Spacious and comfortable

Enjoyed a lovely weekend with my family there (19mo daughter and my husband). Enough room for my daughter to run around and play and for us all to relax. Nice to have a full kitchen and two separate sleeping quarters. Easily accessible to local towns.

PERFECT ACCOMODATIONS

Guest: Martha (Pensacola FL)
Date of Stay: 09/27/11 Review Submitted: 10/02/11

My husband and I stayed for three nights in this apartment. We were doing some geneological research, and needed a central location to several small towns in Mass, Vt, and NY. This was a perfect spot!! The apartment was really lovely, beautifully decorated and well equipped. The unit was clean, and well maintained. It is way too convenient (haha) to the owners' hot dog and ice cream stand, and next to their really great crafts store. It is an easy commute into Bennington, and to points beyond. Thank you, Pat and Gabe. We had a great time!!

Owner response:Thanks! Everyone seems to have their special attraction whether it's the hot tub, the pool, slow-churned ice cream, and now our Vermonster Dogs are a huge hit! Guests frequently comment that they were concerned that a rental adjacent to retail wouldn't be private, quiet or have enjoyable outdoor spaces, and were pleasantly surprised to find all three.

Base for Hikes on the Appalachian Trail

Guest: AT Hiker (Chapel Hill, NC)
Date of Stay: 08/20/11 Review Submitted: 01/03/12

We stayed in the apartment for a week, and used it as a base for taking day hikes on the Appalachian Trail (AT) through southern Vermont into northern Massachusetts. The apartment was well located for access to AT trailheads in this area. We found the apartment to be clean and well equipped. Pat and Gabe were friendly and made sure that all went well. We enjoyed our stay.

Great Stay & the best ice-cream in Vermont

Guest: O (Dubai, United Arab Emirates)
Date of Stay: 07/26/11 Review Submitted: 09/03/11

Our stay was absolutely amazing. The cottage was clean, comfortable and almost as good as home. The kitchen even had some basic food items, such as salt pepper and oil. The owners of the property where also great hosts and their shops had a amazing array of art work and even the best ice-cream in Vermont.

Owner response:It's so much easier to keep the premises looking good when guests like you folks leave it in immaculate condition. I really appreciated that!

Groovy

Guest: Kenneth K. (Metuchen, NJ USA)

The hosts (plus a sweet dog) were awesome which is enough to recommend it! But the apartment had more than ample space for 4 with a big bathroom and kitchen. It's a quick drive down to Williamstown and the rest the area has to offer.

Relax, Sight-see & Simply Enjoy Vermont

Guest: cole j.
Date of Stay: 07/02/11 Review Submitted: 07/24/11

Every year we pick a new state to visit and this year we chose Vermont. It is a beautiful state with picturesque views and wonderful friendly people like owners, Pat and Gabe. The home is centrally located as described. We were able to visit MA and VT on this trip! There is a wealth of things to do for those who like history, art or nature. All activities are within 5 - 10 miles. Pat has a brochure in her shop that shows all of the local attractions. Pictures shown in the listing are accurate. The kitchen is larg and very easy to work in. The living area is perfect for 4 - 6 people. And, just as described, all of the beds including the sleeper sofa are very comfortable. The home was very clean. We loved swimming in the pool every day and eating the locally made ice cream every night. Gabe gave us great advice for places to eat and we were never disappointed. The bakeries in Bennington are wonderful. If you go to the Crazy Russian Girls bakery, you have to try their apricot oatmeal bread. It is delicious and filling. If we ever make our way back to Vermont, we would stay here again. Thank you for a wonderful relaxing week.

Owner response:Guess I'm going to have to find out how to get a fifth star out of these guests! Just kidding! They joined most of our visitors this year who have found the pool especially delicious. Think that new solar cover really helps keep the water warm over night when the solar heater isn't running!

Favorite in Vermont

Guest: Debra Jo J.
Date of Stay: 06/26/11 Review Submitted: 12/30/11

We have stayed a few times with Pat and Gabe. They are a very friendly, and welcoming couple. The property is exactly as described. It is actually even nicer than the pictures show. We have been there both in the Summer, as well as in the Autumn. The surroundings were stunning both times. The apartment is well-appointed, and quite comfortable. The large farm table is perfect for a small dinner with friends. I love that they allow dogs. If we needed anything, we simply asked and Pat and Gabe were happy to assist. Don't miss this wonderful retreat, just a stone's throw from Williams College. Debra Jo Jackson

Excellent Rental for Williams Reunion Weekend

Guest: Gus (Monterey, CA)
Date of Stay: 06/09/11 Review Submitted: 06/14/11

Just stayed at Pat's vacation rental. Excellent choice. The folks are very nice. The guest unit has wifi. The guest unit is below an art studio and shop off of Route 7 in Pownal. I was worried about road noise but is was not an issue inside. The guest unit is clean, well appointed, and spacious. Officially it is a one bedroom but I'd call it a two bedroom (there are two beds) with room to expand with a pull out couch and floor space for an aerobed. The place is 6 miles from Williamstown - drive a little - save a lot. Will come again.

Owner response:Road noise is sometimes a concern but it's never a problem even when guests are outdoors grilling in the courtyard or relaxing by the pool. We actually had the fence erected at an angle with noise abatement in mind. Thanks for the great remarks!

Great stay for graduation in Williamstown

Guest: greyfox (california)

Large comfortable clean apartment less than 10 minutes to Williamstown. Write up and pics were accurate and friendly owners made us feel right at home. Too bad we did not have more time to chat with Pat and her husband as we were busy with graduation at Williams college to the south. This property is way better than the similarly priced motels nearby .

Owner response:And too bad you never had time for a swim!

