in October. We were told repairs and some paving are planned for this summer .In the evenings we noticed no-seeums came out on a fairly regular basis. This is not unusual on the island of St. John, and we have seem them at other properties we have rented for the past 15 years.We certainly enjoyed our stay at Little Palm and someday would love to return there.

  Beautiful spacious home, great view. Home has everything! Wonderful kitchen. Upstair bath is a dream! We enjoyed our stay sooo much, and will return. Master bedroom is very large, and has its own deck and hot tub. The screen porch upstairs is the best!! Lots of comfortable furniture. Road is a little funky, but being worked on, after all it's St. John, its an adventure.

  Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

  Pam, We had a special and unforgettable Christmas @ Little Palm Villa! It was everything you said! We all had our favorite spots in the house, Bruce liked the hammock, Chris tried out the spa, we all spent a lot of time on the front porch and my personal Fav was the upstairs shower! Mike was very good to meet us and help us get settled - he provided great suggestions for snorkling and eating (we had a delicious meal at the tourist trap!) We bought a loaf of banana choco chip bread from their new bakery,and we enjoyed it for days. We'll keep all the good memories with us for a long time to come. Thanks for sharing your special home!
