Owner Description

Year Purchased: 2004

We moved to the Outer Banks about 30 years ago and were blessed to be able to live and raise our family in such a natural, active environment. Now that we've retired we enjoy traveling, but hope to maintain our lovely family home. Since we're not here very much, we'd love to have others enjoy this unique area.

The Unique Benefits of this House

We do love the ocean, but also enjoy the feel of living in the woods. It's also a little away from the rush of traffic and busy tourist areas, but only 1/2 mile away.

Kill Devil Hills Home

Date of Stay: 10/30/10 Review Submitted: 11/08/11

We enjoyed our stay at this home. It was very convenient to all the local attractions as well as shopping at the outlets, malls and grocery stores. The home was very close to the beach which made the photographers in our group very happy for those sun rise shots. The home offers a lot of privacy for the money and the six of us were very comfortable during our stay. The three levels of the home afforded privacy for the members of our party that needed some quite time daily. The owners were very responsive to our questions as well as making suggestions for local restaurants.

Beautiful home !!

This home is incredibly beautiful. It was amazing to be able to wake in the morning and see 4 bucks in the back yard !! The view of the woods and wild life was amazing. The home was very clean and cozy. My family loves OBX but we prefer to be on the sound side where it is very quiet and away from the busier beach side. This home allowed us to have that. The owners were very nice and answer all our questions. Thanks for opening your home to my family. We truly enjoyed our stay !!!

Getaway

Guest: Laurie (Chapel Hill, NC)
Date of Stay: 03/26/11 Review Submitted: 04/14/11

Despite the mostly uncoopertive weather in late March, we enjoyed our 5 day vacation. The woods were particularly nice to wander around in with our Golden Retrievers and the hot tub was a definite plus for our teenage kids during the downpours. The owners were quite friendly and cordial in answering questions prior to our arrival, and in offering suggestions for local activities and cuisine once we arrived. An overall good time.

Great House/Unique Location

Guest: April (Raleigh, NC)
Date of Stay: 04/07/11 Review Submitted: 04/10/11

We really enjoyed this house and the unique location. You get the best of both worlds as it is not too far from the beach and also near the woods and many good walking trails with beautiful scenery. It is private and quiet. There is a park not too far away for kids to play. The house was clean and well kept. We definitely would stay again!

Great house

I really liked this house - it is fairly new and nicely maintained. It backs up to the woods and therefore is nice and private in the back. Our favorite places to hang out were the screened deck on the 1st level and the back patio with the fire pit. This area was good for nightly gatherings and we also enjoyed the hot tub and outside shower (a must!). Although very close to the beach, it felt a bit like a mountain cabin and is unique for the area. Also enjoyed going up to the cupulo and other special touches by the owners with the bird houses and little bridge. We would definitely recommend as it is a good deal for the money and are going to book it up for our next vacation to house some guests for our destination wedding!

Great for us!

I stayed at this house last summer and had a wonderful experience. I have used VRBO for years. As the owner had told me it is very quiet back in the woods, but still pretty close to the beach and the main busy areas. I went to the site to book a week for this summer and was astounded by the review I read. As we all know, happy people don't write, only the complainers, but I called the owner to ask him about it. He told me he was annoyed also and investigated and found out that those renters had tried to slide a shower door that was supposed to pull out and consequently broke it and so every shower it leaked onto the floor. They also got into the fuse box and messed up the wiring. If they had called, a maintenance man would have made everything right for them. On my previous stay, the owner was very happy to talk to me. I have booked for this summer and am looking forward to staying there again.

Not worth the money

Guest: BJ (Chesapeake, VA )
Date of Stay: 08/28/10 Review Submitted: 09/09/10

The first 24 hours the circuit breakers kept tripping, and several things of coarse were not working. The hot tub never did heat up properly. Three inch bugs that my husband had to physically cut in half to kill. Probably came up threw the holes in the dining room floor. The furniture in the screened porch looked like garbage someone dragged off the street. The master bed was so horrible with the huge hole in the middle that I had to sleep on the couch. The master shower door are falling off. Could not close and flooded the bathroom everytime you took a shower. Forget the easy 20 min. walk to the sound. Only maybe a fast run. Take water we did not since 20 mins.isn't that far. My daughter almost passed out. Of coarse no credit or refund was ever offered. What a shame. Could be a nice house.

Owner response:We had opted out of reviews because of this one bad review, but now feel we have to respond to this unfair criticism. We received many compliments in thank you notes last summer from others who greatly enjoyed the house, but you can't please everyone. These renters broke the shower door because they thought it was a slider, but was in fact an open out door. We have someone to work on the hot tub when necessary, but these folks tried to deal with it themselves and ended up messing up the circuit breaker which then took longer to fix. There was no hole in the master bed, but we did get new mattresses this year. The outdoor porch is just that - gets alot of weather, but we like it. We have taken the 20 min. walk, but there are many lovely walks through the woods. Since we were never asked, we never offered a refund. We have always listed our phone number if anyone has any complaints or questions to call us at anytime since we live in the area and really want folks to enjoy their stay.
