The property was even better than the pictures. Great view of ocean from deck, quiet, nice breeze at night, and centrally located to all the things we wanted to do. Very clean, well stocked, and perfect for us! I would stay there again in a heartbeat.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

I could NOT be happier about our stay at this condo. We used to live on Maui, and only wish I could have been able to live in such a nice place. I don't think the pictures did justice to how nice the space is inside the condo - finished with nice materials and modern touches. The view from the lanai speaks for itself. Super clean, beach-going supplies to borrow. Left absolutely nothing lacking. Central location on the island for easily reaching all the best beaches and other attractions. But you could also stay there and never leave the condo and enjoy your stay! There is very consistent wind, which I love, but if that bothers you you might not enjoy it as much as we did. The bus on the island stops in Maalaea which would allow for easily accessing the rest of the island without a car.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

We arrived Tuesday night in the dark so didn't really grasp the beauty until we awoke. We could hear the dulcet crashing of the waves nearby but the fact is, when we awoke, those waves were a mere 20 yards away across the grass yard. The owners have made a table from a surf board on their lanai (patio, deck) and sitting there sipping coffee in the morning or beer in the afternoon was just the most amazing experience – especially this time of year. I kid you not, the whales were jumping and splashing so much….it was incredible. There is a pool but why waste time in there with the beach right there in front of you. They always say about Hawaiian beaches – swim only where the locals swim and yes, there were lots of locals on our beach. Condo is excellent inside with all the amenities you need from a fully fitted kitchen to flat screen TV etc. (who watches TV in Maui?) So what would make this perfect? – I dunno, free beer maybe !Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Oh my lord! This place was more than what was expected by my girlfriend and I. We stayed for what we thought would be a long 9 days. It felt more like 5 days, but I can't wait to go back next year. Alot of the reviews detail about the whales, which was absolutely phenomenal. I snapped two pictures that were amazing. I got one of a baby whale breaching the water, and one of the baby coming down with a giant splash. I almost captured when the mom, or what I would assume was the mom, jumping out of the water. I never realized how large these creatures are until that point. The other reviews also detail how this place is 55+ friendly. I am disheartened that nobody said it is for 55 below as well. We are a young couple, and this place was so romantic with the 5 mile long secluded beach, and the quite turtles breaching their heads every morning right outside the front of the condo that I would suggest this for all ages. There are 3 or 4 nice restaurants in walking distance of the hotel, and a beautiful beachside bar called Beach Bums Bar & Grill, though with how secluded the actual condo is you would never guess that a few minutes away are a few beautiful restaurants. As for the condo itself, my god how beautiful. It looks as if they just re-furnished, and re-modeled the entire condo, because everything was brand new. The appliances looked like they had never been used, and the TV is brand new. There is an awesome surfboard table out on the lanai that looks like it was just boughten, and it is the perfect addition to the condo. Every morning my girlfriend and I enjoyed breakfast, and coffee out there while watching the whales and turtles pass by. The master bedroom is so close to the water that you wake up listening to crashing waves, and every morning I opened the curtains reminded me of how gorgeous this place is. All in all for what we payed it was ten times my expectations, and I will never stay somewhere else, so keep January 11th-20th just for me please!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

