I feel like I'm qualified to respond to Kevin in Georgia's posting as I've stayed in this condo multiple times over the last four years. First, the power goes out occasionally on the entire island. Not something that can be blamed on this particular condo. You're in the Caribbean, on an island. These things happen. I live in a suburb outside of Chicago and the power goes out occasionally here too. People who live on St. Croix take the sporadic power outages in stride. Regarding the air conditioner, in all of my stays on St.Croix, I have NEVER used the air conditioner because the trade winds that constantly blow in obviate the need for an air conditioner. There had been 85 degree days when the trade winds were such that I felt cold. In the day time. I've been to Georgia with the Army and St. Croix is a paradise compared to the humidity that exists there. Finally, the television. I've had no experience with the television because I've never turned it on. I can watch the television here at home during the Chicago winters but when I go to a tropical island, I like to sit on the balcony facing the sea and watch the stars while drinking Cruzan rum. I take a vacation FROM television (and newspapers and the world at large.) I would to suggest to Kevin from Georgia (with all due respect) that he might not be suited to life on St. Croix and that he might next time visit St. Thomas with its hermetically sealed resorts. I'm sure the televisions and air conditioners work just fine there. At the risk of sounding pedantic, one cannot bring one's home culture to a land with a different culture and expect yours to prevail. I have no relationship with the owners of this condo other than being very grateful for the opportunity to rent from them. They have been most kind.

There is an antique potable ac unit that cannot compete with the leaks in the windows. The TV doesn't work and in a well written guide that you will read the suggestion is "wiggle the coax cord". The power goes on and off. You won't discover that either until you read the warning in the guide. The owners pass it off as a normal occurrence in the Caribbean. Please do yourself a favor and take a pass on this rip-off.
Owner response:We would have loved to have made "Don't Believe What You Read's" St. Croix experience more pleasant, as we have an extremely reliable on site manager to handle most problems or emergencies. But even he can not control a 2 hr. power outage affecting the whole section of the island. (The power went off on 10/15 from @ 4AM - 6AM). Our guest did not contact us nor the manager that there were any condition issues in the condo. We can not repair or replace anything if we do not find the problem in our prerental inspection or if a guest does not let us know if one developes or exists. We provide our guide for guests to know what to do & who to contact in an emergency o other contingency. To address specific concerns; the TV is less than 1 yr. old, but if it did not work, it would have been replaced (manager reports it works fine.). The "antique" AC unit is less than 7 yrs old, which, I guess could be considered old by some standards. If it doesn't work, it too shall be replaced. Frequent replacement of electronics is part of the sacrifice we gladly make for the comfort of our guests and the priviledge to live 20 feet from the Caribbean Ocean. We will try to address emergency communication proceedures better in the future.

You awaken every morning to the sound of the surf; the sea is footsteps away. The weather today will be the same as yesterday - beautiful, warm, trade winds caressing you. Fifty feet down the road, past Ed the horse, is Elizabeth's H20, an open air restaurant bar where the staff is friendly and definitely on island time. Should you prefer something different, the Palms is a short walk away. You will make friends here that you will remember year after year and they will remember you as well. If it's possible to tire of basking in the sun, Christiansted is a short drive and it holds secret treasures for shopping, dining, hanging out. You have a television but you'll never use it. And you won't miss it. You feel safe here. And once you've experienced Seaside in St. Croix, you know you're coming back again and again. This is home.
