Our property is only 3/4 mile from the ocean, but is located in a shady stand of trees which can be viewed from the high windows in the living room. Two decks, one screened, provide great places for cook-outs, picnics and cocktails. Outside shower next to hot tub on deck on ground floor with outside firepit. Ground floor has a foosball table and seating area great for kids or teenagers. Also includes a sofa bed.

Main floor has large kitchen fully stocked for cooking and eating utensils, and dining area, master bedroom with queen bed and TV and bath, and a wood fireplace and large screen TV with stereo system in living room. There is an open deck with gas grill as well as a screened porch on this level. Next floor has two bedrooms with queen size beds and TVs, a full bath, also a loft office area, with TV and computer desk, as well as an extra double bed. Up from there is a small cupulo with single bed and balcony. Outside patio off the ground floor has a small fire pit that backs up to wooded area with trails that lead to the Nags Head Woods preserve. Covered parking area has 3 bays - can hold a boat or RV.

The house is at about MP 8 1/2, only a 3/4 mile walk to the ocean, or few minutes drive to the beach which has many accesses with free parking and is life guarded. The house also backs up to the Nags Head Woods preserve which is the largest Maritime forest on the East Coast and has a great visitor center and many trails, some to the Sound. You can head out from the house on trails and walk to the sound in about 30 minutes where you can watch the sunset. Only 2 miles away is Jockey's Ridge with a large hang-gliding school, also 2 miles away to Wright Brother's National Monument site.

There is great fishing from the shore, or nearby fishing piers. Also can do off-shore charters from Pirate's Cove or Oregon Inlet. Nearby Manteo, about 15 miles, offers great shops, the Lost Colony Outdoor Theater, the Elizabethan Gardens, and the NC Aquarium. The Outer Banks offers the best surfing on the East Coast. Many golf courses in this area. Many great seafood restaurants nearby or buy and cook your own!

Our property is very pet friendly (our dogs love the woods, but make sure yours have tick protection and heart-worm medication is up to date). Must be house-broken, of course!

Beach chairs (2), beach umbrella, and boogie boards (2) are available. We provide basic linens for all beds, and towels, but you might want to bring more beach towels.

Must be over 25 to rent.

Please feel free to call owner Jay with any and all questions any time at the number listed. We can also email more pictures.

Our party of 10 family members had a GREAT time in this large, out of the traffic home. The location was great as far as getting to the beach and the Sound, and we were close to all the stores, yet out of the way. We took a drive all the way to Okacroke Island and had a wonderful time. It was great to be able to come home to this great house. We brought bicycles and they were used alot. It would be great to have a couple of those that came with the house. The neighborhood is great for bicycling. The house was very comfortable and fit our needs great. The home was tastefully decorated, had everything we needed and we were all sad to have to leave! Jay, the owner, was always just a phone call away and came thru on every request. Couple of things that I must add: 4 bedrooms is stretching it. The cupola room is great for a teenager, but has no door or dressers, not really a bedroom. The beds were more like fulls, not queens. The fold out couch in the lower section NEEDS ATTENTION. We were unable to use it and just slept on the couch (though the teenager in our group didn't seem to mind.) The indoor screen room NEEDS NEW FURNITURE! It is a great space but only accomodates 4 due to the lack of suitable seating. There was one beach chair, no boogie boards. The yard could definitely use some TLC and it would look amazing! If you are looking for a relaxing vacation with plenty of amenities, out of the noise and crowds of traffic, this is a great place! Would DEFINITELY recommend this facility to anyone.

Pictures do not do this home any justice... It was last minute, very affordable and was well beyond my expectations. Oh ... and it was clean. The owner was great and extremely accommodating. Vacations are all about relaxing.... This home is convenient to everything yet gives you that quiet time away from the hustle and bustle when you need it. If your not in the hot tub relaxing, you can sit by the fire or wake up early and take a great hike to the sound with the conveniently owner marked trails..... I would certainly stay here again, again, and again... BEST PART..... NO RENTAL AGENT or ACCOMODATIONs FEE of $150. Jay... CANT THANK YOU ENOUGH

After doing extensive research and reading numerous reviews, some positive some negative, I decided to take my family and in laws to stay at this vacation home on holly st. in kill devil hills on the Outer Banks. We couldn't have been happier with the accommodations and service we received, not to mention the beautiful walks and views this home afforded us, all while being centrally located near numerous historic landmarks. Each day my family was faced with many different options for fun activities. We spent a lot of time setting up our camp at the beach access just across the main road which was very convenient because family members were able to come and go from the house at their leisure. After getting enough sun, my wife and I enjoyed strolls through the "nags head woods" and the kids had a great time biking through the forest paths behind the home. We found the inside of the home quite spacious and remarkably cozy and although we had to call the owner for instructions regarding hot tub operations, once we got it running it was an evening highlight for all of the family, even my mother in law who can be quite difficult to please. After taking a walk on the jockeys ridge sand dunes she would make martini and relax in the jets each evening allowing my wife and I to cook dinner in the spacious , well equipped kitchen. It was a great stay and we cant wait to return this fall as we intend to rent this house for a wedding weekend. Great location! Great house! Great memories! Special thanks to the owner for his local knowledge and activity suggestions.

