Location: La Manzanilla, Jalisco, Mexican Riviera, Mexico (40 min north of Manzanillo; 3.5 hrs south of Puerto Vallarta) View Map
Accommodations: House, 3 Bedrooms + Sleeping Porch, 2.5 Baths (Sleeps 6)
This is a private beachfront home in the Pueblo of La Manzanilla Mexico. The house is a two story stucco residence that is surrounded by a new and beautiful fence. The house has an extraordinary Palapa (thatched) roof that covers the top floor, which is the master bedroom if renting the entire house. The entire house is completely renovated as of 2008... with all walls, floors, bathrooms, kitchen and appliances new.
The first floor has two bedrooms, one and a half baths, living room, kitchen and outdoor dining and living. There is a full patio off of this floor with a tropical garden leading to a separate palapa near the sea. The sleeping porch provides additional outdoor living with built in sofas and a table and chairs. The Queen size guest room has a separate entrance to the sleeping porch with a beautiful garden view. There is a powder room on that porch as well.
The garden path takes you through a variety of tropical plantings, The garden is mature with a wall of bright pink bougainvillea and many other tropical blooms including ivy and a very old hibiscus that reaches to the second floor balcony. In the garden is the second palapa which houses another built in sofa and offers a place to relax and watch the fisherman bring in their boats at sunset. There is a hammock and two hanging hammock chairs.
The second floor is one huge room with a king size bed, computer desk, bath with shower and kitchen. Two of the four walls have wooden shutters providing a spectacular view of the sea. The palapa is stunning and the experience of sleeping there is unforgettable. The sound of the sea is like music. There is a patio off of this floor with a beautiful view of the ocean and the garden.....grand palms provide privacy and frame the sunset each evening. The bathroom features a vessel sink and beautiful tile work with a large shower. Just off the master bedroom is a utility area with a new washer and dryer.
Both floors are newly decorated with cohesive tile work. More than 34 different two inch tiles create beautiful countertops in all of the bathrooms and both kitchens, All bathrooms have vessel sinks and all linens are new and bought for the property.
La Mamzanillo is an active fishing peublo. It is about 40 minutes north of Manzanillo International Airport (ZLO) and about 3.5 hours south of Puerto Vallarta International Airport (PVR). There are many more fights into Puerto Vallarta, but I perfer ZLO if possible. Taxis are reasonable: about $40US from ZLO and about $125US from PVR.
La Manz guests fly into both.

Why the Owner Chose La Manzanilla
After watching La Manzanilla for seven years via the internet, we made our first visit in February 2008. It was everything we dreamed it would be with a bay that wraps around you like a tropical blanket and a feeling that you were stepping back in time. By May of that year, we bought the beach house and began an extensive renovation. La Manzanilla is less known but equally beautiful to many of Mexicos more famous destinations. This appealed to us. La Manzanilla is a small, friendly Pueblo that is only forty minutes from the Manzanillo (ZLO) airport. For us, it is interesting, comfortable and provides the best of nature...not commercial but very accessible. With Puerta Vallarta about 3 hours, La Manzanilla provides a unique and refreshing combination of the more rural and the more populated Mexico.
The Unique Benefits at this House
Our beach home is unique in that it sits just next to a small park with a river meeting at the corner of our property and runs directly into the sea. We watch as the water flow changes by the hour creating new pathways as the two waters mingle. The sunsets are amazing throughout the year with the beach lined with old fishing boats. It is wonderful to watch them roll the boats onto the sand at night using poles and muscle. La Manzanilla is an ecological site in Mexico with a concentrated effort to maintain the Mangroves. Just to the North of town, you can walk right up to the fence where very old and huge crocodiles live. People are there watching everyday and have been for years. There are four or five quality restaurants and many good local eateries and taco stands in town. A great breakfast is served at a small cafe just outside our front door. I think their muffins were a driving force in terms of choosing our house. The people are lovely and you always feel welcome. Children run free in the streets and you feel welcome there. This year (2009), the main streets of the Pueblo were bricked which is wonderful in the rainy season.....Each Friday, you only have to step outside our front door into the Jardin (the town square) to attend the weekly market which offers silver, textiles and pottery made by regional artisans.
Owner's Map of La Manzanilla
Mexico captured our hearts more than 25 years ago. We were drawn by the people, the beauty, the weather and the extraordinary culture. Everyday something special is being celebrated with great excitement, style and deep historical roots. In July of 2008, we moved to Mexico full time and now live between two places. Our primary home is in Central Mexico in the ancient Colonial city of San Miguel de Allende. Located in the state of Gunanjuato, San Miguel recently qualified and was named a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. A retired Radiological Physicist and an Artist, we spend the remainder of our time in La Manzanilla, a unique Pueblo by the sea that allows us to step back in time but is only forty minutes from an international airport. With our family, and four grandchildren, living in the United States, we travel frequently between the two countries. When we are not in residence, we rent the beach property and less frequently the San Miguel home.

FROM E-MAIL TO OWNER: Thank you. Thank you very, very much. Your house is incredible and wonderful. We had a great time there. Our children loved the house and enjoyed the sea. They were like a dolphin and a mermaid. (May visit, 2009.)

Homeowner Response:
Thank you for kind comments. You were actually there in February 2009 not 2008. I can't change your comments; I can only add comments of my own. Thanks again. Owner, D.S.G.
