A week's stay for two families (5 adults, 2 kids) was such a delight at Casa Sophia. This is our third annual trip to the Mayan Riviera staying at different villas each year, and this was the tops so far. Highlights: Hands down, the beach here is the best we've experienced anywhere (possibly excepting Baby Beach in Aruba) in years of travels. White sand 100 yards out into the water, and if 2 people walked by all day, that was a crowded day! Private paradise! Other highlights included unusually comfortable beds for the region. The kitchen was well equipped, and everything matched the photos well. The private pool was also great; my 3 year old son spent many hours splashing in the shallow end! Room arrangement is: master bedroom secluded at one end of the house with a huge tub in its private bath. Very private. The other end of the main floor has two connected rooms (one queen and two twins) with a shared bathroom, walking through one bedroom to get to the other or using the breezeway doors for private access. Upstairs, a king bedroom with a shared (but effectively private) bath with access to a private balcony. Having Cesiak adjoining the property provided an easy option for meals and activities and we enjoyed excellent service from all the staff there. Finally, the nearby hotel zone provides a wealth of activities and subdued nightlife. We enjoyed a flamenco concert and a number of excellent meals during our stay. Cautions: The road in Sian Ka'an is *really* rough. Don't underestimate the effect this may have on your desire to venture out. My pregnant wife opted to walk the 4 km to the pavement a number of times to avoid the trip in the car! If you're in good health and don't mind some jarring though, it's a minor inconvenience. AND, it keeps out the riff-raff! We had a chef come in from Cesiak a couple nights and were underwhelmed by the experience; we'd probably either skip this next time or shop around a bit. This surprised us as the food *at* Cesiak was top notch. As Casa Sophia is part of the eco-park, be aware that the septic system doesn't allow you to flush the toilet paper. There is a bidet though and this didn't end up being a big deal after the first day or so. Following our stay, we spent two nights in Cancun at the Hilton, and although it was nice, I longed for the privacy and comfort of the villa every moment! Bottom line, two thumbs up. Don't hesitate on this one!Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, families with young children, families with teenagers.
