Shangri-La is a great camp that is extremely versatile in the opportunities it affords vacationers

The Adirondacks are a national treasure. In the late 1800`s the cognoscenti of the wealthy built great camps to escape to nature at it`s finest. They wanted access to all the opportunities outlined in the description of Shangri-La that fit the period. On a mini scale you can live and relive those same experiences. You drop-out and enjoy camp life as described or you can be as active as your body will allow, running, biking, hiking, mountain or rock climbing, water sports, trout fishing, golf etc, etc. Nearby Lake Placid hosted two Winter Olympics, hence, the village is rich in history, resturants, shops and quaintness. This camp fits the interest and needs of families and persons of awide age spectrum. I know just how special Shangri-La could be for you.

A Relaxing Getaway

Guest: Debbie/Scott (Swanville, Maine)
Date of Stay: 07/01/11 Review Submitted: 08/02/11

What a tranquil place (excluding, of course, the spectacular 4th of July fireworks at Lake Placid). We had nightly serenades by choruses of mink and green frogs, with an occasional percussive note accented by a bull frog. One morning we awoke to see a deer standing sentinel across the pond. Banded purple butterflies were everywhere. A luminous pale green and other-worldly luna moth graced us with its presence, an event that is becoming rarer in other places due to encroaching light pollution. And the spectacular enormity of the Milky Way, another sight that requires the quiet darkness. Although we love to hike and canoe, we were very content to remain at Shangri-la, relaxing on the spacious lawn, swimming in the refreshing pond, winding down. Next time we'll consider exploring the area more, but this time we enjoyed the rustic comfort of home.

Great spot for families & kids

We had an incredible time, and couldn’t have picked a better place. We were a pretty large party – 6 adults and 7 kids -- and Shangri-la was the perfect size for us. We found lots to do on-site and in the surrounding area – hiking up local mountains, biking on roads and trails, paddling nearby lakes. The kids had a blast fishing in the pond and catching frogs, and the island was a big hit. We had some stunning night skies, great campfires, and beautiful mornings on the porch. We’ll be back.

Peaceful, Relaxing, Beautiful Vacation Spot

Guest: Alex (Washington, DC)

Just wrapped up a week vacation here and we could not have asked for a more peaceful and relaxing vacation spot. Would definitely recommend for someone who wants to get away. Great for solo trips, couple trips, or group/family trips. The lake and private island is awesome, and lots in the surrounding land and property to explore. Great soft grassy lawns surround the cabins. Also picnic areas, fire pit, boats, piers out into the private lake (including on the private island). And the weather is gorgeous, especially for those of us wanting to escape the heat of farther south.

My Labor Day weekend drive from Boston was amazingly fast and easy. Shangri-La was so peaceful and refreshing with no sounds except the sounds of nature and of us having fun. Loved It!

Thank you so much Bob. Your little "lost city" in the Adirondacks is perfection. The celebration was a much needed distraction for all of us, and your home provided us with a truly beautiful apot for it. Best of luck -

A wonderful vacation at Shangri-La in the Adirondacks! This place is special - an Eden where peace and serenity abound - but close to the excitement of the 4th of July parade & fireworks at Lake Placid. Thank you for these wonderful memories!

What a great vacation! From the day we arrived we had beautiful weather. We thoroughly enjoyed the property - from the pond to the fire pit to the cabins. We went swimming, boating, fishing, biking, hiking, running and more. We enjoyed great meals and family games. We spent a day in Lake Placid - beautiful! What history! We hope to be back again soon!

Thank you for this opportunity to share the Adirondacks with my family. You helped me fulfill a promise to my kids to make up the time lost after two years of deployment to Iraq and Afghanistan. The kids description of "awesome" and "the best vacation we ever had" are words enough. The great times at Shangri-la will be remembered a lifetime.

We had a great 5 days - lots of food, games and snow. Brothers, sisters, parents & in-laws got to know each other even better! On Sat 12-29-01 we watched the passing of the Olympic torch in Lake Placid for the 2002 winter games in SLC, Utah! Lake Placid has great shopping. Johnny (5 years) took his first ski lesson at Titus Mt and loved it. We finished the trip off with a New Years Celebration....more food, games & fun. We left renewed in spirit and ready to start the next year.

What a wonderful week! We are about to move our family to GA; the thing we will miss the most about N.Y. is the time we got to spend at Shangri-La. I keep telling my kids it's just going to be a longer drive. It's been such a great time, camp fires, picking wild flowers, boating, fishing, long walks, catching up on some reading, great converstions, and undistracted time with family! It's impossible to leave without an ache in your heat to come back soon.

We can't thank you enough! Shangri-La is a little piece of heaven. We felt instantly at home and at peace relaxing, fishing, reading, attempting puzzles, walking in the rain. But most of all the beauty of it all is unforgettable. We hope we can come back soon!

We all enjoyed a lovely week at Shangri-La. Festivities included lots of successful fishing (I caught 45 the first day!) swimming, canoeing & kayaking in the refreshing pond, boating on upper Saranac, a trip to Montreal one day, several jogs & hikes in near by forest (including a lovely visit to Debar Pond - nice hike) we had a great time.
