Owner's Profile

Owner Description

Year Purchased: 1987

We purchased a lot in 1985 and built our chalet in 1987. Our children were 8, 6 and 4 at the time. Since I am a teacher, we spent many summers in the Hideout. My children took advantage of many of the Hideout amentities - their first ski lessons, tots and kids' camps, etc. Now my children bring my grandchildren to our vacation chalet- They have such fond memories that they went their children to share in - like walking the old horse trail to observe turkeys and deer. We recently completely redid the lower level. We have done updates - new carpeting, flooring, and furniture on the main level.

Why the Owner Chose Lake Ariel

We love the beautiful scenery in the Pocono Mountains. We were very impressed with the amentities which are continually upgraded. See the live link above which will take you to the Hideout web page.

Great Place to Stay

Guest: Janis (South Jersey)
Date of Stay: 08/13/11 Review Submitted: 08/23/11

We had 3 adults and 2 teens and were very comfortable. The house was immaculate; the teens especially loved having their own "pad" on the lower level with it's own flat screen TV, living room, bedroom and bathroom. We enjoyed feeding the deer families that stopped by to visit and had a wonderful fire in the fireplace one night - yes IN AUGUST. We would definitely recommend this home to everyone - the owners are great, it was easy to pick the keys up right down the road, and there is plenty to do both in the Hideout and in the area as well. We enjoyed the farm market down the road, Claws and Paws, the pool and just relaxing at the house on the deck and in the living room.

Well worth it!

We had a wonderful time at the Chalet. The house was very clean, comfortable and nicely situated. All the necessities are there to eat in, which we did but we also ate out at the Liberty Restaurant and Kay's in Lake Ariel and both were great, especially the Liberty! We saw deer every day all along the Hideout and actually right on the property of the Chalet. There were almost close enough to pet. The photos don't do the house justice as we were so relaxed and comfortable, especially at night as it cooled down into the lower 50's, cool enough to light the fireplace which just added to the mood. The Hideout staff was pleasant, the rules were no problem and as for the recycling, we just kept cans, bottles, plastic and newspapers in separate plastic bags to ease and shorten the time spent at the recycling center. There is a lot to do at the Hideout and there are a few lovely towns within a 30 minute drive such as Honesdale and Hawley if you want to see the area. Over all we highly recommend the Chalet and wish to thank the owners, Linda and George as well as John at Chant Realtors for the opportunity to spend our vacation there.

Great Family Vacation Spot

Guest: BDT42 (Providence, RI)
Date of Stay: 08/01/10 Review Submitted: 08/14/10

Our family (2 adults, 3 teens, 2 dogs) spent the week of 8/1/10 here and had a fine time. The house was very clean and comfortable. The layout was perfect for us, allowing the boys to stay in the finished basement and their sister on the second floor, with us in the middle. There is such as thing as too much togetherness on a family vacation -- having a little separation available is a good thing. We had a wonderful experience with the owners and the realtor who handles the rentals. Quick, friendly, and accommodating all around. The Hideout amenities met everyone's interests. Note that while the kids can walk to the North Pool from this home, the lake adjacent to it is not available to Hideout guests. Roamingwood Lake is on the South side of the grounds, a quick drive but a long walk. The Hideout staff was polite, but be aware that there are a lot of rules here. Nothing unreasonable, but it feels more restrictive than a hotel or renting a private home. The pools are lovely, as is the lake. We also enjoyed the North Sports Complex health club. Renters should remember to bring dish-washing soap, sponges, dishtowels, etc. Another helpful tip: bring baby wipes when you drop off your trash and recycling. You have to separate bottles, cans, etc., yourself. While the Hideout pays to staff the Recycle Station (three guys whose job appears to be only to monitor your sorting technique), it has not seen clear to provide any means to wash your sticky hands afterward. Yuck. Finally, a tip for anyone with kids who want to catch a fish: Across the road from the Marina is the cement runoff channel from the dam. Go behind the chainlink fences early in the morning and your kids will land a lot of smaller fish. Just throw them back when you are done. (The fish, not the kids.)

Wonderful Vacation Rental

Guest: Hideout Lover (Little Falls, NJ)
Date of Stay: 07/22/09 Review Submitted: 07/06/10

We found this house to be immaculately clean and very comfortable. This house has everything you could need. The kitchen was well stocked, the rooms were nice and airy and the house itself was absolutely lovely. The pictures did not do it justice. We enjoyed sitting on the large deck and just enjoying the peaceful surroundings. It's located very close to all amenities but very quiet and private. The owner was very nice and helpful. We absolutely hated to leave. We are hoping to rent this house again for a longer period soon. I would recommend this rental to all my friends and family.