This condo in Maalaea Bay was an exceptional place for 3 adults to stay. John & Laury have everything setup so well. When we arrived, we found a binder with all the info that we needed available in it. Lovely decor, superb kitchen, and all the necesseties and more were provided to make a person feel at home. The central location made it an easy drive to anywhere on the island. Because of the continuous tradewinds and the cross ventilation, we didn't need to use the A/C at all. We enjoyed staying only steps away from the beach, with the sound of the rolling waves; a gorgeous view of the sun cresting over Haleakala each morning as the turtles fed just offshore; miles and miles of sandy beach; and superb restaurants and shopping just a short drive away. Many people gathered daily in the BBQ area just below our lanai to visit and smoke but were very considerate and usually left by 10pm. We enjoyed the drive around the west coast of Maui but the narrow, one lane stretches of road were very unnerving, enjoyed Ioa Valley State Park, Maui Tropical Plantation, Banyan Tree Park with the local artist show and silent acution, and the venture up to Haleakala National Park was breathtaking and very spiritually moving. The wine tasting at Ulupalakua Ranch/Winery convinced us to purchase the most delicious pineapple wine ever.... The Reefdancer (glass bottom boat) was a treat as we saw many fish on the reef and several creatures brought to us by the divers. The Old Lahaina luau was great as we were first welcomed with a fresh orchid lei and a Mai Tai before even being seated. Terrific show presenting the history of the islands, tasty buffet and a most impressive dessert tray was served to the table. Overall, it was a BEAUTIFUL condo in a BEAUTIFUL location and made this a "dream of a lifetime" holiday for us!Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this rental property. The property is clean and well maintained, fully stocked, and the photos in the listing are an exact representation of the rental's appearance and amenities. The property is a little off the beaten track so we would recommend a rental car, although there are restaurants, shops, and activities available at the near by Maalaea Harbour. We never had any issue in finding an available parking stall. The local residents at the property were super friendly and we enjoyed their company and hospitality. We most enjoyed watching the sunrise over Haleakala and the sound of the waves, while sitting on the Lanai with our morning coffee. We would definitely recommend this property to friends or relatives who are looking for a quiet retreat. Thank you John and Laury for sharing your little piece of paradise.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Just returned home from a wonderful stay at this beachfront condo. Booking process was very easy, the owner was very helpful and quick to respond to emails. Upon arrival, we found a booklet full of information on the condo and the nearby area. This condo is exactly as pictured in the photos. Condo was very clean, well maintained and quiet. After spending several days in Honolulu we were looking forward to having some quiet time, the only noise here are the waves coming on shore. The condo is in a central location for travel to different areas of the island. We were able to make quick trips to Kihei, Lahaina and Kaanapali. We did make the trip to Hana, this was not a quick trip. There was a "Road to Hana" cd in the DVD basket, which was very helpful. This was a beautiful drive but very long. We decided to to travel the complete circle, driving on the "unpaved" road, this was a mistake in my opinion. I would suggest turning around after the 7 sacred pools, it will take just as long as going around but the rode is much smoother. The condo is full of amenities, may need a few more towels. The only thing we had to purchase was bath soap...no big deal. There are plenty of beach items, such as chairs, snorkel gear, boogie boards. The water was not real clear during our stay, but we were able to walk down the beach and find an area of clear water to go snorkeling. The views from this condo are great. You can lay in the master bed and watch the sunrise!! We were able to see several Sea Turtles each morning. We did visit the Maui Ocean Center which is just up the road from the condo. Nice aquarium, but a little overpriced for what you get to see, not many displays. Our snorkeling trip from the nearby harbor was great, went with the afternoon trip on Four Winds II, great price and great crew. Other eateries that we tried, Cool Cats (very good burgers), Porto's- near Maui Ocean Center (very good pizza), Cinnamon Roll Fair - Kihei (the best), Milagro's - Paia (very good), Denny's (OK). We did not get a chance to use the pool, but noticed it was very well kept. The only problem was seeing a lady in a swimsuit that she should not have been wearing. This was overall a great vacation property!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, sightseeing.

The condo's owner was very nice. She called to ensure everything is o.k. at the condo on our arrival date. The condo is very well kept, modern, and clean. It is located in a great location on a long Sugar beach. We really enjoyed our walk on the beach; however, our dream of 2 peaceful weeks vacation turned into a nightmare due to those inconsiderate budget renters. Our unit is beach front and on the 2nd floor located above designated BBQ, smoking and sun bathing areas where people will gather. The condo noise rule has been developed but NOT implemented as during our stay for a week and a half, we had to due with those budget travelers who hung out below our unit; smoked, drank, made very loud noise against constant wave crashing sound until late at night sometimes after 11pm. Although we had told them that they were making too much noise that was disturbing us, they were not care. The group tend to know the condo management very well; therefore, the management did not do anything with it. The light at the BBQ area was left on after 11pm every night, which allowed people to stay below our unit very late. Blinds installed in the unit could not provide 100% privacy as you can see through them when we had our lights on at night. However they are awesome during day time as they server as shade and we can see the gorgeous view through it. You can also smell cigarette smoke & BBQ odor drifted into the unit even when all windows and sidings were closed. The front bedroom windows and some sidings below the windows were designed to have air flow through, although they are closed resulting in NO noise insulation and odor prevention to the unit. If your bedtime is earlier than 10pm, you are not a smoker and you are looking for privacy and peaceful vacation at the Hono Kai Condo, this unit may not suit your style as you will never know when you are going to run into those inconsiderate people who may ruin your expensive beach front vacation. Per our condo booklet, it is weird that the condo manager is only responsible for keeping order, parking, pool, bbq, maintenance of ground and exterior building. Management should step up and enforce their noise policy to all residents and renters including their friends or house keeper friends.Recommended for: Families with teenagers

