Private Homes villa description
What makes this particular home so special and unique?
'Cochiti'- at 23 Mesa Encantado, is the highest free-standing casita within the Pueblo Encantado development, providing the ultimate in seclusion and tranquility along with magnificent, unobstructed views of the Sangre de Cristo mountains and spectacular New Mexican sunsets/stargazing. This casita is nestled into the foothills and is all on one level with the main patio expanding the entire length of the casita. Both bedrooms are very spacious~ the master has a full west-facing window wall and a screened French door affording gorgeous mountain views and it has an authentic kiva wood-burning fireplace. The guest bedroom has 2 screened French doors that open onto a private patio with it's own seating area and outdoor kiva fireplace. Both bedrooms have new carpet (installed fall of 2012) and beautiful newly renovated bathrooms complete with travertine shower walls and granite countertops. The living room also has a corner kiva fireplace, wood beams and has floor to ceiling windows with exquisite mountain views from all. There are 2 large upholstered chairs, a bench seat and a leather sofa that opens into a double bed for extra sleeping capacity. The kitchen is fully appointed, complete with a kitchen bar with 2 bar stools and there is also a cozy dining room, although the outside dining table is 'the' place to savor any homemade meals! All the unusual furnishings, original southwest art and unique, decorative accessories have all been hand-selected by the owner and owner's daughter- who's a designer with 2 stores in the Vail Valley of Colorado. Celebrities such as Robert Redford, Robert Michener, Liz Taylor and Bruce Springstein have stayed at Cochiti numerous times.
The newly opened 5 star Four Seasons 'Encantado Spa & Restaurant' is located just across the street (only a 10 minute walk) and offers fine dining, a bar and an array of luxurious spa treatments. Hiking trails are literally right outside your door at Cochiti and you can venture right into the heart of the Santa Fe National Forest. Other activities such as horseback riding, skiing, golf, tennis, rafting, biking, etc. are located nearby. There is also a beautiful outdoor heated pool on the premises (just a short 10 minute walk or 1 minute drive away from the casita) which is open from the end of May to mid October.
Do keep in mind that although Cochiti is an ultra private retreat, it is conveniently located only 10 minutes from Downtown Santa Fe, with it's world class adobe architecture, some of the world's finest shops and restaurants, galleries and museums. And, it is only minutes away from Tesuque Village (with 2 great restaurants and several galleries)and the world famous Santa Fe Opera and Tesuque Flea Market. Click the 'View Calendar' link now for availability information~ we fill up fast! We'd also be happy to tell you about our favorite picks for restaurants, recreation, shopping and gallery strolling.
We look forward to having you as our guest! We know you'll be as enchanted with our casita at Cochiti and Santa Fe as we are!

A Great Place for a Vacation
A Great Place for a Vacation
We spent a week at this wonderful place out of the city. It is very well maintained, quiet and has a great view of the night sky. We were pleasantly surprised to find so much privacy and isolation from the neighbors. It is quite close to downtown Santa Fe (not close enough to walk) but is easily accessible by car. We would definitely stay here on our next visit to Santa Fe.

This property is an amazing combination of comfort, spectacular décor, quiet, and complete privacy. We will never forget relaxing on the patio with a bottle of wine enjoying the afternoon sunsets, the black sky with white twinkling stars at night, or the sound of silence outside. A short hike to the top of the mountain above the casita also provides a panorama of the area that is quite breathtaking. Overall, this casita couldn't possible be any more charming than it already is, and we can't imagine a better place to call home away from home.

Excellent home away from home.
Excellent home away from home.
This Minnesota family of four was looking for a summer vacation in the Santa Fe area. For lodging, we wanted a fully equiped kitchen, laundry, two bedrooms, and views. This house was perfect. We enjoyed making breakfast and dinner in the kitchen daily. Lots of sitting room indoors and on the patios outdoors. With our rental car, the 10-minute drive into downtown Santa Fe was easily accessable from the house. With the quiet, remote location of the house, we enjoyed our evenings sitting on the patios watching the stars. We would certainly recommend this comfortable, spacious property.

We thoroughly enjoyed our month-long stay at Cochiti in October. The views are indeed spectacular. The photos don't begin to show how beautiful the views are. We were completely smitten. The casita has plenty of room for entertaining. It's nicely decorated and very comfortable. The only negative is that the casita needs some TLC. Carpets were stained and one of the bathtub faucets leaked badly and was not fixable. However, whenever there once a problem, the on-site maintenance people were very responsive and quick to fix things. The owner said that new carpets will be installed and the bathrooms will be updated soon. The little town of Tesuque is charming. The Tesuque Village Market just a few minutes away became a favorite of ours. Great food and great margaritas. We went down there every morning for newspapers. Besides the local papers, the market even carries the Wall Street Journal and New York Times. It was very easy to get into the city of Santa Fe, a quick ten minute drive. Overall, we highly recommend this casita.

