A peaceful retreat home with vaulted ceilings and skylights, overlooking its own 20-acre meadow, valley and ocean view. No visible neighbors but the deer, a seasonal pond, mature redwoods, oaks, sycamore and other native trees. Private walking trail, ancient redwood-lined stream, large octagonal deck with centerpiece fire pit and natural seating.
The master bedroom spans the entire upper level, with a redwood-mantel fireplace and an out-of-sight, spacious, ocean view deck. It's large walk-in shower takes in the ocean and giant redwood views. Below is a private-entranced studio and deck, with queen-size bed, full bathroom, glass shower and same gorgeous views. The main level's entertainment room easily converts to a very comfortable additional bedroom with a queen-size pull-out sofa bed and adjoining bathroom with large spa-tub. Two queen air mattresses, futons and linens are also available for additional sleeping for the kids.
Wi-fi, big-screen satellite tv and dvd, stereo w/ipod plug, full kitchen, and a wood-burning stove fireplace with plenty of firewood.
From Hwy 1, you’ll enter through an electric gate and bridge over the Big Sur River, next to the famous Big Sur River Inn. You rise up from the river and the classic Big Sur Valley to the mountain ridgeline at 1,200 hundred feet with a view of the world, then descend toward the Pacific Ocean to a private valley. Clear Ridge Road also continues to a second gated entrance, opening to world-renowned Pfeiffer Beach. There is also great hiking in Andrew Molera State Park next door to Clear Ridge, with its wild, isolated beaches and mystical redwood and oak forests. The only way to start this review is WOW!!! NO I REALLY MEAN WOW!!! Pictures do not do it justice! This past weekend we had a small family gathering at the Clear Ridge Redwood Retreat. On the way up to the house we could not believe its location. If you are looking to get away from it all this is definitely the place. The property is breath taking, from its views to the redwood deck with a fire pit down by the river. We really had a memorable visit that we will be talking about for years to come. I would definitely recommend this place for your next family vacation.
Recommended for:Romantic getaway, adventure seekers, families with teenagers.
No heat, a weak "view" of the ocean, a dangerous driveway AND Highway1 was closed

My wife and I are in the house now, freezing. Better to use this house in August, if at all. Two fireplaces are not up to the task of heating the whole house. Teeth chatteringly cold here. What a mistake. Highway1 was closed, making the journey from the airport take over four hours! Beware and check highway closures before coming. The owner waited till we paid up to tell us. I feel like a fool. At the end of the drive came the driveway to the house. It's over 1 mile-and-a-half with room for no one to pass. We honked and prayed the whole way. Finally the "view" of the ocean is not what I had hoped or the description might lead you to believe. You are behind two mountains and can just see a bit of the ocean between them. Other than that, it's ok....