As a long time user of VRBO to find vacation properties, I would rate this as one of the best values that we have rented in recent years. It met and exceeded our expectaions in every way. The unit is located directly on the beach on the second level in a small (never saw more than 10 other guests) quiet complex on Maalea Bay (the south ishthmus area). This central location was ideal for driving south to Wailea & Makena, northwest to Lahaina, Kaanapali, & Kapalua, and even north to the "city" (Costco!) or beyond to Paia and Hana. The complex abuts a low traffic beach that runs for miles south to Kihei. There is even a freshwater shower and footwash at the top of the steps to the beach. Parking was close to the unit and was never a problem. The unit has been renovated fairlly recently in a fresh and contemporary fashion (lots of Ikea pieces) with a well equipped kitchen, lots of overhead fans, a variety of lighting options and even an air conditioner (although the constant winds and flow-through ventilation configuraton never required it). The large upper level loft is set up with an open bedroom area, a separate bathroom with shower and an adjacent office room with desking and a sleeper sofa. The entry floor has a separate bedroom that opens onto the double-height living room area through the use of sliding louvered doors. The kitchen and a bathroom with shower is also located on this level. A double-height wall of glass overlooks the beach with sliding doors opening onto your private lanai. We spent a lot of time just hanging out on the lania, enjoying the view and endless procession of surf crashing 25 feet away. Jalousy style louvered windows provided for lots of ventilation options. Mechoshades allowed for sun control on all beach facing windows. There is a grassed yard running along the beach with a small fenced freshwater pool, plenty of lounge chairs and tables. There is a beachfront barbeque patio with two new gas barbeque grilles and attractive evening tube lighting strings. The grounds are well maintained daily. The owner has recently added WiFi and we also had strong Verizon 3G service. This has to be one of the best beachfront condo values on Maui.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We enjoyed our stay in Maui. The condo was perfect and was exactly as pictured and described. It was very clean and well kept. I recently vacationed at this property with my boyfriend, his mom, and his sister. The condo was very clean stocked with plenty of amenities (coffee filters! beach toys! extra sheets & towels!) and we really appreciated the updated modern kitchen and bathrooms. The condo really couldn't be any closer to the beach (amazing!) and the view from the lanai was to die for. While the loft style sleeping areas and slotted doors on the bedroom/bathrooms didn't allow for very much privacy, it wasn't an issue for us because we spent most of the time outdoors enjoying the beautiful Maui sunshine. During a morning stroll on our first day in Maui, my boyfriend proposed to me right on the Maalea beach outside the condo. It couldn't have been more romantic and it's an experience we will remember for the rest of our lives. Thanks John & Laury! :)Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We have been coming to Maui for 25 years and could not have asked for a better vacation or a better location than this wonderful oceanfront condo in Maalaea. Easy access to the whole island, best whale watching on the island and beautiful, upgraded decor and furnishings. Our favorite part was access to the adjoining beach where we ran and swam every day. The front office was very helpful, the cocktail parties at sunset by the pool were great fun and we had the best vacation ever on Maui. The condo had everything, from movies to hi-def large screen TV with surround sound, books, lanai dining, walk in tiled showers, barbeques, and shopping, dining and groceries within walking distance. I highly recommend this stunning unit. Our thanks to the very gracious and helpful owners for making this vacation so memorable. I will definitely come back.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Beach Bums Bar-BBQ-Grill & whale watching were within walking distance. The beach was nice too with no crowds. Our kids loved it as well. This a great place to stay - above average -- centrally located for making day trips - or just walk downstairs to the beach. If you want beach front - it doesn't get much closer than this - you definately get the sounds of waves all night. The owners very thougtfully have many things at the condo - beach toys/chairs/etc - along with suggestions and directions to things in the area. Really helps the visitor!! The upgrades / remodel is very tastefully done. End unit location with no one above you - but if there are lots of people at the BBQ, the noise might be a little distracting, however there seems to be a "curfew" and you won't be bothered by late night parties. .... The only thing lacking was internet service - very frustrating to not be able to connect - would think a unit at this level/pricing would have wireless provided. Inconvenient to have to go to the small village to pick up a signal. ... If there was a rating between good and excellent, I would have selected it. Great family unit - or perfect floor plan is great for sharing adults.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We truly had a delgihtful time. The desription of the condo was perfect. Not to often do the pictures accuraltey reflect the appearance, other than it was a tad smaller these really did. It was like home away from home. It was a very relaxing place to end a day of touring the island. Then we spent an entire day of laying on lounge chairs by the pool and playing in the ocean. The pictures I took from our room looked just like a postcard, Beautiful!! I would recommend this property to my best of friends. It made for a perfect vacation in paradise. This condo was amazing! We loved our stay there. It was even better than what we were expecting, even with the beautiful pictures and descriptions. It was very spacious and clean. Everyone there was very helpful and friendly. We really liked the fact that we were only 5 to 15 minutes away from every tourist town near by, AND only 10 minutes away from the airport! There were so many things to do, and wonderful places to eat. Beach Bums Bar-BBQ-Grill & Mama's Fish House were awesome. UFO parasailing was a great experience. The Trilogy Molikini snorkeling excursion was amazing. And we would highly recommend the Old Lahaina Luau. At the end of the day don't forget to relax on the Sandy beach just a few feet away. To sum up in one sentence, "We never wanted to leave." Like Hawaii, the pictures are NOT indicative of what you get because they just can't do the place justice... I wasn't expecting much after my research on Hawaiian condos. They seemed to go from old and worn out to better than average, with a few diamonds in the rough. This was one of those diamonds. It has a very fresh look, and the loft layout gives more than enough space for four adults (still another double bed to go!) It is VERY well-equipped with little extras we weren't expecting, like ocean toys, coolers and such. The complex is cozy, but still relatively spacious and has a very friendly staff. But we rarely saw another soul unless we went looking for them! The Barbeques were excellent, although we only used them twice, as were the kitchen appliances. Resist the pull of the restaurants and your vacation could be rather thrifty. Some books and movies were left, but we only used the TV once. I 'accidentally' found open WiFi for my laptop, but YMMV. There is a computer with a fax/printer provided as well. The pool seemed a bit small and overly chlorinated, but who cares when this gorgeous beach is only YARDS away! We swam and snorkelled right off of it, with some local fish to accompany us. I was told octopus lived on the small shoal there as well. The sand stretches for miles if you're inclined to walk. The sound of the waves sang us to sleep every night and woke us up every morning, and the breezes and ceiling fans keep the temperature perfect enough that the A/C MIGHT be needed in the summer, but I'd doubt it. Prices are a little higher on Maui, but you're in Hawaii! Don't sweat it. Lahaina and Kihei are 20 minutes drive East or West, with restaurants and activities. Kahului / Wailuku are not much further North, so you're pretty centrally located. The Maui Aquarium and a mini-golf is up the street. I'd highly recommend: A) BEACHES! Especially in the morning before the wind hits. B) Snorkelling / Diving. Especially Molokini. We went with Maui Dive Shop. C) The Hana Highway to Oheo Gulch. Stop OFTEN. Wear your swimsuit. D) Sunrise at the summit of Haleakala. I wasn't as moved by this, but still worth it. E) Get out of the car and WALK a little. The World gets left behind... F) Day or two trip to Lanai. Rent a jeep. Off-road a little. Hike to a beach. You'll probably be alone. John and Laury were VERY nice to deal with. Unless you're looking for a resort to cater to you, you can't go wrong!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

