Spring Break in La Jolla

Guest: lp (Palos Verdes, CA, USA)
Date of Stay: 04/09/12 Review Submitted: 04/23/12

A well-situated vintage, cottage styled home with a contained courtyard that was perfect for my two dogs. Easy walking access to a small, grassy park and La Jolla's shops and restaurants. On a busy street that was a bit noisy during the waking hours but quiet during sleeping hours. The kitchen and baths were clean and well outfitted. The owner checked in with us by phone on our arrival day to be sure everything was fine and asked if we had any questions. The cottage was heavily furnished and maybe a little quainter than I expected, but all in all, everything I required for my stay was there and in good order.

La Jolla Classic Cottage

Marvelous setting. Great walking location (village, cove, museum, multiple restaurants). Although the property backed on to a major thoroughfare - we never knew it as we were well insulated by the yard and lay-out. The house was wonderfully appointed and decorated - although some of the gorgeous curtains were on their last legs. A window cover in the back bathroom and a shower curtain to keep the toilet area dry in the main bathroom would be helpful. Aside from these items - every room was a visual treat. There were wonderful books in abundance, and numerous fine nooks & crannies to read them in. This home also has a lovely central courtyard with blooming plants, trees and orchids. The surrounding neighborhood was quiet and welcoming.

Classic Cottage Close to Everything in the Village of La Jolla

Guest: I Luv My Cab (Moraga, CA)
Date of Stay: 01/08/12 Review Submitted: 03/12/12

My husband, our 2 German Shepherd Dogs, and I spent two months at Anna's cottage. The cottage is vintage La Jolla with lots of antiques and classic charm. The cottage is very accommodating for dogs with sheets to cover the furniture and a nice courtyard area for them to relieve themselves. The cottage is very convenient to the cove and all the shops and restaurants on Prospect Street and very near a small park to walk and exercise the dogs. As can be expected with older homes, we had a couple of minor issues and Anna addressed these very promptly. The cottage backs up to a very busy street and it is somewhat noisy in the courtyard but it remains quiet inside the house when the doors and windows are closed. We thought this cottage was a very good value and Anna was a pleasure to deal with. We will try to rent this house again when we are in La Jolla. This cottage is ideal for dog owners and families who enjoy walking to all the local attractions.

A Charming, Peaceful and Homey Place To Get Away or Entertain

Guest: Charlene (Agoura)
Date of Stay: 08/04/11 Review Submitted: 09/17/11

We rented the house for a week when our son was getting married and it was absolutely perfect. The calm and peaceful setting was just right for us before the wedding, the warmth and homey feel was so great when friends and family were stopping to visit and the house and charming outside patio easily accommodated our guests. And the convenience of being able to walk into the village each evening was so great. The owner was very helpful and a pleasure to work with. We can't thank her enough for sharing her slice of heaven with us.

Lovely home in great location

We loved our stay at this cottage in La Jolla. The home itself was beautifully decorated, spacious, and well laid-out. My husband, my two young children, and I had plenty of room to play and relax. The courtyard was our favorite place to eat, read, and nap. Downtown La Jolla and the ocean is an easy walk down the hill. Can't ask for anything more!

Perfection for our Family Celebration!

Guest: Len & Nancy (Chicago, Illinois)
Date of Stay: 06/07/11 Review Submitted: 06/14/11

This house was absolutely perfect for our family vacation. Pictures on the web page truly do not depict the beauty of this home, its furnishings and excellent amenties. Our 22 month old granddaughter was able to play to her hearts content in the wonderful courtyard. It is truly a "home away from home"! No need for a car; all restaurants, grocery stores and La Jolla Cove are within walking distance. The owner was just a pleasure to work with and our only regret is that we did not get to meet her in person. So just bring your toothbrush, sit back and enjoy!

Moved out after one night

Guest: Cindy (Santa Fe, NM)
Date of Stay: 04/15/11 Review Submitted: 05/01/11

Unfortunately photos do not communicate the smell of cat urine and mold in this house. We had paid for 6 weeks and moved out after one night. We made a big mistake by not buying the VRBO insurance. The owner has refused to refund our money. What was described as charming and elegant is in reality old and moldy. The furnace is ancient, is over the bedroom and sounds like a train coming through the house. After driving two days to La Jolla, you can only imagine how bad it was for us to leave after one night. What a complete misrepresentation!

