Owner's Profile
Owner Description
Year Purchased: 1988
The owners of Cochiti, Rolf and June Rosenthal, reside in Stamford, CT most of the year, but have a special affinity for their Santa Fe casita. They love coming to Cochiti once or twice a year (it's one of June's favorite places on the planet) but they also love sharing the special magic and charm of this casita and the experience of Tesuque and Santa Fe with guests from around the globe. Come see for yourself why this special place "gets under your skin and into your heart."
Why the Owner Chose Private Homes
June and Rolf have a deep love of the southwest (and for Santa Fe in particular) and both love Native American lore, art and culture. Horseback riding in the area and the "ranch" feel of Pueblo Encantado was the real attraction. This particular casita (Cochiti #230) is the best location on the property due to the fact that it is the highest one, is free-standing and has the best views and most privacy, so they were thrilled when it became available. June owns a renowned real estate firm in Connecticut and had been looking for a very special place in Santa Fe for some time. They had looked at others within Pueblo Encantado, but when Cochiti came on the market, they knew that it was "the" one and the rest is history.
The Unique Benefits of this Villa
The tranquility, serenity and peace that is experienced when at this home is unsurpassed....anywhere! One can literally spend hours/days on either patio taking in the magnificent mountain views, abundant sunshine, the star-filled night sky and fresh pinon and sage-filled air. It is simply "Magical"!

We thoroughly enjoyed our month-long stay at Cochiti in October. The views are indeed spectacular. The photos don't begin to show how beautiful the views are. We were completely smitten. The casita has plenty of room for entertaining. It's nicely decorated and very comfortable. The only negative is that the casita needs some TLC. Carpets were stained and one of the bathtub faucets leaked badly and was not fixable. However, whenever there once a problem, the on-site maintenance people were very responsive and quick to fix things. The owner said that new carpets will be installed and the bathrooms will be updated soon. The little town of Tesuque is charming. The Tesuque Village Market just a few minutes away became a favorite of ours. Great food and great margaritas. We went down there every morning for newspapers. Besides the local papers, the market even carries the Wall Street Journal and New York Times. It was very easy to get into the city of Santa Fe, a quick ten minute drive. Overall, we highly recommend this casita.
Owner response:Jim, again, so glad you loved our place. We enjoyed having you as our guests. And just so others are aware, now that the busy holiday rental season is over, we are in the midst of a total bath renovation (in both bathrooms)-- new travetine tile, shower heads, cabinets, sinks, faucets, granite countertops, etc. And, we are doing brand new carpeting in both bedrooms. So, those that are staying with us from April 2012 on, will reap the benefits of these lovely upgrades! Thanks much, jan

Had a really great time during our week stay and were so glad that we chose this location. It's about a 10 minute drive to Santa Fe, but after looking at the rentals available "close to the plaza", we were so glad that we chose to be where we had some privacy and beautiful views . We were close to the opera and Tesuque Village...(EXCELLENT brick oven pizza)! Got off to a rough start, no air conditioning, cable or laundry soap, but all were fixed by the 2nd morning and since we were gone most of the day and the temperatures dropped at night, we really didn't miss the AC. Many nights were spent on the verandas, watching the sunsets and feeling the breeze. THe house is beautifully decorated and has everything you could need, and while the house is older and could use a little TLC, we have stayed at many vacation homes throughout the country and because of the amenities, location and the the layout of the house, we would definately come back and would choose to stay here again. It truly was one of the best places we have stayed and can't wait to go back. Be sure and visit the Tesuque Pueblo Flea market. Found some really great bargains and was a refreshing respite from the pricy galleries and shops at DT Santa Fe.
Owner response:Thanks Leslie...so glad you enjoyed our place. The AC and cable was a very isolated incident (the cable goes out now and then like any service)....we are so sorry that happened to you, but glad you got immediate response and had such a great time. Please come back again soon!

My sister and our husband's stayed here for 4 days. It was our first time in NM. The house was the prefect location for us to do exploring of Santa Fe, Taos and the surrounding area. The house was awesome and very comfortable. The deck and patio were georgous. We wished we had a few more days. Next Time!

We were looking for a place my family could hang out, cook, and yet have access to all that Santa Fe had to offer and, well, this place fit the bill perfectly. I was pleasantly surprised when I first walked on to the property and saw the lovely individual patios and the way the house was situated to offer some spectacular views. When I stepped inside I was even more pleased - the photos really didn't do it justice. The open floor plan, large living room and high ceilings were all complimented by tasteful Santa Fe decor. The kitchen, although a tiny bit out of date, had a great view from the sink out to a beautiful hillside and was open to the dining area and living room. We enjoyed a great feast of a meal here and that made the experience all the better. The bedrooms, baths and overall comfort for sleeping was excellent, although the bathrooms could stand a light renovation, but everything was really nice, clean and well-maintained. We're hoping to come back to this house any time we plan a trip to Santa Fe. Definitely worth it!

I stayed there last year with several girlfriends and we were all awestuck by the serenity and privacy of the complex and this particular unit. Town is so close, but being in the country is where it's at. Love the decor and all the art in the unit, but especially love the patios- the main one is huge and the views, sunsets, stargazing and smells are THE best! We recommend this place to anyone that wants to experience something very special. Thank you for sharing this great home with us.

Santa Fe is such a wonderful and relaxing place to be and this casita made it even better. It is so spacious with large bedrooms and even larger decks to relax on. My husband and I would light a fire in the outdoor fireplace every night and relax with a cocktail. We will definitely be back!

We stayed at this wonderful place last year and it is beyond words- private, secluded and tranquil and we just loved hanging out and doing nothing. The weather was spectacular and the stars were unbelievable. We also enjoyed hiking in the hills right outside the door! It is definately the best location since it is the highest unit there. We also loved Santa Fe and it was so convenient to get to town, shopping etc.- a nice peaceful drive back at the end of the day.