Owner response: Jim, again, so glad you loved our place. We enjoyed having you as our guests. And just so others are aware, now that the busy holiday rental season is over, we are in the midst of a total bath renovation (in both bathrooms)-- new travetine tile, shower heads, cabinets, sinks, faucets, granite countertops, etc. And, we are doing brand new carpeting in both bedrooms. So, those that are staying with us from April 2012 on, will reap the benefits of these lovely upgrades! Thanks much, jan
Glad we chose this location!
Glad we chose this location!
Had a really great time during our week stay and were so glad that we chose this location. It's about a 10 minute drive to Santa Fe, but after looking at the rentals available "close to the plaza", we were so glad that we chose to be where we had some privacy and beautiful views . We were close to the opera and Tesuque Village...(EXCELLENT brick oven pizza)! Got off to a rough start, no air conditioning, cable or laundry soap, but all were fixed by the 2nd morning and since we were gone most of the day and the temperatures dropped at night, we really didn't miss the AC. Many nights were spent on the verandas, watching the sunsets and feeling the breeze. THe house is beautifully decorated and has everything you could need, and while the house is older and could use a little TLC, we have stayed at many vacation homes throughout the country and because of the amenities, location and the the layout of the house, we would definately come back and would choose to stay here again. It truly was one of the best places we have stayed and can't wait to go back. Be sure and visit the Tesuque Pueblo Flea market. Found some really great bargains and was a refreshing respite from the pricy galleries and shops at DT Santa Fe.

Owner response: Thanks Leslie...so glad you enjoyed our place. The AC and cable was a very isolated incident (the cable goes out now and then like any service)....we are so sorry that happened to you, but glad you got immediate response and had such a great time. Please come back again soon!

My sister and our husband's stayed here for 4 days. It was our first time in NM. The house was the prefect location for us to do exploring of Santa Fe, Taos and the surrounding area. The house was awesome and very comfortable. The deck and patio were georgous. We wished we had a few more days. Next Time!

Great views, nice layout
Great views, nice layout
We were looking for a place my family could hang out, cook, and yet have access to all that Santa Fe had to offer and, well, this place fit the bill perfectly. I was pleasantly surprised when I first walked on to the property and saw the lovely individual patios and the way the house was situated to offer some spectacular views. When I stepped inside I was even more pleased - the photos really didn't do it justice. The open floor plan, large living room and high ceilings were all complimented by tasteful Santa Fe decor. The kitchen, although a tiny bit out of date, had a great view from the sink out to a beautiful hillside and was open to the dining area and living room. We enjoyed a great feast of a meal here and that made the experience all the better. The bedrooms, baths and overall comfort for sleeping was excellent, although the bathrooms could stand a light renovation, but everything was really nice, clean and well-maintained. We're hoping to come back to this house any time we plan a trip to Santa Fe. Definitely worth it!

I stayed there last year with several girlfriends and we were all awestuck by the serenity and privacy of the complex and this particular unit. Town is so close, but being in the country is where it's at. Love the decor and all the art in the unit, but especially love the patios- the main one is huge and the views, sunsets, stargazing and smells are THE best! We recommend this place to anyone that wants to experience something very special. Thank you for sharing this great home with us.

Santa Fe is such a wonderful and relaxing place to be and this casita made it even better. It is so spacious with large bedrooms and even larger decks to relax on. My husband and I would light a fire in the outdoor fireplace every night and relax with a cocktail. We will definitely be back!

We stayed at this wonderful place last year and it is beyond words- private, secluded and tranquil and we just loved hanging out and doing nothing. The weather was spectacular and the stars were unbelievable. We also enjoyed hiking in the hills right outside the door! It is definately the best location since it is the highest unit there. We also loved Santa Fe and it was so convenient to get to town, shopping etc.- a nice peaceful drive back at the end of the day.

Year Purchased: 1988
About the owner: The owners of Cochiti, Rolf and June Rosenthal, reside in Stamford, CT most of the year, but have a special affinity for their Santa Fe casita. They love coming to Cochiti once or twice a year (it's one of June's favorite places on the planet) but they also love sharing the special magic and charm of this casita and the experience of Tesuque and Santa Fe with guests from around the globe. Come see for yourself why this special place 'gets under your skin and into your heart.'
Why the Owner Chose Private Homes:
June and Rolf have a deep love of the southwest (and for Santa Fe in particular) and both love Native American lore, art and culture. Horseback riding in the area and the 'ranch' feel of Pueblo Encantado was the real attraction. This particular casita (Cochiti #230) is the best location on the property due to the fact that it is the highest one, is free-standing and has the best views and most privacy, so they were thrilled when it became available. June owns a renowned real estate firm in Connecticut and had been looking for a very special place in Santa Fe for some time. They had looked at others within Pueblo Encantado, but when Cochiti came on the market, they knew that it was 'the' one and the rest is history.
The Unique Benefits at this Villa:
The tranquility, serenity and peace that is experienced when at this home is unsurpassed....anywhere! One can literally spend hours/days on either patio taking in the magnificent mountain views, abundant sunshine, the star-filled night sky and fresh pinon and sage-filled air. It is simply 'Magical'!