VT respite

Guest: bikeracers (CT)
Date of Stay: 04/08/11 Review Submitted: 05/11/11

My boyfriend, Labrador and I had a fabulous weekend at this VT respite. We were in the area for the Battenkill race weekend and loved the roomy accommodations, peaceful setting, and home-away-from-home features of this rental. The owners had gourmet restaurant recommendations which fit our NYC organic tastes and the house met our every need. Fully recommend and would stay here next time we're local.

Columbus Day Weekend!!

Guest: Alan (United States)
Date of Stay: 10/08/10 Review Submitted: 05/20/11

First time at this location in Vermont. A very lucky find as it was a last minute Columbus Day weekend trip for us. The apartment was quiet, very roomy, warm and cozy and user friendly. We really enjoyed relaxing at the end of the day, watching the sun go down and playing with the resident pooch. Owners were very friendly and helpful with information during our visit. Would go back without hesitation!!!

Delightful College Reunion Stay

Guest: Bennington College Alumn (United States)
Date of Stay: 10/02/10 Review Submitted: 05/11/11

My college friends and I came back to Bennington for our 20 year reunion. We wanted to stay out of the hustle and bustle of Bennington but still close enough to get into town and to the college quickly. I ran across Pat's listing on Craigslist and loved the look of her place. We stayed for 2 nights in October and had a terrific time. The place is clean and cozy and well appointed and the Kane's are terrific hosts. They made sure we had everything we needed for our stay.

Our best vacations in Vermont

Guest: Javier (Madrid, Spain)
Date of Stay: 08/12/10 Review Submitted: 05/11/11

We are a group of six young people from Spain, which decided to spent vacations in the US in summer'2010. We chose Pat's home between many options, and it was just what we needed! Everything was great, the place is very nice, the home is great, but the perfect thing was using the swimming pool at the end of the day, while preparing a BBQ! It's like being at your own home, we would definitely come back again if we return Vermont.

As comfortable as a luxury hotel...

Guest: amie (Woodside, NY)
Date of Stay: 07/09/10 Review Submitted: 07/24/10

This rental was fantastic. We are a young family of four and this place was perfect for us. The high point would have to be the kitchen as it was so easy to prepare meals and entertain. Near Mt. Greylock for hiking, lots of fishing holes near by and close to the cultural scene of Williams College. I was also impressed with the high quality bedding and bathroom facilities. As comfortable as a luxury hotel. The pool is just gravy.

Didn't even have to leave!

Guest: Domestic Diva (Baltimore MD)
Date of Stay: 06/20/10 Review Submitted: 07/15/10

We expected to use this place for sleeping and an occasional meal but we spent whole days of our vacation in the pool, playing in the huge yard, and having BBQs in the private courtyard. The buildings are arranged in such a way that you're totally unaware there is anything or anyone else on the property. It was all about peace and comfort. Perfect place for family with dog and / or kids.

Very easy to get to and centrally located. This private rental was very spacious, including full size kitchen with full amenities Very Quiet, we never got a phone call or knock on door, enjoyed two large cozy bed rooms, large contemporary bathroom, and outdoor hot tub. Large tv, all cable channels. We stayed in and cooked our own meals, however, there are very nice restaurants and nightlife close by. You wont find a nicer place for the money and it fits to all seasons, even though we could't enjoy the pool in early January :). Book it now, very nice host...

Peaceful and Relaxing Setting

Guest: Cokey (Western New York State)
Date of Stay: 06/26/09 Review Submitted: 07/02/09

Well, I'm not 55+, rather 25+, and we loved our long weekend at this rental. The apartment and grounds were exactly as described and, in fact, seem larger than the photos suggest. The yard is huge so we didn't even have to leave the property to walk our dog. Due to lack of sun I guess (for solar heating) the pool was a tad chilly but still better than an unheated one. The location is perfect for hitting Mass MOCA, The Clarke, and the Bennington Museums and art galleries. In fact the apartment is in a barn complex that contains a gallery of American craft and jewelry as well as the owner's photo studio. The bad news is it also contains a scoop shop and the ice cream is irresistible.

Owner response:I know! I feel the same way about the pool but now we've had several days of pure, gorgeous SUN, and everyone is thrilled!

not exactaly as it seams.

Date of Stay: 04/27/09 Review Submitted: 05/22/09

The apt was very nice but the amenities listed when we rented were not as clear as they are now. Its good to see they have reworded their listing. When we rented it said heated pool and hot tub, the pool was not ready( i know we rented in the spring so pools arent usaly ready yet but when its said to be heated it leads one to beleve its ready) and the hot tub is on the owner porch, so to use it you have to go into their personal space. Because the owners live above the rental you have to be quiet. We had a number of guest over after our wedding (which they know thats why we were their, to be married) and disturbed them. we had a bit of a conflect on our last night. we understood the noise factor when they aproched us, they just did it in a childish way. we moved our guest outside to the fire pit. they slept and we got to enjoy our company. they should enclude a no guest after 10 policy so this dosent happen again. Over all it was a good rental. I recomend this property for older tourst, not people visiting their home town and looking to see old friends.

Owner response:Oh, we're guilty as charged! We don't open our pool in April - who could afford to! Our hot tub is on our balcony but the reason we ask tenants to use it by appointment is so we won't be around when they do. This bridal couple left their 3-year-old daughter alone asleep in the apartment while using the hot tub. Guess I'm just old-fashioned! And, yes, although we don't allow parties - what rental does - we overlooked the 14 people our 6 tenants brought home after their wedding reception since it was their wedding day. However, by 11:00 PM we wanted to go to bed and the noise was just more than we could bare. We have a can / bottle return here in Vermont, and we netted $15 for returning these folks' beer cans. At $ .05 per can, you do the math! If you want to come to Vermont to party, please go somewhere else. Otherwise, we have a beautiful apartment in a really convenient location!
