Accommodations:  Condo, 2 Bedrooms + Office, 1 Bath (Sleeps 4-6)

Keywords:  Condominium

Superb two bedroom two-story spacious 1300 sq. ft. upper duplex in a late nineteenth century townhouse in the heart of “Le Quartier des Spectacles” in downtown Montreal. Newly furnished and fully equipped (cable, high-speed wireless internet, 40” flat screen TV with PVR, air conditioning, laundry room, walk-in closet) this apartment has plenty of character with exposed brick and beams and restored original floor and mouldings on the upper story with a rooftop deck that leads off the master bedroom. With stone walls 1 1/2 feet thick and double glazed windows it is suprisingly quiet considering the location!. The main floor also has an office size room with a pullout double futon, the bathroom has a sunken “Roman” cast-iron tub and there is a garage parking space(!).

Here are some testamonials from past guests:

Hi Ed,
Thank you so much for providing us with such a perfect spot from which to experience Montreal! We've biked the city nearly every day, eaten all over and gotten a great sense of lots of what is very special about your home...what a great place!
Kate K., Pittsburgh, PA.

Everything was perfect! We'll be back!
The Crowthers, CT.

Thanks for the great accommodation this weekend! The place was fully equipped, extremely clean and very comfortable. We really enjoyed our stay! I will be sure to recommend the place to anyone I know heading to Montreal!
Jonathan D., London Ont.

Bonjour Ed,
Merci pour votre accueil cet après-midi. L'appart est vraiment sympa.
Nous avons passé un excellent séjour a rue Saint-Urbain,
Merci encore,
Christine. I, Boston, Ma.

We really liked the location and the layout. We wanted an urban, cultural vacation, so the proximity to the Museum of Modern Art was perfect! The apartment was scrupulously clean and nicely decorated. The kitchen was especially well equipped. You gave us a reliable character reference and thank you for dealing with us so honestly!
Regards,
Madeleine, VT.

PLEASE NOTE: Some clients have expressed concerns regarding internet scams in relation to my rental property. Unfortunaley googling my name will bring up hits (on the site 800 notes for example)that talk about cons being run on the internet. The truth of the matter is that someone did take all of my rental information when I advertised on Craigslist in 2009 and then put the apartment at a much lower price and asked for a deposit to be wired to him. I became aware of this when people began constantly ringing the doorbell asking to see my $600 a month apartment so I contacted Craigslist to investigate this fraud. They informed me that the most they could do was take the ad off their site but could not guarantee against such postings in the future. I was later contacted by someone in Toronto who had unfortunately sent money and had then reported the matter to the police. Apparently these scams were being run on an international scale and the appropriate authorities have been notified. Should you be interested in renting my unit and have any questions whatsoever regarding the legitimacy of this property or of my identity please do not hesitate to contact me and I will provide you with necessary proof.
Sincerely
Ed Wingell

The Unique Benefits at this Condo

Montreal boasts a very vibrant summer festival season and this is the perfect place from which to enjoy it. Many events take place in the Quartier des Spectacles, a stone's throw from the front door. During the Montreal International Jazz Festival my street gets closed down, this makes for fun people watching as thousands stream to and from the many free outdoor concerts. You can also simply relax on the back deck and listen to any one the nightly outdoor shows.
The apartment is also a short walk from St. Catherine's, St. Laurent and St. Denis, streets that are a must see during any visit, each boasting it's unique flavor of reataurants, shops and "terrasses" (patios). Old Montreal is a 20min. walk (you can see the spires of the reknown Notre Dame Basilica from the front door) and for venturing further the subway is a 3min. walk. Guests who travel by car often never take it out of the garage, one of my guests even gave me subway tickets she had never ended up using. All in all a great place to stay to enjoy everything Montreal has to offer!

Owner's Map of Montreal

I have been a musician with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra for ten years, I bought the house to be close to work and renovated the property in 2005. I have always rented long term and in 2009 I decided to furnish the apartment and rent short term in the summer and winter seasons.

A great place to stay in the perfect location

Situated on a quiet street in a perfectly central location, this is a nice two-story upper half of a duplex with all the amenities you'll need for your stay. Walking distance to several different neighborhoods of interest, downtown, and close to the metro and only a stop or two away from the main metro hub to transfer to the other lines. This place is a bargain even for just a few travelers. Ed is a gracious host and helpful with anything you might need. I've stayed here twice now and plan to come back. Highly recommended.

Your apartment was very comfortable and relaxing and had plenty of space for 2 adults and 3 kids. The location was great--we could walk just about anywhere and especially enjoyed getting to hear the free concerts of Les Francofolies!