Owner response:I am responding to this vindictive review... After spending less than a single day at my home, this couple created a laundry list of accusations of my property. I took the immediate action to investigate each of their concerns by hiring individual specialists to evaluate all. In the interim, this couple specifically demanded that I not rent the home for the follwoing 2 weeks, I still do not understand why they tied my home up for this period of time. That being said, I did everything within my powere to place them in a new rental, one whic was oceanfront and at a substantial discount which I personally negotiated for them. After all reports were returned, not one of their allegations had merit of any kind whatsoever. Still, I voluntarily refunded all monies collected from rentals received during their contracted time period. Furthermore, when I contacted VRBO over this liabelous review, VrbO's response verbatim was " We do not edit, modify, or alter the content or investigate the accuracy of any review posted by a traveler" Needless to say this has been a stressful situation. For anyone who may have further concerns, please read the other reviews in detail. I value and respect the ongoing relationships I have had with my new and return renters for many years, I sincerely work hard to continue to enhance the travelers experience.

Your home is truly one of the most elegant places we have ever dreamed of in the United States... everything from the lovely amenities, to the sophisticated decor was truly magical. I can still smell lilacs in the air! Thanks again for the wonderful accomodations.

Best rental in La Jolla: elegance meets comfort and space at the right price

Guest: alex74 (paris, france)
Date of Stay: 11/15/10 Review Submitted: 01/29/11

this house is absolutely beautiful and the pictures you will find on the web page do not reflect how great it really is ! first of all, it is really big and very comfortable. the kitchen is fully equipped with probably more stuff than you will ever need. the bathroom is awesome and the shower rocks ! big living room with 2 comfy couches and a beautiful fireplace that works ! the 2 bedrooms come with super comfy beds and lots of places to store your clothes. classy dining room and a nice patio where you can barbecue and eat your lunch in the sun. The owner is super friendly and very accommodating (we changed our departure date couple times). seriously this rental is worth every penny. I forgot to add that the owner is an interior designer and well the house is very elegant ! so you know, we visited 10 other rentals in La Jolla and applied for about 30 rentals all together and this house came as the best of all (not the cheapest but for sure the best deal for what you get).

La Jolla Vacation

Guest: But it's a dry heat! (Tucson, AZ)
Date of Stay: 08/22/10 Review Submitted: 09/05/10

We thoroughly enjoyed out week at the house. It was clean and tidy. The walled garden was ideal for sitting and eating outside. We were able to walk to the beach and village each day. We were especially pleased that the property accommodated our elderly German Shepherd. We have already recommended this property to friends living in our Tucson community.

La Jolla - Walking delight!

Guest: Chris (Eagle, Idaho)
Date of Stay: 07/28/10 Review Submitted: 08/04/10

The cottage layout and furnishings suited our needs perfectly. The courtyard was my preferred location for reading and relaxing, with cushioned sofa and chairs. Having both a living room and a TV/sunroom afforded us with some separation from one another - always a plus. We walked to lunch, dinner, La Jolla Cove, and the Museum of Contemporary Art. It was a quick hop onto the freeway to spend time in Coronado and Point Loma. Thanks for sharing this property with us.

We enjoyed our stay in Anna's home - location is excellent - walk to shops and restaurants. The cottage is well decorated and it was a treat to have such comfortable beds in a rental. All in all it was a wonderful stay.

Eclectic charming decor in a convenient location close to restaurants, shops and ocean walks. Beds were comfortable and the kitchen well stocked. The house was a quiet place to relax although a sweet courtyard garden was a little noisy from La Jolla Parkway.

Home away from home

Guest: Ruth (London, England)
Date of Stay: 01/08/10 Review Submitted: 02/25/11

We spent more than a month here from mid-Jan to mid-Feb 2011 and loved it. The house is beautifully decorated with lovely antiques and very comfortable. It was built in 1924 and the kitchen may well be original (and the gas stove takes some practcie). If you'd lived here in 1939 you might have met Raymond Chandler who lived across the street in the Mittie Churcher House, The garden/patio is delightful, but can be noisy from the traffic on Torrey Pines Road. Location is great. We had some problems with phone and microwave and the owner had these replaced pronto. The photos do not do it justice. It would be helpful to add photos of the kitchen and second bathroom (off the kitchen, with shower in laundry room), so renters have a better idea of what to expect..We hope to return.