We stayed at this beautiful home in the spring and thoroughly enjoyed it. I was going to book again for the fall and saw the bad reviews. I called the owner and he told me why the bad reviews and aspects of the renters. We booked for this fall and are looking forward to another stay in a great house nestled in the woods, not far from the beach!!

Not really sure where to begin. My family traveled all the way from Montana for a family reunion. This house is NOT a 4-bedroom. House. My husband and I along with our daughter slept in the loft area on an old matress that WE moved from the Master bedroom. The sheets and linens provided looked as if they were at least 10 years old with holes and strings hanging from them. The hot tub was gross. It seemed as if was not cleaned or serviced upon our check in. I do know what a clean hot tub looks like and smells like as I have owned one before. The grill was broken and rusted and after complaining of this we did get a new rack for the grill three days later. The owner also delieverd a new box spring since the one in the Master Bedroom was split in half. It took two days to get that delieverd. The patio furniture was junk. The owner did deliver a piece of plywood to put under the seats on the patio couch. I guess he thought that would make it better. The downstairs pull out couch had mold on it so obviously we did not sleep on that. I am glad the owner took time to deleiver these goods to us but it would have been nice had he dealt with all this before we got there. He also had to have someone there and would not let himself in to take care of these items, which I thought was wierd. The house was not cleaned very well at all and the owner gave the excuse that the people that checked out that day were real "party" people and left the house trashed. That is not our fault and I thought it was a lame excuse. There was dust everywhere and some of the light fixtures had cobwebs. There was also blood on the wall from these party people which we cleaned and my husband had to go to walmart to purchase a mop and floor cleaner so that our daughter could crawl around on the floor. This house was a huge disappointment and I really felt bad for my in-laws who we the ones that rented the house for the family. The house is close to the beach and the air conditioner did work. If that is all you care about I would recommend you stay here. If you are looking for a clean comfortable home..keep looking and fork out the extra money because it would be worth it.

Owner response: In response to this review I don't know where to begin: some of the strangest people I have ever met. I guess your best bet is to look at the other reviews. I work hard as owner to make sure people are happy with their stay and so went right down there when they called. She said she and her husband had to sleep on the outside of the bed for it to work. I mentioned that both me and my wife had no problem and no renters had complained before. She immediately screamed, "Are you calling me fat?!" Right then I knew these people were going to be hard to please: I was not prepared for what I heard next. After hearing the rest of their complaints they said: "We will write a great review for a certain amount of money (this website won't let us mention a specific amount)." We negotiated to a certain amount, and the next day all the complaints were remedied. I told myself I would never be help hostage at the threat of a bad review again. When we went in to clean we found they had rearranged all the furniture around so I had to call in extra help to rearrange and clean. After they left they emailed us a note that said, "we had a great time!." They also asked if we could mail them some medication they had left in a night stand. Being concerned about prescription drugs, we immediately sent it to them. It takes all kinds. The only thing I hold against them is they welched on a deal and a handshake - a deal I will never make again.

This is a little late.We went down for the outer banks motorcycle rally, there was 6 of us.The home had plenty of space, fixed up very nice, for the most part just like what the listing says. Only problem we had was upstairs air unit kept freezing up,I called Jay came the next to check on it, not that big of a deal since it was a little cool but upstairs did get a little warm in morning and day,but open a window breeze was nice. This home was great for us, affordable, close to everything, but also secluded some.Hoping to go back before summer is out and stay again.Jay the owner is very pleasent to deal with and helpful with the area.

We enjoyed our stay at this home. It was very convenient to all the local attractions as well as shopping at the outlets, malls and grocery stores. The home was very close to the beach which made the photographers in our group very happy for those sun rise shots. The home offers a lot of privacy for the money and the six of us were very comfortable during our stay. The three levels of the home afforded privacy for the members of our party that needed some quite time daily. The owners were very responsive to our questions as well as making suggestions for local restaurants.

This home is incredibly beautiful. It was amazing to be able to wake in the morning and see 4 bucks in the back yard !! The view of the woods and wild life was amazing. The home was very clean and cozy. My family loves OBX but we prefer to be on the sound side where it is very quiet and away from the busier beach side. This home allowed us to have that. The owners were very nice and answer all our questions. Thanks for opening your home to my family. We truly enjoyed our stay !!!

Despite the mostly uncoopertive weather in late March, we enjoyed our 5 day vacation. The woods were particularly nice to wander around in with our Golden Retrievers and the hot tub was a definite plus for our teenage kids during the downpours. The owners were quite friendly and cordial in answering questions prior to our arrival, and in offering suggestions for local activities and cuisine once we arrived. An overall good time.

We really enjoyed this house and the unique location. You get the best of both worlds as it is not too far from the beach and also near the woods and many good walking trails with beautiful scenery. It is private and quiet. There is a park not too far away for kids to play. The house was clean and well kept. We definitely would stay again!

About the owner: We moved to the Outer Banks about 30 years ago and were blessed to be able to live and raise our family in such a natural, active environment. Now that we've retired we enjoy traveling, but hope to maintain our lovely family home. Since we're not here very much, we'd love to have others enjoy this unique area.

The Unique Benefits at this House:
We do love the ocean, but also enjoy the feel of living in the woods. It's also a little away from the rush of traffic and busy tourist areas, but only 1/2 mile away.