The Price and Location Can't be Beat and the Landlord is AWESOME!!

Guest: CRYSTAL (BOYNTON BEACH, FL)
Date of Stay: 05/17/11 Review Submitted: 05/31/11

THE APARTMENT: Everything was clean and well maintained. The living room was very comfortable. Especially the leather recliner (I could have slept there the entire time)! and the TV had plenty of options to keep us entertained during the (little) time we weren't out and about. The kitchen was well stocked with all the dishes, pots/pans, utensils, etc that we needed during our 9 days in Montreal. We had 5 people in our travel group & had more than enough room for everyone. The two bedrooms upstairs are HUGE! Each has a queen bed, a love seat, and chests. The office, downstairs, was perfect for our single friend who snores really loud :) we didn't hear him the entire time! If his girlfriend had come with us the full size futon in the office would have been fine to sleep the both of them as well. We didn't have a chance to enjoy the upstairs deck but the smokers in our group were glad to have the downstairs balcony. The bathroom had lots of space for all of our things. The roman tub was long and deep enough to stretch out and relax in! The shower is quite small - it's the only odd thing we encountered but wasn't troublesome. THE LOCATION: Smack dab in the middle of EVERYTHING. It really doesn't matter what age you are there will be many enjoyable things nearby! Our group consisted of five people in our 30's. We had a car but did a lot of walking by choice. We were able to walk to Old Montreal and the Port (~25min), China Town (~15min), St. Laurent (~2min), St. Denis (~5min), St. Catherine (~5min). We drove to Mount Royal (~10min). The closest subway stop was 2 blocks and there are bike rentals are all over the place! THE LANDLORD, ED: What nice thing can I not say about him?!?! He was very good with the lines of communication. He was always available if we had questions. He is extremely nice and hospitable. He makes you feel welcome and comfortable in his home. The booking process was very clear. He returned our deposit in a timely fashion. Ed is a wonderful man and if I were ever to return to Montreal I would DEFINITELY rent this apartment again! TIPS: Pack Light - there is a washer and dryer in the apartment! If you need the internet bring your laptop - there is no computer. Parking your car in the garage can take a couple days to get used to. Look into Bixi Bike rentals & locations. Remember: This is not a hotel. You are a guest in Ed's home. Please be respectful, he deserves it!!

Perfect Weekend Getaway

Guest: Anonymous
Date of Stay: 05/13/11 Review Submitted: 05/20/11

Everything about our stay was perfect. Three friends and I came up from Boston for a weekend and although it was a bit rainy, we had a great time. Ed met us personally at the apartment, even though we arrived at 6pm on a Friday. The photographs do not do the apartment justice. Although it's 2 bedrooms and an office, it's essentially a 3-bedroom apartment and is an excellent bargain. All of the furnishings and linens were in immaculate condition. The kitchen was clean and had all of the equipment necessary to prepare meals. There was also a washer, dryer, and iron available in case it was needed. Internet and phone calls were free, which was great for people coming from the U.S. who may not have working portable devices. The roof deck is gorgeous and would be lovely in warmer weather. The neighborhood is also exceptional. Google Maps street photos do not do it justice, as the school buildings across the street were still under construction when the photos were taken. The street is very well maintained, quiet at night, and yet only a half-mile walk to the heart of r. Ste. Catherine. I hope to return to r. St. Urbain in the future - we could not have asked for more. Merci beaucoup, Ed - à là prochaine!

We stayed here in May 2011 during a conference. The apartment is super tidy and well equipped. It comfortably sleeps 6 people (2 double bedrooms + sofa bed in the office). We had a great time here and wished we could stay a little longer. Will definitely go back next time I'm in Montreal.

Montreal apartment review

Guest: Sophia (Cambridge, Massachusetts)
Date of Stay: 05/01/11 Review Submitted: 05/10/11

I recently spent 5 nights in this apartment in Montreal with 4 friends. We loved the apartment and felt right at home. It was beautiful, had all the amenities we needed, and was in a great location. The apartment looked extremely new and the decor was modern. It was comfortable and conducive to both working and socializing. Only downsides were having one bathroom for 5 people and the shower was quite small. The price was quite reasonable and I would recommend this apartment or stay in it again if I could!

Wonderful week in Montreal

Guest: Scottlaw (Baltimore, MD)
Date of Stay: 03/27/10 Review Submitted: 04/07/10

Our family spent a lovely week in Montreal and the surrounding area. We found Mr. Wingell's apartment to be just as described and the location could not have been better. We were able to walk to museums, restaurants, movies, shopping, and the metro. I would recommend this property for a small family or group looking for an urban retreat - no car needed!