John & Laury's condo is a gem... strategically located between all the key places on Maui and is a stress free distance the airport! The condominum complex is well taken care of and obviously loved by the friendly people who live there. The condo is a highly prized end unit with an orientation that allows for a pleasant breeze to cool you off after lying in the sun or listening to the surf while drifting off to sleep at night. While there are lots of fine (and fun) dining places and shopping spots on the island a few of the same are located just a short hike from your home away from home. This really helps when you're tired out from all the fun you've had that day and don't want to venture back out too far (there's even a great fast food joint and a convenience store located up the road). And finally the nearby harbor is the launching point for many (if not all) of the wonderful ocean tours offered on the island. The only thing we couldn't get was a pizza delivered to this location but with our Safeway supermarket value card (highly recommended for savings) we could make our own in John & Laury's awesome kitchen topped off with a lovely walk along the beautiful shoreline after dinner! Aloha until next time.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 8/8

The condo was exactly as described and even better. We stayed here in March 2010 and had an amazing time. Not only was the condo the best one on the property due to owner renovations, but it was directly on the ocean. You can't get away from the sound of the ocean crashing if you tried. During the time we were there we could watch whales from the lanai. It is a great location, between Kehei and Lahaina, close to everything but far enough away to relax. Two great restaurants on the same street and very close to the harbor for snorkeling and whale watching trips.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 4/4

Jacquie and I spent Xmas and New Years at this beautiful condo and would highly recommend staying here. The condo is beautifully decorated inside and the view from the lanai is breath taking. Being right on the beach was extra special for walks in the morning and at night time and for watching the sunrise and sunsets. We really enjoyed ourselves. Thank you for letting us rent your beautiful condo.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 3/3

We absolutely loved the Condo. It was very clean and updated throughout. The location was great, we could get to all parts of the island pretty quickly. We loved looking out to the Ocean and fell asleep listening to the waves at night. We have 2 kids and they loved playing at the beach right outside the condo. John and Laury were great to work with and we really appreciate being able to have access to your wonderful condo. We want to come back again next November but are planning 2 weeks next time.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

Lovely condo. And you are right on the beach. Comfortable beds, great kitchen, excellent overall facility. Clean, neat, plenty of towels. We like being in the middle of the Island as it's an easy drive no matter which direction you go. If you have young children, the wave action at Maalea is quite strong right at the waterline compared to other beaches, so just be aware of the undertow when getting in and out of the water. Thank you Laury and Jim for making this available. I'd recommend this unit to anyone.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2
