This lovely hillside property perches above the waters of Johnstone Strait. From one side of the 93 foot glassed balcony, you look over the totems in the historic village of Alert Bay. From the other you look across the waters of the Strait to the snow capped mountains of Vancouver Island. This quiet and well appointed adult home is an ideal retreat for writers or artists, as it comes with both a den/library and art studio.
Perfect too for the amateur pilot who can take advantage of the well maintained airstrip on this tiny island. The eagles soar over your head here and the orcas swim past the deck. The only thing you hear is the motor of the occasional passing cruise ship. Hike the old growth forest trails, enjoy the sea kayaking, unparalleled sport fishing. Learn about the culture of the 'Namgis First Nation at the unique U'Mista Cultural Centre.
This home is completely equipped and ideal for a longer stay.

We just stayed here for 10 days and had a perfect stay! The house, location and view are so much more than the pictures can convey. The owner anticipated our every need and it felt like we were her own personal house guests. The house was in great shape - clean, well maintained, fully equipped plus it is full of interesting artwork and has a great library - no need to bring your own books to read. We were given a notebook with all the information we needed - people in the community to contact for questions about the house, the area, whale watching and other local amenities and activities. If you know about Alert Bay already, look no further - this is the house you will want. If you are wondering if you want to stay in Alert Bay - you should seriously consider it. It was our first visit and we found it to be charming and friendly with ample things to do - a visit to the U'mista Cultural Museum is a must, stroll along the boardwalk and visit the shops, walk along the extensive trail system through old growth trees and a lengthy shore littered with driftwood, river rocks and tidal pools. The ferry allows you to travel to Malcolm Island and the village of Sointula for free. Mostly, we cooked our own meals and enjoyed the view from the deck - a constant stream of ravens, eagles and seagulls, interesting water craft, tidal currents and low fog that burned off by midmorning each day. We did not see whales from the deck, but we saw them elsewhere many times. Everyone says it is just a matter of time until we would have seen them from the deck. Two unexpected treats - the bed in the master bedroom is the most comfortable bed I have even slept in and the tap water is delicious! I brought a full carton back with me!Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+.

About the owner: This home was bought 10 years ago while I was working as the physician for the Namgis First Nation here in Alert Bay. Its many visitors have often commented that the vista from almost every room is unique and spectacular. While work has taken me east for the time being, I love the opportunity to come back to my real 'home'. My new husband Francois loves it here as much as I do. We try to come back as often as possible and enjoy the opportunity of sharing it with others when we are not here.
Why the Owner Chose Alert Bay:
The view speaks for itself!
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Alert Bay is the home of traditional native carvers. There are many totem poles still standing in the traditional burial grounds. During summer months there are performances of traditional native dance and song in the Big House. In addition there are many opportunities to enjoy tips to nearby ancient island villages.
